Marc, I just read your Vol 22 Issue #1 column in the Coffey Files today...awesome read, thanks for the detailed info. I had a question though... I usually run an Ambient 202CT clock-it on my RED shoots... jam in the morning from the 702T and leave the box on the camera all day. I just use Free Run however, since I have no physical connection with the camera just the clock and a wireless reference track. I didn't see you actually use the term "free run" and was curious with your thoughts on that vs. rec run and TOD?

Saw this on another list, if you weren't already aware: John McDaniel has been a long-term friendly and useful voice on the DAW-Mac list and is having to close his place down for the reasons stated in the article: http://206.130.110.197/wordpress/thank-you-for-22-fantastic-years/ But I also found this on their site, which made me laugh a lot. http://206.130.110.197/wordpress/production-favor-generator/ Regards, John

http://www.psypost.org/2016/09/researchers-find-evidence-hidden-hearing-loss-college-age-human-subjects-44892 I have definitely noticed this increase over time (difficulty picking out words in noisy rooms). Wonder if it's from blasting my headphones in noisy locations. (Probably.) Good to know it's being studied.

In general, I hate movies that span a lifetime because they make life seam like it is way too short to be summed up in a 2 hour movie. But, I have to give praise to this little short, on so many levels. http://vimeo.com/4626809 It sums it up in 47 seconds, and notice the beats.. Indicating of course how each progressive milestone seams like it's faster and faster. I've identified all the milestones, but a few, such as the dog, I don't get.. Also, it looks like it was filmed on a Canon SLR camera with a fish eye lens too. -Richard

Gotham Sound in NYC is hosting graciously hosting this event I've been trying to plan on November 9th. It's a flea market/swap meet type deal. Bring any gear you've been trying to sell or get rid of! Find some great deals on used gear from other mixers! If you're in the northeast US and can make it please RSVP. It's going to be a lot of fun. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/gotham-flea-tickets-75719738777

I think this is due to the large amount of new non-union work coming in now. http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/envelope/cotown/la-fi-ct-onlocation-20130410,0,1950025.story?track=rss&utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter&dlvrit=71043 -Richard

Today's reverie brought me back to my first feature film ('Made': mixer Rene Borisewitz), where I was responsible, among other things, for operating the rotary converter or hooking up the BNC Mitchell camera to three phase mains via a transformer and start box. The electricians showed me how to jam the bare ends on the three phase lead into the local fuse box, if there was one handy on location, and the thought of 440 volts kept my mind on the job! When there was no three phase supply available, the rotary was used, powered of two lorry batteries (24 volts). There was a mechanical frequency meter on it and when I heard 'turn over' from the First Assistant Director I woul…

I learned about this earlier this year and thought it might provide help for many of us: Section 199 - Domestic Production Activities Deduction What is the Section 199 deduction? If you produce goods, develop software or construct property in the U.S., regardless of whether they are exported, Congress has provided you the means to significantly reduce your tax bill. Created as the centerpiece of the American Jobs Creation Act, the new domestic production activities deduction is estimated to result in over $76 billion dollars of taxpayer savings over a ten-year period. How does the deduction work? The deduction is permanent in nature and is equal to a p…

Shout out to the sound team working on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Alot of thought clearly went into the immersive aspects of the dialogue capture, with good boom work and lavs that sound open. Never took me out of the moment. I find myself taken out of immersion alot lately with lav-heavy scenes in other shows, this one has an old-school feel (in all the good ways).

Hey guys, just watching the games and was talking to a camera op saying folks don't get paid anything worth while for working in these 3rd world countries. Have you guys heard anything? You'd think it would be union or something so you can be guaranteed something lol. Man! I don't think I'd go outside the states into a 3rd world country as a freelancer. What do you all know and think? Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk

For some years I have been archiving performances by singer songwriters here in Thunder Bay with the PDAudio system in 2496. I became aware of the limitations of the system and have 'upgraded' but I still want to capture 'live ambiance' and have a 'forgiving' system in live concert situations(mainly acoustic choral in churches). I now have the Soundfield SPS 200-sb computer controlled mics and the Sounddevices 788T-ssd (and am starting to record). But I do not have software for the Soundfield Surround software(I have been using Soundforge 10 for my stereo recordings). I have been able to listen both in the 788t and in Soundforge 10. But I want to do more. Any suggest…
