Have recently purchased a TRX 900 with STA 150 attached for a stereo camera hop. It also has the IFB and internal recorder options. The IFB is really important to me because I want to hear what's going on at the camera. Problem is this: Periodically the TRX just doesn't boot. Usually cycling the external power just once will cause it to boot. Have tried all cabling and connections for intermittent faults. None. Battery capacity doesn't seem to be an issue because once up the transmitter happily runs for another 3-4 hours on the same battery. (Also found that it happens using internal powering.) A few days ago we were about to shoot a sequence that could neithe…

Greetings everyone, Now that I've got some ways on my current sound cart build, I'll share some photos. I've been using a Jr Magliner for years and I love the set up, but it is very difficult to load and unload into my Van. The current set up was having to 'build' the cart every time, and it was starting to get old and cumbersome. So, here was my idea.. Pretty simple. Just strap on an SKB box, to a set of wheels. Based similar to the Chinhda design as a upright, it would easier to load into a truck. Simply just lay it down on the skate wheels, then pick up the bottom, lift, and roll it in like a casket. First step, buy a the SKB 16U rack. And,…

I use rechargeable batteries in everything but the once or twice a year I have to power my ENG receiver from AA. What kind of run time should i expect out of some powerex 2700 batteries? Does everyone using them find them reliable in the unit?

I have 2 Lectrosoncis UCR 401(blk 26 and 27) and a Zaxcom TRX900s [edit: Block 25] in my bag. When I do a frequency scan with the TRX900s off, there are very little RF activity, but when the TRX 900s is turned on, there are RF activities through out the spectrum of both UCR 401s which reduced my range greatly. I am using a UM 400 with the blk 26 and a UH400 for the blk 27. I experience occasional dropout on the UM when the talent moves around. Question: 1) Should I stop using the Zaxcom together with the Lectrosonics? 2) Where should I best position my TRX900s? 3) Should I use a high powered transmitter, ie UM 450 or SQMa minimize the problem? …

Hi guys! I'll be doing production sound for a feature this summer in France and have received a technical requirement list from the production and am trying to figure out my best option. I'll be recording to my Sound Devices 744T and sending a guidetrack from it to the camera. I have my boom mics and that side covered but what I don't have is any kind of radio mics. The production have asked for two radio mic kits and have also asked me to find out a good yet decently priced video transmitor to send the camera signal to an external monitor. They have $1000 at my disposal to buy or hire the two radio mic kits. This is not much so buying two sets of high end kit…

Sorry if this is widely known, but I've only just learned about this. Waterproof VT500 lav. This could have been a good mic to have when I was working outdoors in Ireland. To say that conditions there were "slighty damp" at times is a huge understatement! http://www.voicetechnologies.net/pdf/vt500water.pdf

is there a software driven feature in the Fusion to link 2ch and code them from MS to LR-Stereo? Or do I have to build my own matrix? With SD one can select "link input 1&2 + MS". Best Matthias

Hey all, First post here. Been lurking for awhile and it's a great forum to be sure! I have a quick question. Tomorrow I have a fairly simple gig (yeah I really shouldn't think like that), one actor in front of a green screen. Boom + lav through my 302 to an EX1. I was just wondering if anyone was familiar with the EX1 audio features, does it have a numbered audio meter on the screen so I could calibrate it easily? Or does it simply have those blocks of which you have to know which level is each block? If so, might someone have any info on how it goes? edit: I did look at the PDF manual for the EX1 but either wasn't looking hard enough or didn't find wha…

I've recently purchased an old Micron VHF transmitter and 2 receivers, which I'm using as an IEM system. I've spoken with Tanky at Micron and he's managed to get the pin wiring for the transmitter but hasn't had any luck with the receivers yet Do any of you know the pin wiring for the SR120.1 and the SR620.3? Thanks in advance. Ross

I recently started using a new 12 V battery. The brand is Shorai. This little battery is a LFX14A2-BS12. It's a lithium Iron battery, it has 14 amp hours and weighs about 18 ounces. I was amazed at the performance & weight of this thing, so far it's been great running several pieces of gear. The light weight is why I purchased it. Has anyone used these?? I was carrying / using 4-6 sealed lead acid batteries that are NP-1 - 1.2 Ah that weigh about 18 Oz each. PROS: I dropped about 4 pounds out of the bag and have longer run times CONS: MSRP is about $129.00 each http://www.shoraipow...-batteries.aspx

Hi Guys, Have had a search around but cant find much about this. I am starting a shoot in a few weeks with two F3's filming around France and Scotland. The main sound will be recorded on one F3 via a Zaxcom QRX100, with the second camera getting a guide feed from an ERX1TC. This will be the first time I've worked with the QRX so just wanted to check if there is anything I should look out for with this setup? I have requested that the shoulder mount for the camera includes a V-Lock battery with power output, and I was planning on mounting the QRX using this: http://www.rycote.com/products/wireless_receiver_camera_bracket/ but will have a better idea of mounting after…

In terms of files... I'm quite new to the world of multi-track location recorders, having in the past only ever recorded direct to camera, however, more recently I have been doing a few more gigs where 744's have been required, and I'm currently on an 11 week job using a 788/CL8. So of course now the choice of which recorder to buy has presented itself, and my question is, in terms of post and post workflow, would there be any difference between handing in a card that has been recorded on a 788 or one recorded on a Nomad? How about the metadata etc? If I was on a gig where every soundo was using a 788 and I showed up with a Nomad, would post be able to tell the …

As I'll be in the market for a multi-track recorder very soon (amongst oodles of other gear - its shopping time!) I've been casting an eye over this chap. The price point for what's on offer seems very good - especially when teamed with the fader panel, but I wondered if there are any of you out there with the gritty user info? Kind regards James

I saw some postings on this Mic and was impressed. Now it uses the same concept as the nueman binaural heads but is less in price. The pro model runs about 1000, while the "indie" is like 700. I would consider the pro for doing sound design projects where the ambience is key. The indie looks like it does not have the xlr outputs. The video below has a code to have a 15% filmmakers discount on it. Plus it is Including a full version license of Waves UM226, a $200 value, for creating 5.1 surround sound track from 3D Mic Pro recording. http://www.3dmicpro....o/dp/B004VQ9N8E For sound design its something to consider for the price.

Hi, I am having difficulty updating the ERX1 receivers. The ERX1 never receives the right amount of segments from the IFB100. It cycles through multiple times trying again without success. Any tips? vins

Hey all, In the market for some electrical grease for cleaning and lubricating purposes. What does everyone use? What's good and what's good enough? I'd like to get something that preferably doesn't leave a residue. Thanks! JB

Ive mainly been a reality mixer for the past year and a half now. So my CMIT 5U has been in its wooden case that's in a pelican at my apartment since i mainly use my Senn. MKH 416 for run in gun type of shooting. So I got a call for a short and I wanted to do it because I really rather do narrative work. But work is work. First scene of the day was a 2 people talking in a kitchen, so I decided to use my cmit 5u since they where starting with a wide. My mic was about a foot 18inch away and it sounded off axes. I was puzzled because I know for a fact I was right on the subject. On the second take it happened again. It sounded real boomy and I started to get…

Robert Kennedy at Coffey Sound showed me a Remote Audio custom Deva analog output cable made for one of his clients. It's well constructed, only about two feet long and with about a 6 inch fan out of the individual XLR cables, all with numbered color rings. I ordered one so I could finally retire my original Deva cable, which was a cumbersome three feet long confusion of six individual cables. All of us who own them have found ways to use cable ties and rip ties to tame the beast. We also resorted to getting thumb screws for the DB25 pin connector. Now it's in my kit sleeping soundly, only as a back up. I won't miss it a bit. My attached photo shows the obviou…

I have a 16 ft K-Tek that I just re cabled with rf shielded straight cable but I need a longer pole for outdoors work. K-Tek is not an option for me because all their longer poles are like a floppy noodle at full extension. I am having a serious dilemma between loon, ambient and panamic boom poles. Is there anyone in the Atlanta area that has a loon that I can put my hands on? Also with loons restructuring and becoming stable again I like the idea of having my boom pole manufacturer stateside instead of in Germany(ambient) or England(panamic), how big of an advantage is this? Finally I'd be interested in other people's opinions on poles in general especially the wei…

Hi Fellow Soundies, I am looking to add a microphone to my growing collection and would appreciate some advice. I am looking for a mic to be used specifically for interviews in noisy locations. The mic may end up on a mic stand or on the end of a boom pole, but always out of frame and will be used in situations where my trusted Neumann KMR81 does not reject enough of the ambient noise. Examples of the types of very noisy locations where I have been recently include a gold mine with lots of machinery, several construction sites and a beach with crashing waves. Often a well placed lavalier does the trick but I would like to have two clean tracks of audio. …

I lost my Lectrosonics dweedle tone remote (RM2) for the SM series transmitters about a month ago. During these 2 months, I've been pondering why we couldn't just record the tones and play them back via our iphones. The reason I lost the rm2 was that it kept going off at unwanted times no matter where I kept it. This wouldn't be a problem with an iphone. Well, Ambient tapped my thoughts (must wear foil cap) and released Lectromote app for the iphone. Sadly, there is no transmitter gain, just lock, unlock, sleep, and unsleep. Almost a perfect solution. HEY LECTRO! MAKE YOUR OWN APP AND INCLUDE ALL THE TONES!! http://www.ambient.de/index_e.html
