Hi all, Might have a gig coming up that requires me to Looking into upgrading my recorder frm a Zoom to something better.. While the Nomad would be my ideal choice, I'm still not confident in being able to make back the investments I'll have to make for it. So i'm looking into the Used sections, & saw a Fostex FR2 and PD204. Both are 2 track machines, which are juz what my normal daily 5D job usually requests for.. The PD204 is good becaue it is a mixer/recorder, which means I can jus stash my wireless set and boom into it and ready for work, only problem i'm worried is its workflow... Is DVD-RAM still available in the market? or preferbly, Can the 204 do files c…

Here's a question that I keep wondering about every time I go to wire up a new cable for something that has multiple channels on one connector... Will this cable be prone to cross talk or other kinds of signal interference? More and more devices are using multi-pin connectors for various input/output. Take the Nomad for an obvious example, with it's several inputs and outputs on TA5 jacks. How concerned about cross talk should one be when wiring various cable harnesses for use with these kinds of connectors? For example, my Zaxcom TRX900STA150 transmitter has a single TA5 jack utilized for two channels of analog audio input.. would I be at risk of cross-talk betwe…

I know this isn't really "gear" but it is a tool that we can use to help save our hearing. Does anyone know anything about those "special" ear plugs that are custom molded to fit your ear? I saw them years ago and wanted to get a pair but didn't have the money at the time. From my understanding they are custom molded (by a doctor?) to exactly fit your ear. They cut the db input by 10db and are completely flat. I think they go for about $200/pair? Maybe? Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Looking to buy some new earbuds. I had 2 pair of Denon AH-C252, which I loved. My wife broke one pair, so I gave her the other. They are a good fit, and sound good at normal listening levels. They were only $30. They don't make them anymore, of course, and their successor comes with some complaints. I want to stay under $50. What do you guys love?

I know I've seen the answer to this question on here before, but after countless searches I can't seem to find it. I have UCR411's and UCR201's - which would be better to use for a camera hop? I *think* I should be using the 201's because the 411's will be able to handle having the transmitters closer to them in the bag than the 201's would. Is that the right thinking? *edit* fixed a typo. Using 411's, not 401's

Does anyone know anything about these little mixers? I ran a quick search but found nothing here. I've used the AD146 which was not bad and had decent sound, wondering what the sound quality is comparable with from the AD260. Only other field mixers I've personally used have been Sound Devices 302, 442, and 552. I've heard that the Coopers are amazing but haven't personally used them. If it helps, I'm looking to get a mixer to do ENG stuff and hook up to my 702t. Thanks in advance!

I started this project last year with some spare parts and cannibalized connectors. Finally, I got around to making something more robust and more importantly, better looking Let me know what you think.

I've scoured the Lectro site for this information, but can't find it, plus I'm in a hotel room somewhere horrible with very slow WiFi, so my browsing isn't that effective, so thought I'd ask here for help with a specific problem..... My cameraman is paranoid that my hirose cables will make something go pop on his camera, it's happened once before, and he doesn't want it happening again! So I need to power my hop receiver froms 9V power if possible, he also doesn't want the weight of two 411's on the camera, leaving me with my SRa, which I do have an adaptor to use a single 9V cell with, so has anyone used this set up? We're just about to start and I don't have time t…

Hello everybody Firstly I'd like to thank, independently of the possible discussion/suggestions related to this thread, all of the professionals that have shared their valuable knowledge on this forum. I can assure you that after reading many related threads in image/video-based forums, i am truly glad to come across a sound-oriented forum such as this one, with tons of useful information. I also have to mention that I have already more than a few threads related to this issue here at jwsound and I'm familiar with the opinion of many on the subject. A bit about myself.. Up until a couple of years ago, i have mostly worked in music production, specifically OST's on …

Hey guys I know there is a similar forum on here about this and I read it and I made a suitable cable. My question is how do I make the mono feed go to both channels? I am taking audio from the comtek and feeding it to alexa 5 pin connector. I currently have ground and left(-) tied to the S (sleeve) and left(+) tied to tip on the mono 1/8th inch connector. If i wanted to feed left and right channels would I just tie the L(-) and L(+) to the R(-) and L(-)? Any guidance you can give me on this would be great. I am working off the assumption that the alexa input is 1 gnd 2 L+ 3 L- 4 R+ 5 R- I currently have it going to a mono (TS) connector. 1&…

Hi, I'm looking for a suitable cart to transport my camera gear to and from my van. Local camera rental companies almost excusively use Magliner carts. I haven't seen a single Rock'n'Roller cart here. What kind of experiences do you guys have from using Magliner carts as a follow cart or just simply moving Pelican cases around? The reason I'm hesitating is that the Gemini jr. costs 560 euros + VAT here (about 875 USD taxes included). It's quite alot for just an equipment cart. Any less expensive but still durable options available? -Tapio

Hi everyone, I've just tried my new oktava's mk 012 in the shoot of a documentary. Although I was very pleased with the sound sometimes I had problems with rf interference on the mic. Anyone has already experienced this with oktavas? Is there a workaround solution for this. I've read somewhere else that ferrite beads attached to the cable could be a solution.

As the Nomad was created mostly with ENG/docu type jobs in mind and is mostly being used in that field judging form what owners write on JWS, I would like to give a short review on my experiences with it on a fiction/drama show. I stepped in for another mixer who couldn't make the first week of her shoot, and since I had my Nomad with me working fine I decided to give it a try. I would have liked to use it with the Mix-8 but that functionality is not working yet, so I decided to mix on the Nomad's rotary faders which is certainly not ideal, but bearable for four days. Last year I did the same with a 788/CL8 combo and there were no complaints. The technical setup…

Awesome product and I am totally satisfies with mine but... Users please be carful when plugging USB cables/ devices into the unit. While in the darkness I reached for my Middle Atlantic USB light so I could plug it into the BDSv4u, and then no longer be in the darkness. Well as Murphy's law likes to always have it's effect on me, I bent one if the pins inside the USB port. The light wouldn't go in all the way. I then had to roll and think about it later. Well, suddenly my NP batteries were dying after less than an hour of use. (previous to the bending of the USB pins I was getting almost 3 hrs of use with a Deva V, 4 Lectrosonics 411As, and a Lectrosonics IFB T4). …

Just had one of those "winning the lottery" experiences. My early model LM block 21 Tx had stopped working; powered up then shut down. Panavision (John Barrys) is the agent here in Sydney. Dropped it off two weeks ago and was told it may have to go to US. Got a call yesterday to say it was ready. When I picked it up today I was very surprised to receive a brand new unit AT NO CHARGE! Covered under extended warranty as it had been repaired before. Cheers to Lectro service and cheers to John Barry's for doing it without even freight charge!

If you have had problems updating your QRX option board from the TRX there is new software available. TRX version 730F has been posted on the Zaxcom user forum. If you install this new software in your TRX your should have no problem updating your option board software now.

Does anyone have some photos and information regarding the usefulness of a few of these Zaxcom accessories? -Filter Dipole Antenna for a 900aa with stereo adapter (does it help? Is it worth the money? What does it look like?) - Belt Clip for Belt-Pack style transmitters (Is this simply a replacement wire piece that fits on a 900lt or is this something different?) -2.4ghz Directional Antenna -2.4ghz Omnidirectional antenna Any words of wisdom on a MicPlexer versus a different antenna distribution system? I have been eyeing up the new PSC RF SMA unit but haven't seen a price on it yet. I would personally love to A/B the MicPlexer with the PSC unit …

So I went and bought a QRX100 to use as a wireless camera link. I powered it from Sony NP-F battery and an Ikan sled. The very first day shooting exterior in cold weather the unit stopped passing audio after about 3 hours. The lights and display were still on but the QRX was unresponsive. Unplugging and replugging the battery fixed that, but now I was nervous. The same problem got worse all day and by the afternoon I went back to feeding the camera by cable which was difficult because we were downhill skiing! After the day was done I got back to the hotel to try and do some troubleshooting only to find that my brand new QRX would not even power up. Totally dead. …

Hi guys, A friend of mine yesterday had an issue with his nagra VI. While recording , he couldn't keep on copying at the same time into the flash card( card was not full at all). He decided to keep recording on the internal hard disk. After the shooting he tried to transfer the data to a computer, but the computer didnt recognized the Nagra. No indication what so ever of a device connected to the computer. So, suddently there's an issue with the Nagra's USB. Has anybody here had the same problem before? Thank you very much, Marco

I was :20 minutes into what was going to be a very long roll and suddenly all levels and input/ output activity ceased!! I only had 4 tracks recording and was merely streaming the L and R track to camera. Once the DP became aware that he wasn't getting signal into his hops they cut and I hit stop, hoping it would "wake up" but it did not. I hit record again, just to see if there wasn't an easy fix, but I had to power cycle the 788 to get it to stream audio again. After that, we rolled for three hours straight, with no issues at all. I opened up the front of my Petrol bag, just in case it was heat related, but that didn't really make sense to me. The only thi…
