Every Magnum Dolly (the old blue ones) I see on set makes these aweful relay clicks after every vertical movement, right on top of the dialogue. And they seem to be the cheapest in rental so they are everywhere. Frustrating.

Hi All, I've been following the J.W. discussions regarding the changing legal wireless frequencies in the US. Prior to acquiring new gear, I thought it would be prudent to see what the latest and projected frequency situation is in Canada (Ontario). Is Canada tending to follow the US with respect to the reassignment of frequencies? What frequencies are "safest" at this time? I've Googled but have come up with little info. Thanks kindly for any knowledge you care to share. Have a great evening. Cheers, Dave

All, I stood up for myself today, something I think we all need to do from time to time. Today is the 60th day after I submitted my invoice to a DVD bonus features company I have worked for several times in 2008. 2009 looked like it would be a busy year with these guys too, but then we got this email: "So sorry about this. We do have your invoice in our payables system but are unable to pay it right now. As you are aware, the economy and the general state of the entertainment industry have caused the studios to slow down payment to us for the work we provided to them. This has caused us to sow down payments to our vendors like yourself. I wish I could tell you …

Not really sound related, but I thought this was fun and worth sharing (makes me want to start mounting antennae on my headphones, functional or otherwise):

[tt]Twenty Economic Models Explained SOCIALISM You have 2 cows. You give one to your neighbour. COMMUNISM You have 2 cows. The State takes both and gives you some milk. FASCISM You have 2 cows. Me and my son (21 yrs old) caught the 70mm Special Roadshow showing of Quentin Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight" last night. It was beautiful work. And Tarantino bloody of course. After the 3+ hr screening we were talking this may be the only time to have this type of film experience (Program book and intermission and no trailers) in his lifetime (hopefully not). Made it even better when I read Mark Ulano say they did no ADR! Again thanks for repping the Sound Guy Mark, in the best way!!!

Could I ask my JW peeps to send me pictures of blank Daily Time Sheets? I have built into Timecard Buddy a Daily Times export mode (because, let's face it, daily time sheets are a pain), but I need to know what productions are looking for so that they will be sure to accept it. Very much thank you! newendian@gmail.com

I was wondering if someone with greater knowledge on this topic could fill me in on what this new standard means for us going forward. I was reading the new guidelines and transition paperwork from the FCC and ran across this section that caught my eye. It is talking about the adoption of the new ETSI emission mask standards and that Lectrosonics was concerned about adopting these new masking standards because it "would require a change in design that could render its legacy models incapable of operation with newer models." It's on page 14-15 of the FCC 15-100 document. I'll try and attach it. I was hoping for some clarification from Lectrosonics on what legac…

A friend of mine interested in maritime affairs has sent me this link https://gcaptain.com/safety-concerns-for-hybrid-electric-ships/ When I was working, I powered my equipment off Lithium Ion batteries and even then (over ten years ago) there were severe restrictions on taking such batteries on aircraft. Do recordists still use Li Ion batteries for location recording - and have there been any nasty incidents using them?

Scott Farr posted a news item about the sale of Wexler Video. As you all probably know, I have no connection with Wexler Video, or its founder, Bob Wexler, but I have watched the company grow exponentially over the years. Does anyone know any of the details of this purchase? I really only have an interest because of an interest in companies that grow, are sold off to larger companies, and so forth. Regards, Jeff Wexler

Hello Everybody, Anyone with experience shooting in India? Will be possibly doing a job there in the city of Hyderabad and I'm trying to find info on wireless mics frequencies but it feels like there is nothing out there. The rumors are that there isnt much regulation there but any insights from anyone that has shot there would be very appreciated. Thanks Nikos

I am doing a movie in a couple of months and with a good chunk taking place on a "stage" that is much more like a warehouse with some flats in it. During the "how is sound" discussion with the director and producer I pitched the usual fury-pads, carpets, curtains. I also, not thinking it would go anywhere, pitched that we could bring the booms in frame on the wides and have VFX paint them out and to my surprise production called VFX and he said "we are able to do that." I have never had the pleasure of doing this on a longer narrative production (done it a couple of times on commercials and with green screens) and wanted to hear from some people who about the…
