This is fiction, of course, but this exchange (so skillfully written but I don’t by whom) is probably not too far off the truth. Here is how Matt Loeb and Nick Counter negotiate: Counter: Loeb, get in here. Stop yakking with that (chuckle) Bargaining Unit. Loeb: Yes sir. Right away sir. Counter: Close the door, Loeb. Loeb: Yes sir. Counter: Loeb, you failed us. Loeb: Yes sir, I'm sorry sir. If I could just... Counter: Shut up, Loeb. We let Short retire because he said you could take care of business. Loeb: I'm sorry sir. Counter: SORRY? Get this, guys. Loeb is SORRY. (Jeers from the assembled lawyers in the room, sitting in bleachers, in dark…

I've been working on a show with quite a few scenes taking place at a horse ranch. We've had a good number of "ride and talks" with actors riding horses and delivering dialogue. But the saddles are creating quite a bit of noise. Sort of a leather rubbing noise. I know some of you have worked on western's. Was this ever an issue for you ? if so, what was the solution ? Thanks

I just watched the pilot to Alphas on Hulu. Never before have I heard the following in such abundance on a TV show: -Using an actors audio when he was off mic. -Music mixed a LOT louder than dialogue. I had to keep changing the volume on my computer not to kill my ears when the music came on, and to hear things when people were talking. -Dialogue and walla mixed at the same level. -Ambience shifts when they cut between two actors. It's very noticeable even on crappy speakers. -Shots (typically OTS of the other character's coverage) where Character was speaking but his lips were clearly not moving. (That is most definitely NOT the fault of the production mixe…

On the advice of a friend, I began watching "Money Heist." As he mentioned the ADR is pretty amazing. If you're not looking for it, you can go a ways without noticing. Was there a special approach to achieving this effect?

OK, so it's little off topic, but it does involve sound. When I'm not working or spending time with my family, I'm usually riding or wishing I was riding my mountain bike. I saw this video about Easton, who make high end wheels for mountain and road bikes. You can see how the technicians listen to the sound of the spokes to tell when it's true. Almost like tuning guitar strings. And by the way, you will notice they are using a Behringer mixer to listen to the sound....maybe I'll go double check my wheels ! LOL. http://www.thefutureschannel.com/dockets/realworld/building_testing_bike_wheels/

Hello fellow sound people I have been a member of this forum for quite some time now and by far it's always been a major source for vital real world information about our craft. I've been a mixer and a boom op for 9 years now. My passion is feature films so I've mostly worked on indie features and got extensive experience as a mixer, boom op and a third with decent gear on my cart. Long story short, I joined Local 52, got a chance to mix 2 features and day play as boom and third on episodic TV. I would like to meet new sound mixers in New York who are looking for a utility or boom operator. I understand how difficult it is to hire a stranger but it's certainly …

Posting for a friend. Trying to find some basic equipment for the IFA tradeshow in Berlin germany by tommorow (8/1/11). Basically they just need either a juicedlink/beachtek to run audio into a 5d with some decent handheld interview type mic. If no juiced link or beachtek then a zoom or other portable recorder for one mic input would be great. If you have anything like this please email Francesca.babet@iris-worldwide.com Thanks, Chase Yeremian

Just wanted to publicly thank Glenn Sanders for his impromptu phone call last night to explain where they are at with shipping Nomad internationally and to discuss my specific needs so I am better informed and ready to place the right order at the right time. Never before had such personalised and professional attention from the President of a corporation. Thanks again Glenn and I very much look forward to placing my order in the New Year Chris

In the UK at least, the dear, dead days of huge rates of overtime are long gone - how well I remember approaching 13T after a week of no 10 hour breaks (courtesy of the wonderful White Book ITN agreement in television during the 1980s). But the occasion which I recall most fondly was crafted by our brothers in the ETU (as it was then), the electricians. We were shooting in a disused railway goods station in Paris on Murder on the Orient Express and we were approaching wrap time having just about completed one angle of the scene. The production manager thought what a wizard wheeze it would be if the sparks stayed on, working into the evening, to re-light for the other angl…

It seems Lectrosonics has stopped making the MCA-Tpower cable, which allows using the 15V power selection to drive a 12T microphone (like a CMC4). Other than the fairly long 48P-12T barrel adapters and the Ambient Phantomizer cable ($176!?), does anyone have any other suggestions for how to make this happen? I already have Gary at Trew Atlanta building something smaller for me, but I was hoping to get that Lectro cable. I guess I haven’t been active here in so long I can’t post to the WTB forum, but if anyone has an MCA-Tpower cable for sale, I’d love to buy it. Thanks!

Would anyone like to comment on this? I've got a gig coming up in India... and I'm powering my bag with 130 watt-hour batteries. As I read the US Safe Travel Info Page on Lithium Batteries it looks like I should be fine with two 130 watt-hour bricks... one "installed" in the back of my Petrol... and the other one sitting next to it "loose" in that same compartment. The max brick size is 300 watt-hour... and on that site it says you can carry a brick up to 299 (I guess) and you could actually have two spares on top of that. So... I'm assuming I should be totally fine with my rig. In the past, I usually have a nice delay going through TSA as they look at that…

Ambrose Bierce Born June 24, 1842 What is a democrat? One who believes that the republicans have ruined the country. What is a republican? One who believes that the democrats would ruin the country.
