I have battery eliminators for my G2 recievers, but I keep getting a buzzing noise when I hook them up to my BDS, sounds like a grounding issue or possibly RF splatter. The noise is gone when the battery eliminator is hooked up to the BDS outside of my mixer bag. Still trying to figure this one out.

I know this is not a product that we would typically use but I found it to be very interesting, amazing package, features and functions. From Blackmagic Design. Records to SSDs.

Hi Everyone, I have the MKH416-T, and with a 664 on the way, there's no T-power option anymore. Either I swap to a P48 version, or get one of those adapters instead. If I do get one of those PSC barrels, does it need to be connected at a certain point down the chain? Rather than directly on the mic, could it be plugged in closer to the mixer?

I have had aseveral requests lately for a second headset. Someimes I am able to give the producer a set of cans they can plug into the monitor (sdi) , but I realize I should invest in an IFB setup. My question is which one? I have used Lectro r1's and they seem really well built. I see they now have frequency agile IFBT4 and R1A. Does anyone have experience with this setup and what else in addition to tx and rceiver would you recomend. Earpiece/power ac&bds cable? Thx in advance for your input. JHW

Any thoughts? Same size as Cs-3. Mid weight between Cs1 and 3. They say longer reach. Is this a sports mic? On camera? Curious... http://www.sanken-mic.com/upload/pdf/en/cs-2_press_release.pdf

Hi All, I had a recent issue with a TRX900 tx/recorder last week and wanted to see if anyone else had experienced this before. The series of events ... Start of shoot, part worn lithium batteries from the day before, configure frequencies, format card via extended menu, reboot, manual TC jam via cable, seg1 starts, records without issue for a couple of hours, power down. Next location a couple of hours later, connect TC jam cable, power up, seg2 records for a couple of hours with a couple of adjustments of gain setting and unplugging / rep lugging of lav mic, contributor leaves location with trx still rolling, battery presumably fails at some point. End of …

So I noticed recently that my Maha 8 bay AA charger for my Powerex batteries has been making this soft clicking sound. Anyone know what that could be, if I should be worried or if it's nothing? It makes the clicks with batteries charging and with no batteries. With batteries charging, the clicking is synced with the blinking of the battery charge level on the screen. Charger is this one - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Maha-PowerEx-8-Bay-Charger-8-x-AA-and-8-x-AAA-Batteries-Kit-/261076874000 Here is a link to the sound: http://soundcloud.com/jesse-flaitz/maha-8-bay-charger-noise Thanks!

Hello all, First post here. I recently(and finally!) purchased my equipment and waited several extra months to receive one of my Lectrosonic WM tx block 26. Whilst is kicks ass and takes names just like my block 21 version it has an extra aesthetic feature. Can you spot it? It doesn't hinder the performance whatsoever but it is indeed different then my block 21 version. On the block 26 WM, the entire screen/button pad surface is recessed below the rest of the tx body well on the block 21 the screen pad is flush. Any thoughts? Thanks, Greg

What sort of battery life should I expect from the Lectrosonics RM remote? I usually turn it on at the beginning of the day and leave it on. It really isn't doing anything... just an LED lit and the LCD display, but it seems to barely make it through the day with an alkaline. In my mind, I thought it should last a couple days! Tom

Hi guys. I'm new here on the forums and am looking to pick up filming and audio, mostly as a hobby though. The reason is because my friends and I are looking to open up a youtube channel to post videos and stuff. So we basically are looking into getting some audio and video equipment. Well the first thing I have is a boom pole. My aunt gave it to me after I told her of my new hobby. Apparently, my uncle was a sound guy for a local tv station in my city and had this left over. I'm not sure what model it is though. It says K-tek on it and has 4 sections. Any more info you guys can give me on it (like the model and how it works basically) will be appreciated. Thanks. …

I am currently using UCR411a radio recievers for my wireless lav's. I also have a bunch of old Sennheiser G2's. Was wondering if adding some UCR190 or UCR195 recievers would add any advantage? Seems like a step backwards since it's a fixed frequency, but is there any improvement otherwise i.e. reception range, etc?

I have a pick up day tomorrow where we are shooting on the Sony FS700. I have looked at the Sony Website and see under the product specs that there is a SMPTE TC output, but no mention of what type of connection it is. There is no mention of a TC input in the specs list. I have tried to find the manual online to no avail, so I can not RTFM, and it is 9:25 PM EST, so calling the manufacturer is out of the question as well. I also checked out Scott Farr's website, and the manual is not there either. It's not a huge deal since I will be recording dual system anyway, I just wanted a heads up as to what I am walking into. Thanks in advance, Marc Hoppe

I'm on the first day of a foreign shoot today, and my MIxPre-D has thrown up an unusual glitch, the meters have stopped metering, and I can't generate tone. The meters actually work, they flash when you start the unit up, and show headphone level, but don't show any audio levels, unless you really crank the gain up, then the very last LED lights up as the limiters do their thing. Has this happened to anyone else? The audio seems to be passing through the unit fine, and I can meter it on my 744T so it's not the end of the day, but it would be nice to find out what's wrong. To all <Hatters> I'm away from home, so am not going to be making expensive international …

I'm doing a shoot Monday that "might" benefit from some waterproof lavs. I was told we could cut and probably get away with booming it, and we just might. However I would love to have the option. So, could some of you chime in and tell me which make and model lavs are waterproof? Presently I own: Sanken COS11's Countryman B6's Sennheiser MKE-2's MM Audio (AKA Microphone Madness) MM-PSM-L Which if any of these can be submerged in water a foot or two? If none of these will work, I guess I'm out of luck. To late to order anything for Monday! Still I'd like to know for the future. Thanks, Tom

Before ordering this charger, all the advertisements mentioned it's able to charge NiCad, NiMH, and Li-Ion, but the manual that came with the unit only mentions NiCad and Li-Ion...nothing about NiMH. Can anyone assure me NiMH types can be used on this charger? Thanks

I'm about to upgrade to a 664 and will soon be selling my 552 (more on that later...). Over the last couple of years there has been some build up of dirt on the front face of the 552, particularly around the pfl switches, transport control and under the faders. And I'm sure there's been some dust fall down the pan/trim/filter pot cavities. Is it possible to safely dismantle the chassis to clean around/under the front panel switches? How is this done? Also what solvent would you use to clean with? I'd imagine methylated spirits on a cotton tip would work but please advise me if this would be damaging to the electronics or metal finish. Many thanks in advance.

Hello all. I've been hring in Zaxcom TRX900LT transmitters and QRX100 receivers on a current project and have mixed feelings on the system as a whole. The local record feature is the only reason im using them which is brilliant but i find the RF range terrible in comparison to my Audio 2040 systems and for this reason wouldn't consider investing a system of my own - plus i also hope that one day Sound Devices will surpise us all with a comparable product. The local record feature has proven so useful i'm considering buying a couple of ZFR200 recorders and looping out of the 6-pin Lemo on a TX2040 into the 3 pin micro lemo on a ZFR so i can have local record and zero …

I'm going to be setting up a Buddie of mine to record a speaker at a conference in China. He's just going to set up one wireless Sennheiser G3 and a Zoon. Anyone know if the frequencies are a problem in China? If he takes wireless from the US, any problems? Thanks -Richard

Today I took delivery of a new Ambient slate and theres a feature I'm having a little trouble with, its the EXT T/C check, its giving strange readings, although very consistent. It reads as follows Fed/TC = Ambient reading 23.976 = 24 24 = 24 25 = 25 29.97ND = 30 29.97DF = 30DF 30 = 30 30DF = 30DF I've fed it timecode from my 788t, Zaxcom recorder, Denecke box, I've even tried Jumpstart and Denecke toolbox apps on the iphone and the results are always the same. I'm sure I'm doing something fundamentally wrong, but the instruction manual seems to written in a language closer to Klingon than english. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you look at the manufacture's polar patterns as well as their frequency response charts when you are comparing mics? A polar pattern is a graphical representation of the microphone's sensitivity by axis. Complete polar patterns will have overlapping graphs of many frequencies because mics will have different polar patterns varying with frequency. At a glance you can see how a mic will sound when your actor talks into the side when the boom operator misses his cue or, when by design, he "sides" the mic to a, louder overlapping, actor to balance the level of a softer speaking actor he has put on axis. Also note the jagged "phasey" uneven polar pattern of shotgu…
