Any film/video sound pro will appreciate the unprecedented collaboration of sound and picture in the movie "Baby Driver". This article is an interview with Production Mixer Mary Ellis, her crew, and editor Paul Machliss, about what it took to make it happen. https://soundandpicture.com/2018/02/baby-driver-production-mixer-mary-ellis-and-editor-paul-machliss/

So, a student googled something like "best lav mics" and came across this article, and then asked my opinion on it. My opinion was that there are "best of" gear articles that are only about Amazon links and $ kickbacks. Check it out for the lulz, if only for what's missing... 😅😅😞 https://filmlifestyle.com/best-lavalier-mic/

I would like to hear from Thomas Varga about how he did the sound on "Birdman".It appeared to me to be an amazingly difficult job.

I hope in the future as the VFX tools we have at hand get better and as crew awareness increases then we'll be able to happily have booms in shot much more often for the sake of improved sound. This is already common place on many shoots such as "House of Cards", and advancing VFX technology will lead to an expansion of situations booms can be put into shot. https://www.premiumbeat.com/blog/adobe-releases-content-aware-fill-tool/ https://www.jldiaz.com.ar/lectura-en.php?name=houseOfCards

MANY years ago I worked with a "hidden camera" spot director whose code word for "kill the set audio feed to the clients" was "coldski". Many commercial directors nowadays do not want the village listening when they talk to the talent, who is probably wired, and insist that the audio only be open to the clients when we are actually rehearsing or rolling. This makes for some added difficulties for the sound dept. when trying to troubleshoot between takes in a rapid-fire shooting style, as well as making sure that wardrobe or etc hasn't changed something that makes the talent mic noisy etc right before they want to roll. After getting burned trying to keep the channels o…

Good evening to all, Having read many a jwsound post concerning the hiding of lavaliers, I have embraced my fears, welcomed my anxiety, and have been approaching this specific task with the alacrity of an adept...and having an absolute f#*king blast. My question is prompted by an experience this past weekend with a particularly difficult female actor who, although later apologized for her attitude, made things rather uncomfortable during the multiple wardrobe changes that neccesitated repeat lav placements; pulling her mic off without care, and letting it be known through her comments and body language that she did not appreciate my need to not only mic her up, but…

Published on Dec 24, 2015 "Reading a computer screen in Braille is a cumbersome process today. The visually impaired people who rely on the system of raised dots only have access to one line at a time. Beyond that, current systems don't translate charts or graphs. A team of researchers from Michigan Engineering and the School of Music, Theater and Dance are working on a solution. Their technology, which has been described as a leader in the field, relies on pneumatic use of liquid or air - to shrink the mechanism and expand it so it can display more at once. Their goal is for it to display the equivalent …

To my L.A. based Sound Mixer colleagues: Has anyone successfully gotten jobs from the "Find Film Work" newsletter offered on the IATSE 695 website? Just curious if it's worth the $7/month. Thank you. Lee Ascher Los Angeles

I just saw "Gone Girl" tonight, and I really enjoyed it. It seems like the first half of the movie had a lot of ADR, even in shots where one would think good production sound would be attainable. Might anyone here have any insight about this particular project?

After a stunt with dialog... Director - "Great. Moving on." B Operator - "Have to go again! Caught a boom." Director - "It's fine. We have pieces." B Operator - "Well it was also out of focus." A Operator - "And we might have caught B camera in A camera." AD - "I guess we should go again." I'm not convinced the boom was in. But I suppose it could have been.

I know asking for a new forum topic is a sore subject atm, but I'll go ahead and express an idea anyways How about an "I worked this" topic for us to share work we've done for constructive criticism, and feedback? Personally, I enjoy when members post stuff they've worked on as it's helped me push the quality of my own work. It would be nice to have a consolidated section for such discussions.

I was booming on a low-budget horror film called "Hobb's End"... it must have been about 10 years ago now. We were shooting in Sandpoint, ID, in December... lots of night EXT's... there was an awful flu bug that was making it's way through most of the crew (one guy had to be hospitalized)... It was nasty -- to this day, one of the hardest projects I ever worked on -- but there was a really strong sense of camaraderie as a result. Most of us were staying at small hotel in Sandpoint and just about every night, a bunch of us would gather in the room of one of the Grips and "imbibe" until the wee hours (perhaps why everyone was sick?) and we'd commiserate on the day'…

Just watched the Love Bites ep.2 . I must say it is very smart and refreshing and the cast is very good... For TV! Occasional cheesy moments but other then that ... BRAVO It must be fun working on it.

Is anyone else having issues after using the 'Mark Board As Read' After I've viewed 'New Topics' I then click on the 'Mark Board As Read' link. If I then come back into 'New Topics' some time later, all of the previous topics are still there without anything additional having been added to them. For instance 'The View From The Office' has had the same last post from mikefilosa for my last 6 'New Topic' visits. Regards John
