Has anyone found a small case useful for transporting the Schoeps hollow-foam windscreens (large and small)? I keep squishing mine. I'd like to stop. Thanks, Eric

Can recording explosions damage a shotgun mic? Specifically, I have a Senn MKH60 that seems to be all distorted since my last shoot, which consisted of several explosions and gunfire.

Hey Jon and the SD Folks, How about a software upgrade to the CL-WiFi App? There are a few features I'd like to see: 1. The ability to enter sound report information and edit reports via the App. I love how easy it is to name tracks and all that with the current app, but was somewhat surprised that I had no access to the Sound Report menu and information such as Production Company, Job, Boom Op, etc. Seems like you'd want to be able to use the App to enter alpha-numeric data in any of the fields in the 788. 2. I wish the CL-WiFi app would somehow remember my track names like the machine does. Sometimes I need to swap the name on track 1 with the nam…

I was at Pro-Sound in Manhattan today picking up some equipment. On my way out I spotted a bag that looked really interesting. Upon further review, I noticed that the bag had a WAIST STRAP. Why is that in all caps? Because it's something that I have been thinking about for ages, and someone finally did it. Well. Really well. The idea is that the human body is not meant to carry large loads on the shoulders. This creates fatigue and neck strain, which can lead to headaches, sore shoulders and let's not forget the pain it is for bag mixers to boom while they are doing run and gun. The waist is much better suited to bear heavy loads. This idea has been proven …

Hi, I need to feed my recorder (Tascam DR-680) and my mixer (SD442) and I really don't know where to start. My idea (well, the only thing I can see clearly) is to find something small enough to be carried in the same bag. Which kind of solutions do you use or suggest for that matter? Thanks a lot in advance!

I recently had a request for a time code enrypted record of an interview. I told the client that I did not have this tool. She came with a zoom recorder and we jammed tc with a pad and an audio out. She was satisfied and sent it to a transription house. I have heard from other mixers that the zoom is ok but a zaxcom zfr100/2--/300 would be a better choice. Are any of you using either th zax or the zoom and what are your impessions of each? JHW

This was inside another thread but I thought it was worth a separate thread since I've seen some confusion about Venue modes before. Question: I'm almost at the same place Marc: got 3 411s and an SRA for a series shoot in july and if I ever get to the point I have more prductions like this one (cart based), I'm definitely going with the Venue system; I did the pilot last year with that and it's simply great to work with ... If memory's good, you can ''split'' all your modules in two groups (antenna "A" and "B") or use the modules independantly; how may of you guys split the rack in two ? Is there much difference in terms of reception ? I know there's two breeds o…

I only had the 89cc so I was looking for a longer boom pole, and it struck me as very odd that I could get a 144cc for $270, but the 152cc was ~$600. Why is that extra 8" over doubling the price of the boom pole? Were the 144ccs very poorly made and something was corrected on the 152cc?

I was looking to buy a couple extra ENG wireless units and wanted to get some recommendations on older units. The pros of buying these units would be the price, but what are the cons of the older units; compatibility, tracking, etc? Anyones experiences would be greatly appreciated. What are your thoughts on the 210d vs 211 receivers? How much better is the 411a, even if marginally? Cheers!

So, anybody had a chance to try out the new rycote booms yet? http://www.trewaudio.com/store/home.php?cat=156 I'm kind of curious how the new locking mechanisms work, seams like they could be good for fast, silent changes. But they also seem to be slightly heavier than similar k-tek sizes. Not sure about this one.

Hello all, please bear with me it's been a very long and trying shoot day. I've been using a micron quad pack diversity transmitter / receiver for over a year now and generally at least three of four cancels are solid. I am shooting a picture where I need to use all four quite often and the shots are too wide for boom and production does not seem to want close coverage often. I did a tech day and all channels of the quad pack were great and no interference or problems. On day one I had at least one of them hissing with high frequency interference that seemed to pulse in during speech as if it came in and out when the signal became strong. I made due and h…

My kit2 rycote basket unfortunately has seen it's last day. Many many cracks, and the end cap I can barely remove anymore. I'm unable to source the old style baskets. Apparently old stock is completely gone. Was debating getting the ball gag as a replacement. For use with my mkh50. Any opinions or experiences regarding gag vs. Full basket with the 50 are much appreciated.

Hi guys, I'm still quite new here, so if this question is in the wrong forum, just let me know and I'll try to move it. I'm a sound artist and unfortunately not a trained technician. For a new project I need to work with 6 wireless transmitter / reciever packs, walking around in the city. I've checked with the usual firm where I rent my super high end equipment, and they gave me an offer for 5 weeks rent of 6 Sennheiser SK5212-II + EK3241. I have worked with those once before and they worked beautifully. However, our budget is limited, and we were wondering if it wouldn't be cheaper to buy the transmitter/recievers (especially in the long run, with doing at…

I think there are many in the sound community that don't like to see Sound devices making video recorders. So I want to share my new rig for sit down interviews what is 90% of what I do. I'm personally very happy with this and of course I don't want to change anybody's opinion. i can carry everything I need on my backpack, ride my my bike, I don't need to be watching the directors or Dp monitor to have a sense of framing

HI all, I've got a corporate gig coming up and I usually do fiction. I have to place some COS-11 on interview subjects quickly and it can be visible. Will be shooting exteriors in somewhat busy locations. I dont want to have any problems with wind. Usually I hide them under clothes using the Sanken rubber mounts. I was considering buying the following: Horizontal Clip: http://www.trewaudio.com/store/product.php?productid=295&cat=176&page=4 Vampire Clip for windscreen: http://www.trewaudio.com/store/product.php?productid=1010&cat=176&page=5 Small metal windscreen: http://www.trewaudio.com/store/product.php?productid=29…

Just received a note from post. On day one of shoot, clip number 13, time of day roughly 11am, recorded timecode decides to begin at 00:00:00:15 and ends at 00:00:24:07. Clip #12 is good. Time of day as usual, 10:45:56:19, clip #14 is good 12:35:44:12. ERXTC mounted on camera, timecode on camera is normal time of day as if it didn't skip a beat. The nomad definitely didn't display the zero timecode as I was recording that 24 minute clip. Was recording 5 channels. I delivered the mirror card directly from the nomad. Just checked the primary files. I don't get it. Any thoughts?

Do you have a PS607 or a PS614? Do you miss having a decent handle? Well miss no more... I saw a hand-made handle in a photo (here on JWSound) and tracked down the person that made it. It's our own Kelsey Wood (aka Wandering Ear) and he made me one to spec at a very reasonable price. He's says that he'd do it for other people. I have no financial interest in this, just happy about my cool looking, and very comfortable, handle...

Hey guys, me again. I'm doing my first feature film with my Nomad (I get to sit down and mix and have a boom op, what a concept!). They are shooting on the Red Epic, and I will be renting a Smart-Slate for the 18 day job. Last time I shot with the RED, I know that a syncbox was needed because if the RED powered down, it would reset or lose its internal timecode. Is a syncbox still necessary still? It is just a safety measure? I've never really mixed using a smart slate so I just want to make sure I'm doing everything right. I know there have been reports of some issues with the Nomad, is there anything I need to know going into this to be better prepared?…

I have found a phenomenon on my Nomad running v3.07 and don't know whether this is normal as the machine has only been in my possession for about 10 days and whilst familiarising myself with it, I upgraded to v3.07. This is what happens: 1) Press "Menu" button 2) Scroll down to "Mode" and press menu button 3) Scroll down to "Input Configure" and press menu button 4) Press "Back" button and you are not taken back to the "Mode" menu; but to the "Zaxnet Setup" menu This only happens when backing out of "Input Configure" and not in any of the other sub-menus in "Mode" Do other Nomad users experience this? I have emailed Howy at Zaxcom about this ph…

Hi, Quick question: Supposing that there are no internal batteries in the unit, if I change the external battery of the Nomad during a shoot, timecode will sustain?
