Hi all, I will recently start working on a TV series wich will be filmed at 4k 50fps. The question is, how could I send or receive time code at that frame rate in order to have all synced for the edit? The sound recorders I know can handle up to 30 fps TC if I'm not wrong... I would apreciate any kind of help in this matter. Regards

I'm going to catch some flak for this but it might raise some interest so here goes.... A mixer with an extensive resume of TV shows and run and gun documentaries goes to interview for a movie. Quote:"You have a lot of TV experience, but what movies have you done?" Answer: "You realize that TV is usually much more difficult than movies, we do typically between thirty and forty setups a day with multiple speaking parts all on wireless and don't have a large looping budget so a huge percentage of production dialogue is not only necessary but mandatory?" Quote: "But what movies have you done? Answer: "You know that my personal best is sixty seven setups i…

I am researching a two channel, wireless audio package, for a client. They are looking to use it on a no budget project / favor and have some experience with shooting, but very little with capturing audio. They realize they'd be better off hiring someone, but the people they will be filming are not willing to have additional crew in the room. Budget is $3,000 I am not very familiar with the prosumer and lower end stuff, having used all Lectrosonics and Sound Devices, for 15 years Recorder requirements are Small in footprint, records 2-4 channels, XLR inputs, best possible sound quality, blue tooth transmitter for monitoring or sending scratch track to came…

I have seen many TV Interviews, which the guests and moderator has two lav mics. I am wondering, why they need two mics? one reason in my opinion would be to have a continuity sound when the moderator turn their head to left or right, but I have also seen some situation, which two Lav Mics being placed almost in the same position, Why is this necessary? Thanks.

Hey guys, My fiancee was recently offered a job with Apple in Austin, TX and we're considering making the move from NC at the end of next month. With that said, I've been scrambling to do as much research as possible before we make our decision. Was wondering if any of you out there live in the Austin area or know much about it's film industry? Do most productions hire local crew or do they primarily bring in LA mixers? How are the incentives? Do many of the productions shot in TX hire local mixers or just bring in LA or NY mixers? How's the commercial market? I'm thinking long and hard on the decision because I moved back to NC from LA (where I primarily di…

Does anyone have any personal experience using type-to-talk applications for iPad and/or MacBook? It would be great to be able to store common phrases on hot keys or shortcuts or list to click on.

I see that a lot of current mixers have bar graph meters and I'm wondering how the readings are weighted. My favorite mixer was a Filmtech which had BBC type PPM meters, quite large so you could read them with ease while glancing down. Are the up to date meters programmable or are you stuck with what you have bought?

I have not seen U2 in concert but I think The Edge is an amazing guitar player --- I have always wondered, and maybe somebody here has seen U2 live, how they manage to get such a full sound with just guitar, bass guitar and drums. Are there others playing on stage we do not see? Do they use an playbacks while they perform? Curious.

Does anyone have any experience hiding lavs on Grizzly looking, long haired, big bearded, duck call neckless, heavy jacket wearing, duck hunters? I am doing this show where booming is really not an option. I have had some success hiding lavs in brim of hats but sometimes theres still a ton of clothing noise when they rub the hat or want to take it off to scratch their hair. I am really looking for a way to hide a mic somewhere on the body and not get any clothing noise. Using B6. Unfortunately there is no button holes to stick the mike out of, all zippers. Also is there a way to maybe set the gain structure so that the mic becomes less sensitive to clothing noise? (That m…

Has anyone had a similar experience ? I was using a UH400a as wireless boom (416 w/ 48v) with a bag system (rx just 1 to 2 feet from tx) without any issue.... ...until the vehicle reach around 90 - 95 mph , then I received a very fast chattery and constant interference. The same bag system was using a UM400a with a lav without issue at any speed. Both rx are 411a . Unfortunately it is not easy to duplicate the circumstances for testing. Anyone ???? Jeff

Hello UK and EU members. In my search for work across the globe I've considered putting my dual citizenship (USA/UK) to use. My simple questions are: What are the industries in the UK and EU like? I know Spain is not doing too well. (have a Spanish friend who is a DP) But I know almost nothing about the other countries. I have a British Passport and am a citizen of the UK. If I were to entertain the thought of moving out there what would I be expecting to find? Is there a lot of work for production sound recordists and post production sound editors/designers? How is the lifestyle of a "filmie" out there? Sorry so many questions but I'm just c…

this is totally off the sound-book but: I want to give a present to a UK family. My German family loves a game called „Scotland Yard“. Is this known amongst UK families or will it be (hopefully) a surprise?

Hello, I'd love to meet some UK sound folks in person. I am available December 27th in Cambridge, or December 29th in London, or maybe both. Edit ** It seems that a few people are keen on December 29th in London. As the date approaches, we can get an idea of numbers and find a place and time to meet. I am open to suggestions, but my idea would be a big pub where we can all just mingle around and won't need any special accommodation. A covered outdoor patio would be fine too. I don't mind the cold.

Hi, I'm new to JWS but thought i'd start off a topic about insuring kit in the UK as there isn't one yet. I have a small run and gun set up with 744T, 442, 416 and 8050. I'm looking to get wireless mics so want to find an insurer that will cover all this kit better than my current one Music Guard. Who do you UK guys use for your kit insurance? I've googled a few but wanted to see if you have some good recommendations, or some avoid this company advise. Thanks Simon

Why anyone but a total obsessive would be interested in this - and that describes me quite well - I cannot say. But this link http://www.gridwatch.templar.co.uk/ takes you to a display that not only gives you the current electrical power consumption in the UK, but also from what sources it is fed: coal, gas turbine, hydro, etc etc. If you like this sort of thing, I am glad to have passed it on; if it bores you, my apologies. It sometimes takes quite a long time to load, be patient.

Hi all, I understand in the Uk you can pay a yeary or two yearly licence to use (channel 38 606-614MHz) My question is to do with purchasing other frequencies. If i want another 10 wireless systems on the interleaved spectrum how much bandwidth should i be purchasing? My understanding is its £8.50 for 200khz of bandwidth??!! thats not a lot of spectrum.

Thought I'd post this up for discussion as I just found out about it, and didn't find any reference to it on this site. Something that appears to have a longer research history, but the inventor Woody Norris has developed something he calles "hypersonic sound". These are devices that uses the higher directionality of ultrasonic frequencies to create speakers with similar qualities. A modulated ultrasound signal is transmitted, which uses the nonlinear properties of air to make the air itself act as a demodulator. A highly directive beam of ultrasonic sound therefore causes a sound signal to be created in the air it passes through. The video is the inventor givin…

https://www.wired.com/story/ultrasonic-signals-wild-west-of-wireless-tech/ I've been thinking about ultrasound a lot lately. Thanks to information on the forum, I've found out that some companders on analog wireless devices may choke out the signal you actually want when dealing with ultrasound due to HF boosts in the system. The noise from an induction stove or an ultrasound motion detector are known examples. Apparently ultrasound is becoming more commonly used in IoT-devices for wake-up signals and inter-device communication in household stuff, so I'm quite curious about the future as well as the present state of things. How many ultrasound related problems actua…

Hi, maybe some folks from Hungaria are on this board and can help me with a company from Budapest called - UltraViola Audio - https://ultraviola.eu If it is thrustworthy or not? They have good prices and I would like to order there. I have explored their homepage. Everything seem professional and all the products are the usual suspects. The imprint also looks good. I checked the VAT number and the registration number and both are fine. Any opinions?
