At the moment I'm looking at pricing up some packages for quite a long term international documentary job covering events in North and South America (Florida and Sao Paulo look likely), Europe (France, and at least one other) and Asia (possibly China and Japan). Ideally we're looking at buying rather than renting. Because of the uncertainty of locations I'm wondering whether I'll have to use a wide band wireless system or not (I think the only options are Wisycom and Sennheiser 3000 / 5000). I'd ideally like to use a Zaxcom system as a camera hop to reduce the number of transmitters/receivers, but this may not be feasible as I'll be restricted to one …

Hey All, This is directed more towards Larry. And Yes I did try sending him a private message. I phoned Lectrosonics in canada and the factory. I just bought a used D4r and D4t. I thought a few months ago it was discussed that new antennas would be coming out soon? No one I talked to seemed to know what I was talking about. They said there are no new antennas. I'd like to know what is going on because I really hate those antennas.

Hey All, Having an issue with poweing up my Fusion. Everything was working fine, but then all of a sudden the internal NP1 stopped working at all, though I can still power through the external power input. Is this a problem that any of you have come across? Its after hours, so I'll try Zaxcom tomorrow, but If there's anything I should try, I'd love to hear it. E.

I've got a hang-up about mechanisms that are over-lubricated, or unnecessarily lubricated. Oil and grease is messy and can be problematic with gear like this. I have some Ambient Quickloks, and they're a double whammy: mine are both saturated with thin oil that keeps migrating out and overly packed with what appears to be white lithium grease. It was my intention to dismantle them, thoroughly clean them, and then reassemble with minimal or (pending an experiment) no lubrication. However, I didn't get very far... I removed the set screw that is used to damage any 3/8-16 stud. Er, I mean secure the Quicklok onto a boom pole or other item. With that removed, the …

Just recieved my Zoom H-4 Recorder today, and it seems to suit my needs for transcription very well. The only thing that bugs me is that there is no way to pause the recording process that I know of. Doe anybody who has used it know of a way ?

I have a shoot coming up this wendesday using the Red EPIC. I was wondering if people have had experience with these cameras yet? Any thing I need to watch out for? According to the red website the epic has for audio: 2 channel, uncompressed, 24 bit, 48KHz. Optional 4 channel, and AES / EBU digital audio. I can't seem to find a user manual for download, so I haven't been able to figure out what the input connectors are. From looking at the 360 degree view on the website, it looks like the audio inputs are 1/8" trs connectors, is that true? They also say "mic input", so does this camera have line level inputs? How about the AES inputs? I don't see them …

Hey folks, Some time back, I made the mistake of purchasing a pair of Lectrosonic LMa/UCR 100's. I wasn't happy with the sound, and rarely took them out. Now, as I'm gearing up for this film, I'm wondering if I can make some kind of Comtek system out of them for my clients. Could that work? Rachel

I still work with this camera pretty regularly, and now that I've added some Zaxcom hops to my arsenal, I'm trying to figure out a good way to mount the receiver. Anyone discovered any good tricks? I have some BEC boxes w/plates for regular broadcast type cameras. And I've managed to velcro some of the G2 camera shoe plates to them - but of course, this won't work if they are using the hot shoe for anything. -Greg-

I've been using K-tek for some time now, but wanted to know of any other boom poles that would be able to extend 12ft. and over, be lightweight and have low/no noise with an internal coiled cable. Any suggestions? Thanks, Steve

For anyone who has a Rode Lav, they are now coming out with a rode vampire clip. These may also work better than the sanken vampire clips and could maybe be used with sanken's that are similar in size. I have attached the images. Im going to call around and see when the date they are projecting for them to be released. http://rodemic.com/accessories/vampire_clip Also rode has a new website.

I'm looking to add a mic to my kit that I will use primarily for sit down interviews. I plan on renting/demoing a few this week for a number of interview shoots in mostly quiet and controlled environments. I plan on auditioning a Schoeps MK41, but would like other suggestions as well. I know this has been discussed before, but I had trouble finding the threads. Thanks. Marc

Last minute job in Bulgaria and no time to rent specifics, so I'm travelling with UK channel 69 and 38 radios. Anyone used them there with any success or trouble? Thank you. Damien

I discovered a great feature of the 788t when I was testing an ifb today. I have one of my outputs for my utility PL routed to x2 mix with all inputs including mine set on postfade. I was playing back the L mix track and not hearing anything in the ifb. I realized that if I want video village to only hear the live mix, and nor hear the playback, all I need to do is re-route the output going to the comtek xmitter to an output (like x1) . This is very useful if you have to review your tracks regularly. Just FYI

Hi, I'll be coming to both New York and Los Angeles to film two episodes of a documentary series (for Finnish television) and I was wondering if I could use my 31 block radios there? I have a Lectro SRa receiver in my camera slot in block 24, which propably should be ok? But I might also need two extra wireless mics and those sets are in block 31. I also have acces to block 33 Lectro 500's but no other blocks. Any chance of survival? And Senator, I'm already aware that "it depends". Real world expieriences regarding those blocks would be great!

I'm working a reality show and we had three 788T's w/ CL-8 all in bags with six UCR411a's in each bag. Each bag has BDS w/ two NP-1's. I'd say that's a pretty good load in a bag.. Now that the show got picked up, we have Cantar X2's replacing SD, and two more UCR's for each bag. I'm a smaller framed guy and this is a motherload in a bag for me, even using my Versaflex harness. I'm wondering if the Cantar upgrade was worth it since we're just running 8x 411's in every bag(wireless boom w/416's). It wasn't my first time working with the Cantar, but my first time working with it in a bag. I must say I think it's just a bit too big for me to feel comfortab…

Hi, Wondering if anyone here knows (or can check with a video assist guy) about streaming a video assist feed. It doesn't need to be better than Skype or video conference. Producers in writers' office want to be able to see costumes/hair/etc. Don't need a smooth stream all the time. Looking for a box that'll accept NTSC composite video in (and audio too) with 3G service.

sitting here playing around with a Lectro 411 and a Sound Devices 552 mixer. (both new to me) Mixer is set for mic level input. Lectro 411 has output settings from -50 to +5 dp. Is there a recomended output selection on the 411 that works best with a mic input selection on a 552? Or have mixer set for line level input and have output level of 411 set a +4db ? Thanks

This is a little video I worked on 2 weeks ago...CS3e-302-Edirol R-09, shot on 5D, synced with handclaps I think it sounds pretty good considering we submitted the raw files to the editor on Thursday morning and had the final cut on Friday morning. http://www.b-insider.com/2011/topshop-topman-the-launch/

Anyone got a couple of these they want to get rid of? I've tried some (not all!) dealers and they're not so easy to find. If anyone has any they're not using I'd be happy to pay a fair price for them.

Hey guys, I've landed my first movie and I'm pretty excited. I'm now in need of a duplex cable and wanted to know what suggestions/experiences you all may have with the different available models. The PSC? The Remote Audio? Problems? Ease of use for the boom operator? Durablity? Noise? I read up a little here and there, looking for a previous thread..but didn't see much. And I'd never try to manufacture one like Jeff did, so don't suggest that. Rachel

hey guys, so i bought a cl-wifi when it first came out with the hopes of running it as an eternal metering system and information view for my machine. the wi-fi lag is proving to be kind of annoying and since i don't have or want an ipad, i'm stuck using my cellphone as my meter. does anyone know if sound devices plans on just making an external meter/screen for the 788 that would just plug right into the machine, no idevice required? maybe some bindable buttons on the side? you know, like this thing: http://www.sounddevices.com/products/pix.htm thanks, joe
