I have a pair of DPA 4061 wired with Lectrosonics connectors and I want to be able to plug them into an XLR input on my 702, so I'm planning to wire up a couple of adaptor cables. I'm just a little unsure about which pins to solder where. From what I can tell looking at the info on the Lectrosonics page here - http://www.lectroson...tid,10/view,kb/ - and from my knowledge of wiring XLR cables, I should be doing the flowing: XLR: Pin 1 - Shield / Ground Pin 2 - Signal Pin 3 - Singal *Pin 2 and 3 are shorted together and thus recieve the same signal. TA5M: Pin 1 - Shield / Ground Pin 2 - Signal Pin 3 - Signal Pin 4 - Signal Pin 5 - Empty *…

I was driving along ths morning, and my mind was wandering, and after some confusion, I ended up asking a question to which I had no idea of the answer.... So - SD664 is a 6 IP, into 4 buss analogue mixer with a digital recorder that can sniff both the IP tracks and the mix busses. I was wondering at what point do things get A to D'd, and are there any implications here with OP timing? So - my question is really to do with the time domain of the OPs - are the direct out analogue OPs in time with the main analogue OPs, and are the Aux analogue OPs in time with the main analogue OPs? This then raises another question, which is a similar thought to do wit…

I have tried to synchronized TC between an AG-AF101 and my. 788T using XL-LB2t cable. First I have tried to set Panasonic as Master and 788 as Slave (TC mode extc/cont), but when I have disconnected tsync cable the count on 788 was too slow than Panasonic. I have set 788 as Master and Panasonic as slave and count in both go well also I disconnect sync cable.

I have a job coming up where we are going to be shooting opera singers auditioning. At this point the plan is there is going to be a panel of "judges" that the singers will sing to - and there will be a Mic stand placed in front of the panel, and over the course of two days several singers, both male and female, will approach the Mic and sing. So I'm looking for suggestions on what Mic to use. It will need to sound good, be able to handle high SPL, look good for camera, and hopefully not break the bank. Any thoughts.

The "Timecode Buddy" system has been out for a while. Wondering if anyone would care to share there experiences with it so far ? I know it was discussed at great lengths that the "master" unit was too big and that the "Transmiter" version should be the size and that there should be a simple "receiver" unit. But I'm hoping to get beyond that and hear opinions about the system as it stands now. Mainly: reliability, range, stability of the clock, ease of use, ruggedness, power draw and interoperability with other gear in and around that frequency zone (D4 systems, Teradeck, etc...). Thanks.

I haven't found any postings about this topic. I wondered if charging lithium batteries when they are still fully charged (like when unutilized from the day before) shortens the battery life ? Do you guys recharge your lithiums batteries before every shoot even if they read as full, or do you wait until they are half way empty ? And more importantly, do you trust the LED indicator built in on the battery (if it reads as full) or you recharge no matter what, before each and every shoot ? Do lithiums have a certain life span in terms of how many times they can be re-charged ? Thank you.

I have a 702T that I am interfacing with a PSC alpha mix. When I output line level from the mixer into the 702 (with the 702 set to line as well, naturally) I have very little lower adjustment. So, setting the 702 at -20 puts me at just above 0 on the pots on the 702. If I turn the pots all the way down it only brings the signal down to about -25 on the recorder. Now, if I change the mixer/recorder output/input to mic level I have lots of bottom and top and have to attenuate the pots up quite considerably to get to -20. When I record in line/line my recording are, to my mind too thin. When I record in mic/mic the recordings (and the waverforms) are nice and fa…

Comtek PR 216. Sits in the corner of my Kata bag and with every most moves I make, rustles or crackles and sends noise into it's transmission. Sounds like a classic bad ground, or bad antenna connection (I've got 2 different antennas so I'm going to rule out antenna failure) but I've had that thing apart several times and the solder connections are good and I can't get it to make the same noise while powered up and partly disassembled. When it's assembled, it makes noise when I wiggle the antenna, it makes noise when I move the 1/8 plug around. It makes noise when I tap on the case. It makes noise when I shake it. I kinda just want to chuck it in the ocean…

http://www.rfstreet.com/product_info.php?products_id=850 This is a passive antenna offered for DVB-T systems in VHF and UHF spectra. Claims 28 dbi! Might order two of these with the offered optional SMA connectors to put on a Lectro SR instead of the whips, just out of curiosity. If nothing else, raising the antenna above head level will surely improve reception when there are a lot of physical barriers (such as people) between Rx and Tx. Also thinking of placing these on the roof of a follow car. Of course there are more professional and tested options (as plentily discussed here before) but why not try this one out? It's dirt cheap. Wondering if there could be…

So this has been discussed at length on here about using sharkfins, but most of the forums sort of end in controversy/open ended, I think mostly because of its lengthy technical considerations, but is there a pamphlet out there by Larry F or someone that discusses this topic in general terms and then proceeds to its more technical side. What I generally gather from wanting to start a setup with sharkfins is that: 1)I need the proper 50ohm cable. 2) Although the pole doesn't make that much of a difference it's better if it isn't grounded/metal 3) Confusion abounds with me as to why people use more than two antenna(i?), wouldn't this increase phase cancellation? …

I have been looking for any interesting new products released over the last few days at IBC in Amstedam. Has anyone found anything apart from the following. Audio Wireless Ltd have a Timecode Link which can be switched to receiver transmit modes. It's in the same enclosure as their radio mic transmitters and is programmable across a 500MHz range of 430 - 930MHZ. http://www.audiowire...link-at-ibc2012 Sennheiser have a new digital wireless system for theatre and broadcast applications. They claim to have spent over 12m euro (USD 15.3m plus) on their new 9000 system. No word on transmission method or how many channels can work together in a block. http://en-de…

Hi I just purchased a used Lectrosonics wireless setup and the M-140 has a bad termination. The NYC store I purchased it at won't back up the deal - they said this used gear is "AS IS." I need to get the mic fixed - any place recommended and what should that cost. Seems straight forward. THANKS!!!

I have read other posts of dissatisfaction with the Red Epic's cheezy mic-level audio inputs. At least it has meters on the screen, but they are unmarked. I can only guess where the -20 reference level is located. There are a few crosshairs on the meter, but I haven't a clue where to set a -20 tone with the supplied Epic attentuation sliders. Any suggestions how to calibrate this? thx Commpost

Hey guys, I just got a call from the folks over at Sheathing Technologies Inc about ordering body pack covers from them for my smqv's. What it came down to was, I have to order 2 boxes of 100 pieces minimum at $39ea. They're going to charge me $5 to ship to a residential address They want $22 to ship to my house in Austin Good on them for doing what they've gotta do, but I'm really only looking for around 50, so I thought it'd see if anyone out there had a supply they wouldn't mind selling from. Interested? Thanks, Parker

Hello - I know this is slightly OT but I figured the good people here will have lots of experience with this mic. I have an ADR session tomorrow that used an MKH40 on set, and I need to match that as closely as possible. I've never actually used the 40, so I was wondering what you guys would think would match in there the best. I have easy access to: Sennheiser 416, 415, MKH50, MKH60 Neumann KMR81, KMR82 Schoeps MK41, CMIT5U Sanken CS-3e Thanks all! -Mike

Hey all. I was wondering if anyone uses 100 series Lectro's as camera hops these days. I know they're a somewhat outdated bit of gear, but the specs seem legit and I could only imagine that they'd at least outperform the G2/3 systems that some of you guys are running for scratch tracks. I'm working on a couple shows that are using smaller cams, and I figure this would be a nice solution. I've been using the Zaxcom IFB100 with ERX's for the past few months but have hated them (shoddy range, weird noises and tones, easily broken, etc.). Now I'm looking to get something that actually works! What do you think?

Do I need anything more than a 1/8th inch TRS to Left/Right splitter cable to input sound from a couple of G3 RXs into the Tape Return of a MixPre-D? Am I also correct in thinking that you can control the level of inputs 3 and 4 on the MPD using the return level? Thanks in advance to anyone with some useful info.

I'm in the process of choosing between a deneke smart slate, and ipad/tc buddy system for my slating needs. I know that as far as "build" and "pro gear" goes, deneke can't be beat, but the tc buddy has features that deneke does not, and I'm told that the tc crystal is the same. TC buddy can send wirelessly to multiple ipads on set while it sits on the camera and gets wireless tc from me, and while it also sends that tc to cam. I'm doing more and more 5D work, so I need a solid sync system. The weak spot with the tc buddy is the ipad. Sometimes I have to run with the slate in my bag, for shooters to shoot in the field. I don't want to buy a smart slate o…

Does anyone have an expierience recording to a DEVA via the AES inputs being fed from the 01v96? The mixer on my cart provides wordclock to my recorders, however there is no option to set the sample rate to 48048 on the board. Should I be using the DEVA as the master clock and forcing the 01v96 to run off the pulled up sample rate? Will this result in any audio artifacts? Any thoughts or comments?

Hi, For a future project (TV commercial) I will work with the Sound Devices 702 Portable Digital Audio Recorder. It records the audio on a CF card. I also want to record on an external bus-powered firewire drive. I have a Lacie Rugged Hard Disk 500Gb. Do I have to use a Firewire filter? I tested the set-up with filter, but my hard drive didn't seem to work. Without the firewire filter, it did work. What does the firewire filter exactly do? I didn't hear any noise using it without filter. Can you guys give me any advice? Thanks!
