Hi guys, I'm preparing for a scene, in which, I'll need 6 tracks(iso's). So, I was thinking of linking my 744 with a 702 (that I'll rent). Linking two recorders is something that I've never did before, so I'm asking for your patience and help. I know that you can do that through the C-Link conection, which carries world clock, TC and RS-232 data. My question is, should I also use the timecode multpin connection in order to assure that both machines are running and maintaing the same speed, or is it just safe using the C.Link connection? Thanks in advance, Marco

Lately I've been having noise issues with my 416 and my rode blimp, namely the switch-craft connector that connects to the 416. I've had to use snot tape inside and outside the mic to xlr connection and it STILL makes some noise when the pole is moved around a little to hard. HAs anybody had any problems with the Rode Blimp and a 416? It seems to me there is just a bit too much room between them when they are connected. I want to upgrade to a Rycote or a Cinela mount at some point, but for right now this is what I got. Anybody in the same boat?

I have a request for electroshock would it be possible to get in the doctor late for SRA I would have AES EBU Outputs. It would be very practical to use with a 788 and also to make it easier with cameras that have digital inputs. Thank you

cascading 2 788s uses the 788 c-link output of master(788) and input of slave (788) - does this mean i can only use ios device on the (788) master (If at all)? Or is there a way for these (788 c-link) ports to be multi-use (with some kind of hub)? How are people monitoring 2 (788) machines (that are not being fed from a mixer)? ideas so far: monitor from the slave (788) - send a hp channel to a master (788) output to a slave input (or visa versa)? monitor from 302 (or similar) - send a hp channel of each (788) machine to a 302 input for monitoring (and also feed other listeners)? the later seems the best but i'm wonderin if i'm missing an obvious alterna…

The title says it all. What's the most efficient way for powering both, sd302 and h4n? As usual, thanks all in advance, Juan.

Hey everybody. I've been lurking on jwsound for quite a while now, though I think this might be my first actual post. I've been a production sound mixer in Austin, TX for about 4 years. I have a couple of Block 28 Lectro 411a's with SM transmitters. I've been having an issue with the receivers since the day I bought them (used) about a year ago. I hear an audible click every time the diversity system switches antennas. Both receivers do this. Changing frequencies doesn't help. Swapping transmitters doesn't help. Most of the time this isn't an issue, but occasionally it renders my audio a total nightmare in post. Anyone ever have this problem befo…

I’ve been using my Nomad-6 for the past three weeks on 12 different shoots for a documentary I am independently producing in association with HBO. So, far the Nomad has crashed four times during recording, including twice in one day. Each time, except for one time, when the unit crashed (it stopped recording and the screen froze), it made a high-pitched tone that continued from the output channels (1 and 2) to my camera. On one occasion, the output was silent. By simply shutting off the unit and restarting, I was able to fully recover the recording up until that point, but lost about 30 seconds of critical dialog that was happening each time. On two occasi…

I have a few of these I use with the PD-6's ex-12 unit. One fell about two feet and the spring flew out. I got it to snap back in but I'm reluctant to use it in case it falls out inside the unit. Would you trust / risk it?

Hello everybody, Is there any good mic suspension that could hold the weight of an MKH 50, a baby ball gag and a windjammer. I am currently using an INV 7 suspension (made for the MKH 50) with lyres (grey). The lyres work fines but the INV 7 suspension cannot hold the weight of the additionnal ball gag and windjammer, even if I over-tighten the screw.

Hi all, I recently did a wireless hop with my Lectro SMQV transmitter. I came out of my SD 442's XLR left master, making sure to change the output level to "mic". I used an XLR to 5-pin adapter. I fed -20 tone out and the level going into the SMQV was still hot. I had to basically turn the audio level down to "0" on the transmitter to get the levels to match. What am I missing? Is it because the XLR out is balanced? What do I have to do to fix the problem? Thanks in advance, John

Would anyone know where to purchase a 10-feet XLR cable from in the UK? I've got a box full of Neutrik XLR connectors so I'd be more than happy to get the soldering iron out if this would be a cost-effective option. Thanks all

I thought I had my SRa's set properly for monitoring my SMa's battery levels, but it seems the gauge stays "full" for most of the battery's life, and then rather quickly starts dropping. Then when it reaches a level of 1/2 to 1/3, it's over! Usually just a few minutes remaining. I always us the 8x Energizer lithiums and have the "TXBAT" selection set to "AAL". Is this just the nature of the beast? I've been using the SRa's for about a year and a half and this has always been an issue. Any suggestions? Tom

Looking for peace of mind or a justification to lay down the law... This has always been a question in my mind when on set, especially when working with "seasoned" female talent that prefer to mic and de-mic themselves. Is is bad for the lav mic to plug in and pull out of the transmitter when the transmitter is on? The setup would be a lectro smqv with servo only and standard wired lavs (sankens, trams, etc). I know its bad when you are dealing with studio mics/condensers, but curious is the same applies to lavs. Thanks!

I have been trying to cut down on the RF spray from my TRX-990 with STA 150. I have determined the RF Spray into my Lectrosonics is much worse when I power the unit from same power source as lectrosonics. When I power unit from a separate BDS box RF spray is much less. Can I use a special cable or something to cut down on the RF spray when unit is powered from bag power system? As it isn't practical to power it from a separate battery in my sound bag. Or is there something wrong with my system that is causing this? I had had my system for 4 years and have just been dealing with the RF spray but would like to remove it or minimize it

Hey all, Never wired up my own Hirose before. This 4 pin male has the pins labeled on the back. But I am unsure if the numbering corresponds to the pins in a clockwise or counter clockwise fashion? Figure I would ask before destroying some gear! Thanks! Chase

I'm curious as to what color gaff tape you use for securing cables to floors? Sometimes we have to create a cable run somewhere that requires securing the cable for the safety of both people and equipment, and I want to know what everyone's preference is. I think black is classic (style-wise) and effective, however I'm wondering if it's good to have colored floor tape for that added bit of awareness? After all, it is still possible to trip over the tiny bump a cable makes through the tape. My only hesitation with colored tape is when doing a high-end event with patrons in the area the colored tape may make you either look the fool, or just plain stick out in th…

My production associate (DoP) on an upcoming project is procuring a certain type of LED lighting for the shoot: http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/554152433/180W_cordless_mining_lights_led_AC.html But in general are there any known issues for the sound department with LED lighting and the ballasts. And in particular any specifics relating to wireless mics. atb, dan.

Hey all Quick question if anyone has the answer. I got a bargain on what it seems a rather old NP1 charger. It is from a company call HME and it is the System 90 Plus. I got it for next to nothing and I am just testing it now with one NP1 battery. Would anyone know anything about this charger? Any good or bad? I am attaching a couple of pictures from the System 90 IQ Plus that I found on the internet in case it helps. The charger I got is labelled Charger Plus instead of the IQ Plus that's in the picture

I've been hunting for a rain poncho/cover for my bag setup for a while now and finally settled on the PS606 Rain Poncho. This review covers my initial thoughts upon receiving the PS606 only (no field use yet). First, it comes in a very handsome mesh and nylon storage bag. This is very useful for an item that requires containment after it's used, and even if only temporarily, the mesh should allow the product to breath a bit if it's still wet after use. Hopefully this will prevent mildew if you forget to dry it out. The front plastic covering the bag is very pliable and fully transparent. It appears to be of very high quality, however I'm not sure of how t…

Could someone recommend a direct box or perhaps just proper cables to separate the audio from a cell phone? Ideally it would be nice to an output for both sides of the conversation separately and NOT mixed LIKE THIS DOES,. If its not possible to get separate outputs, then just the callers end would be great. My plan is to send the audio to my 522. Thanks for the help, Damen

Something I made after being inspired by a thread here about antenna mounts. Everything was bought from Loews. The PVC is 2" Schedule 40 pipe. The only fitting that is glued is the pipe thread to Acme thread adapter. Andy
