Hello all, They are building a new camera truck for my next show, and they asked how long my follow is. Mine's a little shorter than most, so I said I'd check in and ask you guys. They are looking for a good location for the first vertical post from the back. Currently they are thinking 5ft. Thanks, Robert

I just stumbled upon these: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/594448-REG/Lectrosonics_UCR100LMA_21_100_Series_Wireless.html thought they were discountinued but they seem to be in stock there. The usual dealer suspects in Germany/Europe don't seem to offer them, though. Anyone happen to know if they're available anywhere in Europe, and if so, where?

I want to add a hypercardiod mic to my kit for recording dialogue in interiors (and perhaps in some outdoor conditions as well). I will sometimes be booming this mic and other times I will be putting it on a stand. I understand the philosophy of buy a good quality/performance mic the first time around so to save money (and gain performance) in the long run. But as I've recently purchased a SD302 mixer my budget is more constrained. What I would like to know is what is the cheapest good quality/performance hypercardiod? After doing some research I've narrowed my choices down to: Audio Technica AT4053b Audix SCX1 HC AKG Blue Line CK93 MBHO 603 with hyper cap …

I'm on a shoot today inside a house in pasadena. And using my mkh50 I am getting considerable rf (it is better or worse depending on orientation of mic). The odd thing is that regardless of the cable, or input on mixer or just recorder (302 and 702t) I still get equal rf. I also trekked about 30 feet down the street and same problem. So I tried to switch to my mkh 60 (only other mic I got) and I still get rf just not as present. Another weird thing is the rf has a beet or rythym to it like it was a radio station. I have never had any rf issues with either mic and having no wireless systems on I haven't the slightest idea what's going on. And it can't be th…

So, I got my new Zax hop system (TRX900aa/STA150 & QRX100) this weekend and figured out that set-up just fine and is working well (really excited about it). On the flip side though, I'm currently experimenting with a secondary use for the QRX as another Rx for the cart as well as providing an IFB Tx (Zaxnet) control for the TRX900aa and future Zax Tx's. The part I'm getting stuck on so far is figuring out how to control the TRX's gain using my Mix 8. I've been following this really great instruction list I happen to find online. Secondly, I've been told that the IFB part of the QRX100 is "nearly" the same as the IFB100 unit (minus ~50mW), but I'm also wo…

Today, on a job fraught with strange problems, here's a new one for me. In a high-rise office building in downtown San Francisco location, a hardwired COS-11 powered by an Ambient Eumel from my SD 552 began picking up music from some local radio broadcast. Lite rock, I believe. After letting other members of the crew listen to confirm I wasn't crazy, I quickly swapped out the COS-11 with another COS-11 and the problem disappeared. Can anyone tell me what may have caused this and how to remedy it in the future? Thanks! Dave Wendlinger San Francisco, CA

I will be purchasing the Nomad 6 as soon as I can but I'd like to know more about how Zaxnet works. I've found a few videos on line but no manual. Specifically, can it be used to provide cans to the director/scripty etc without purchasing the ERX1? Any 2.4 GHz headsets out there? Any links would be appreciated.

I'm off on a job to Panama and Chile and was wondering if anyone can help me on what radio mic frequencies will work okay in these countries? As of yet I have not been given details of areas I will be filming in though I do know that I will be filming along the site of the new Panama Canal. I currently have Audio 2020 radios running on ch69 and a couple of old Audio diversity 2000s running on vhf arrant the 200meg mark, does anyone know if these will do the job? Many thanks

Hi guys and gals, First time poster, sporadic reader here (trying to read more and more all the time). I was working an EPK yesterday and encountered a strange buzz I imagine was picked up by my shotgun. I was on my 3rd interview of the day - just the one subject each time who had been lav'd and boomed - and because of shadows had to scoop with the boom. The subject was sitting in a chair outside, and his chair was directly over a huge AC run the production was using. A couple of times I picked up a really strange buzz that went away when I adjusted the position of my boom slightly. I've never encountered this before and am a little concerned as I bought …

Does anyone know is the only difference between the Deca Eargonizer and the classic blue is the exterior color? Are all the dimensions the same?

http://www.fostexinternational.com/docs/products/FM-4.shtml#2 Looks like this is finally available. Anyone used it yet? I'd like to hear how it stands up against Sound Devices, SQN and other ENG mixers.

I recently had a job where I was going to hire a Sound Devices 788 as I needed to do an eight track record. As my own recorder is a 744 I thought I would go to the hire shop several days early to prep a 788 and test out the AES3 output from my Yamaha 01V96 via the MY8-AE96 Mini YGDAI Card on the D Sub 25 pin plug. In order to input the 788 via AES3 I bought a Sound Devices XL-88 break out cable. The only problem I had was with AES3 channels 3 & 4. Each input on the 788 was patched input 1 to track 1, input 2 to track 2, input 3 to track 3, input 4 to track 4, input 5 to track 5, input 6 to track 6, input 7 to track 7 and input 8 to track 8. Each input on the 788 was a…

We have seen the 552, USB Pre and Mix Pre redux in the past few years. I am hoping that Sound Devices is planning a 302 redux in the near future. What (realistic) upgrades would you like to see? I would like to see an onboard 2 track recorder like the 552 and meters with more resolution at the top end.

I was having a weird and very intermittent problem with my Deva/Mix 12 combo. On very rare occasions a mic would self fade (by very rare I mean once a month). I wasn't sure if it was the Deva, the Mix 12, the 992 or possibly the Mixer-Deva cable. But it happened so rarely it was hard to diagnose. The past couple of weeks it started to happen more until finally my system died just before a take on a night shoot (the Mix 12 and Deva both froze). Fortunately all my mics were on recording radios so I yelled speed anyway. After the take I did a few power resets, got everything up and running, and used Zaxnet to re-mix the missing take. When we finished the setup I …

I've been happily charging my GlobalMediaPro NP1 batteries on my IDX charger with minimal modification to the charger, as discussed in another thread. Things aren't so easy with the Swit batteries that arrived here about an hour ago. The pin layout is different, but more simple than the GMP or IDX one's but with a key difference, the pin on the GMP and IDX batts, labelled 'S' is missing on the Swit, (it's the pin that carries the +ve voltage on the charger, and yes I have tried swapping the +ve and S pins round) Aside from the +ve, -ve and thermistor pins, this is the only one actually used on the IDX charger, so I'm assuming I need to work out where to short…

Buenos Morning, On an upcoming instructional video shoot, I've been asked to lav the commentator due to their concept of "perspectival convention" for their shoots, and boom athletes on a mat demonstrating cheerleading moves without dialogue. They havent decided on whether the shoot will be EXT on the football field (with one side bounded by moderate traffic), or INT in the gym, and my question is how the lack of dialogue would affect (if at all) the mic selection on your boom. Would the only criterion be the selection of INT over EXT? Mindfully and humbly appreciative for your time, Steven

Here's an interesting (to me) problem that finally seemed to have a simple cause. I've reordered the history so the oldest email is at the top. An interesting conclusion is that there is a need for a lighter solution than using 2 x 150 foot runs of Belden 9913F which would weigh 15 lbs for each run and is bulky when rolled up. If this is too long, skip to the end to find out who killed Colonel Mustard in the drawing room with an RE20. ******** From: Bartek Swiatek Sent: Tuesday, June 14, 2011 10:42 AM To: Larry Fisher Subject: Switching antennas noise Hi Larry, I'm on a show in Atlanta, a very wireless heavy show, and I'm using a Vrfield with lp650's. …

Hello, I use Audio Ltd. Wireless in the US. I remember a while ago I stumbled across a couple Film/TV sound equipment websites based in England. In their used section they had alot of Audio Ltd. stuff. I've since lost the link. Anyone know any sites based in England that would have what I'm looking for? Thanks

http://www.equatoraudio.com/D_Series_Studio_Monitors_s/43.htm I thought these looked like really interesting compact monitors for field use and have an optional soft bag. Equator audio is Ted Keffalo's new company and I always loved his dual concentric phase coherent designs in the form of the old KEF reference monitors for hi-fi. At $299 per pair, they seem to represent a tremendous value, was thinking of picking up a pair for myself at some point.

Hey everyone, I wanted to see what people are using as their IFB headsets. I've seen panasonic RP-HT21 headsets up to sony mdr-v150s. What is a good sounding headset, that is durable, portable and reasonably priced? Cheers!
