Hey everyone I am new here... I am looking to purchase a Lectro SRA receiver and 2 UM400a's for a wireless hop to various cameras. I will be working in LA, Vegas and Salt Lake city primarily. I have been told that block 20 is probably the best for LA by the Lectro people. Problem is that the SRA's in blk 20 are backordered for 6-8 weeks and the UM's are a month out. I have a series starting up in the next few weeks soooo... On the other hand I have heard block 21 is looking pretty good as well, and are more readily available. Any thoughts on Block selection and where to buy? I would be open to used stuff as well. Happy Mixing... Heather

I was watching the FOX halftime show and just noticed that the lavs were not clipped on their jackets or ties, but it appears that they were hidden in the tie knots. Any idea why they would be doing that, rather than just clipping onto the tie like every other studio commentary segment? Marc

I know a lot of people who have the production company rent all the sound gear for the duration of a shoot. I also know lots of people that spend their own money to buy gear for their personal rig. With many of the rental houses competing against each other, prices are pretty low now days. To me, it makes more sense to rent than purchase. If I'm not going to get any more for my owned gear, why wouldn't I just rent all the time?

A production accountant friend of mine needs the above elements transferred to CD. It's old music recordings to preserve for a friend of hers, so raw wav would be an appropriate place to start. I no longer have a reel-to-reel capable of dealing with 1/2" tape. Hoped someone here could give me an estimate to do the transfer. Once in the digital domain, I can do the burn to CD. This favor may get me a spot to park close to the stage, so...I'm going to foot the bill Best, Jan

Hello all, I am a longtime lurker here and found this information on another sound bard that I thought would be interesting. Tomorrow Verizon is expected to announce their plans for the rollout of their LTE 4G network. For those of you waiting for the onset of 700MHz spectrum use by the new "owners", this is it. More here. lol, have to load out in 4 days. On the right is the old black wooden cart. The only thing holding it together is the black felt. On the left is the initial attempt at a replacement. It's very cool, very well built and very heavy. Too heavy for me. Center stage is Cart Version 2.01. It's made of a sandwich of plastic, 1/4" birch and aluminum. Weighed 40 lbs before I started tricking it out (interchangeable wheels and casters, speed rail flanges for carrying, aluminum drawer etc....) Back to work... Billy

We have all seen the multitude of apps out there on the iphone and ipad that are targeted at the film industry (countless slate apps, viewfinders etc) but I'm wondering what apps people are actually using to do their job. Cheers all Michael

Would anyone be willing to share an example of their deal memo or contract? I'm curious what the typical format might look like. Dylan

Wolf sent me a link to these rack case/carts from Bigfoot. Could be an alternative basis for case-type cart. I couldn't really find one representative image to post here so you'll just have to look at their site if it interests you. BigFoot

1 year and 1 month Posted by: "monochrome_88" monochrome_88@yahoo.com monochrome_88 Mon Jan 3, 2011 4:35 pm (PST) that is how long the production house took to pay me my last 50% for a 2 day gig. The thought of it is enough to put off any new comer into this industry. i find it rather amusing when the accounts/boss didn't even say sorry for that delay. Her reaction is like " well, when you got to wait, you better wait." ..... just riposting from the video assist group ( I know nothing!)

I have an issue with a mic, wondering if you guys know the deal with it. The mic is a Lectro SMQV, it is the two AA silver and blue model. I am in a small town in bumfuck Afghanistan... so I am asking around last minute... The following is the description of the problem. Hope all is well. Scott Here is the situation. I went to change batteries on a mic, put good ones in, would not turn on. It is just flashing "ON...1" for a split second, then "rf OFF" for a split second, then blank. Nothing seems to be working to get it to power up. Yes, I tried a second set of batts. If I hold the audio button, I can get it to go into a screen that says: "rf OFF" or if I…

Here's a mystery. When I watch movies at home I have to crank the volume on my tv because dialog just doesn't seem to have that cutting edge. I figured it was my tv. But yesterday I was watching a dvd of a film I mixed, 'Love Ranch'. I wasn't happy with what I was hearing. Part of it was that they looped lots of dialog because of major script changes, but overall the sound seemed pretty dead. Then I watched the extras. There were around 10 deleted scenes included on the dvd. The sound on these scenes was straight from dailies and it was crystal clear. So what gives? Is there some release standard that's cutting out the high end? Or are they just processing the …

First of all, happy holidays everyone! And now to the point. As some of you know, I am not a highly experienced mixer as most of you here (also read the disclaimer as "I do not own top-of-the-line gear"), but I think this is the proper place to "confess" my disappointment, and hopefully get a few comments/tips to prevent the awful results that occurred during a recent gig. We shot at an amusement park, meaning monstrous metal structures combined with massive electrical equipment all around. One of the rides launched the carts using multiple linear magnetic induction motors, and all I had for wireless systems were my Sennheiser G2's (you know where thi…

Hello everyone, a local shooter has mentioned that he would like hire me for some sound gigs this coming year with some nascar shoots. I've been to plenty of races while growing up in the south so i'm well knowledgeable in what to expect as far as loudness/crowd/atmosphere but as far as doing sound, whats usually asked for expected? i'm guessing high noise headphones, a stick mic with xlr plug-on wireless, boom with shotgun(i've got an mkh60 so i'm sure -10db pad will help), probably 2 wireless kits and going direct to camera? any other pointers or help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
