Wandered off to the odd side of youtube, found this quite interesting. Maybe someone here will too. Wonder if post can soon do ADR without the real actors. Or to repair lets say, just a word.

Last night's NBC live musical seems to have avoided the horrible room noise that plagued "Sound of Music" and "Peter Pan"... 1) by presenting it as a proscenium show on a single stage, rather than from a giant multi-stage set. I'm sure they did this for other reasons (including budget and camera management) but it did focus the actors' voices in a single place and presumably a smaller room... or in room large enough that they could get away from the worst HVAC. 2) by mixing canned bg into the surrounds, almost constantly. Room noise could hide behind that and be easier to forgive. 3) fwiw, there also seems to be a lot less intimate dialog i…

There are plentiful, but I’m curious which filmmaking forums (and Facebook Groups) other mixers find interesting. I love filmmaking’s collaboration between departments and I often wonder what everyone else is doing on set. Grips especially – what they do looks like magic to me. I recently found the forum hosted by Roger Deakins himself. Hoping his lighting and composition boards will inform my boom operating, even at least a little bit.

Historically, Lectro reserves today as a date to launch a radically cutting edge piece of gear that almost seems unbelievable. Any word on if they have released a new piece of gear today ?

I am doing a movie in a couple of months and with a good chunk taking place on a "stage" that is much more like a warehouse with some flats in it. During the "how is sound" discussion with the director and producer I pitched the usual fury-pads, carpets, curtains. I also, not thinking it would go anywhere, pitched that we could bring the booms in frame on the wides and have VFX paint them out and to my surprise production called VFX and he said "we are able to do that." I have never had the pleasure of doing this on a longer narrative production (done it a couple of times on commercials and with green screens) and wanted to hear from some people who about the…

http://www.mysuicide.net/ I haven't seen this movie yet, but I keep hearing about it. 1) Created for the YouTube Generation. Completely refreshing way of making a film. 2) Speaks to young people about a serious problem, with a great message. 3) David Carradine's last film. - (the Irony) 4) Got large funding from Harold Ramis's group. 5) And like a true indie film, we may never see it because as of now there's no distribution? This my friends is what the dream is all about! -Richard

I will be in Vancouver this week and I'm trying to fill up a couple of light days, anyone in production at the moment who fancies a visitor? It's always good to meet new people. Julian Howarth CAS.

Hey guys, I’ve got a 208 D for sale and was wondering what price I should list it for to get things going? Pricing is kind of all over the place. Or if there’s a shop you guys could recommend me to sell it to. Thank you

Good article in L.A. Times that discusses who is actually benefiting from all these tax incentives and rebates offered to productions around the country. It has always been by contention that the primary beneficiary has been the mega-media corporations who will produce their product wherever they can get the best deal --- it may be Michigan this month, just as it was New Mexico last year and Canada before that --- they will continue to chase the deals but where does that leave us? http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-ct-moviestates22-2009sep22,0,5945570,full.story - Jeff Wexler

Can't seem to find it anymore, does anyone remember the link to the video of the boom operator doing some fine work that was posted a few months (maybe years) ago ? It was a rather long take and he was doing some nice work following the action. I'm doing a workshop and would love to show some footage of boom-op doing his thing.

I've used the Tram 50 on Lectros for a few years, but recently purchased one for a Sen G2. I noticed a lot of wire rubbing during some sit down interviews today. We were shooting pretty tight so I was clipping the lav just below frame and running the write on the outside of the subjects clothes. The noise from the clothes rubbing just seemed so much louder and tinny than I've ever heard compared to Lectros, is this possible?

Maybe this is already happening for you guys, but in case it's not... If you're ever unable to go on recce, you should ask them to record videos of the location instead of photos. Some of the location's audio issues might become apparent.

I have never worked in musical theatre... But lately I'm seeing clips of Broadway actors who have two lavs taped to their cheek. Is this simply safety redundancy, or something else?
