http://www.fostexinternational.com/docs/products/FM-4.shtml#2 Looks like this is finally available. Anyone used it yet? I'd like to hear how it stands up against Sound Devices, SQN and other ENG mixers.

Here it is folks, the ULTIMATE DSLR camera rig. http://vimeo.com/25465542 Sadly, I think I've shot with rigs that looked like that.

I recently had a job where I was going to hire a Sound Devices 788 as I needed to do an eight track record. As my own recorder is a 744 I thought I would go to the hire shop several days early to prep a 788 and test out the AES3 output from my Yamaha 01V96 via the MY8-AE96 Mini YGDAI Card on the D Sub 25 pin plug. In order to input the 788 via AES3 I bought a Sound Devices XL-88 break out cable. The only problem I had was with AES3 channels 3 & 4. Each input on the 788 was patched input 1 to track 1, input 2 to track 2, input 3 to track 3, input 4 to track 4, input 5 to track 5, input 6 to track 6, input 7 to track 7 and input 8 to track 8. Each input on the 788 was a…

We have seen the 552, USB Pre and Mix Pre redux in the past few years. I am hoping that Sound Devices is planning a 302 redux in the near future. What (realistic) upgrades would you like to see? I would like to see an onboard 2 track recorder like the 552 and meters with more resolution at the top end.

I was having a weird and very intermittent problem with my Deva/Mix 12 combo. On very rare occasions a mic would self fade (by very rare I mean once a month). I wasn't sure if it was the Deva, the Mix 12, the 992 or possibly the Mixer-Deva cable. But it happened so rarely it was hard to diagnose. The past couple of weeks it started to happen more until finally my system died just before a take on a night shoot (the Mix 12 and Deva both froze). Fortunately all my mics were on recording radios so I yelled speed anyway. After the take I did a few power resets, got everything up and running, and used Zaxnet to re-mix the missing take. When we finished the setup I …

I've been happily charging my GlobalMediaPro NP1 batteries on my IDX charger with minimal modification to the charger, as discussed in another thread. Things aren't so easy with the Swit batteries that arrived here about an hour ago. The pin layout is different, but more simple than the GMP or IDX one's but with a key difference, the pin on the GMP and IDX batts, labelled 'S' is missing on the Swit, (it's the pin that carries the +ve voltage on the charger, and yes I have tried swapping the +ve and S pins round) Aside from the +ve, -ve and thermistor pins, this is the only one actually used on the IDX charger, so I'm assuming I need to work out where to short…

Buenos Morning, On an upcoming instructional video shoot, I've been asked to lav the commentator due to their concept of "perspectival convention" for their shoots, and boom athletes on a mat demonstrating cheerleading moves without dialogue. They havent decided on whether the shoot will be EXT on the football field (with one side bounded by moderate traffic), or INT in the gym, and my question is how the lack of dialogue would affect (if at all) the mic selection on your boom. Would the only criterion be the selection of INT over EXT? Mindfully and humbly appreciative for your time, Steven

Here's an interesting (to me) problem that finally seemed to have a simple cause. I've reordered the history so the oldest email is at the top. An interesting conclusion is that there is a need for a lighter solution than using 2 x 150 foot runs of Belden 9913F which would weigh 15 lbs for each run and is bulky when rolled up. If this is too long, skip to the end to find out who killed Colonel Mustard in the drawing room with an RE20. ******** From: Bartek Swiatek Sent: Tuesday, June 14, 2011 10:42 AM To: Larry Fisher Subject: Switching antennas noise Hi Larry, I'm on a show in Atlanta, a very wireless heavy show, and I'm using a Vrfield with lp650's. …

Hello, I use Audio Ltd. Wireless in the US. I remember a while ago I stumbled across a couple Film/TV sound equipment websites based in England. In their used section they had alot of Audio Ltd. stuff. I've since lost the link. Anyone know any sites based in England that would have what I'm looking for? Thanks

http://www.equatoraudio.com/D_Series_Studio_Monitors_s/43.htm I thought these looked like really interesting compact monitors for field use and have an optional soft bag. Equator audio is Ted Keffalo's new company and I always loved his dual concentric phase coherent designs in the form of the old KEF reference monitors for hi-fi. At $299 per pair, they seem to represent a tremendous value, was thinking of picking up a pair for myself at some point.

Hey everyone, I wanted to see what people are using as their IFB headsets. I've seen panasonic RP-HT21 headsets up to sony mdr-v150s. What is a good sounding headset, that is durable, portable and reasonably priced? Cheers!

I need a TC cable with 5pin Lemo -> BNC to get code in and out of video cameras for jams to/from my Deva or SD machines. Has anyone tried wiring a cable with the + wire going to both TC IN AND OUT pins so that it will work either way? It's just for jams, not continuous feeds.

I have about 12 prototype thumbscrews for all the SM series belt clips. It is a small disc with an Allen setscrew embedded in it to replace the current Allen setscrew and wrench setup. The prototype can be tightened and loosened with just your fingers making it easy to add or remove the belt clip. I can't find the original thread where I said we'd take a look at this. Anyhoo, the first 10 readers that send me a mailing address will get a prototype to play with. They are not anodized and pretty but they work well. Best, Larry F Lectro larryf@lectrosonics.com

I am using an SKP 2000 plug on transmitter by Sennheiser for sending a CMIT's signal via a Sennheiser EK 100 G3 diversity receiver to a 788T. Now on some locations I hear this very high frequency noise on that channel, a bit like a feedback sound, a tone (not continouos) at about 12-15 kHz I guess, sometimes stronger, sometimes weaker. It's usually only really audible on quiet passages, and of course it won't be too hard for post to eq it out, but I am clueless as to where it comes from, so I'd like to see if someone else has had this problem and maybe knows what to do about it. I have tried everything I could think of, changed frequencies, switched pilot tone on and off,…

Hi , I am looking for opinion on a better antenna setup for my zax wireless system . I have a 4900 and 2 x rx900s and a soon to be added qrx100 . At present I have a pair of lectro shark fins and a pair of lectro dipoles . Mounted on a T bar . (I would attach a photo but I am writing from an iPad and it's that old flash 9 problem , damn Apple - sometimes) I started using a 4 way splitter from lectro to run the 4900 and 2 x rx900s off the shark fins but lost too much gain . I then went with the 4900 on the shark fins and the rx900s through a dual RF splitter which works ok but what about the qrx100?? When it comes along . Do I go with an active RF amp or will…

So, I was testing out some footage from a recent shoot that I ended up using my lock box with a RED. The RED user is a friend of mine that lives down the street so I asked him to give me the first and last shots so I could test the sync from my off camera sound (Fusion) and the lock box attached to the RED. First shot sync'd perfectly.. yay... last shot... off by 71 seconds. The RED TC was behind 71 secs that is. So, did another test here at home by clocking the lock box to the Fusion again.. then outputting the TC back into the Fusion so I could see the two TC clocks to compare... Generator (Fusion), and Reader (Lock Box). After just under 2 hours, the Lock…

I tried searching but wasn't able to find anything- probably because it's not suggested! But I thought I'd ask anyway. I'm heading on a back packing trip and planning on doing a bit of documenting while there and we're trying to keep everything as light as possible. Instead of taking my AKG K271s, I was hoping there would be a more portable option that could save me some space... Maybe even a pair of over the ear headphones that fold up nicely, or in ear headphones that can give me an accurate picture of what I'm booming and hopefully cut out noise. Any suggestions? Thanks guys

Hi everybody, I am going for Octopack , and the question is what type of antenna will give me a very solid reach on set. I am thinking to go for PWS HA-8089. Is it better if it is combination of two different types ? Any experience ? Thank you Best Novica Jankov

I'm working with a fairly experienced actress and she asked if I had a tube that would go down her pants to drop the wire down her ankle. I've never heard such a thing, can't find it in the forums or on any sound site. I've scene the weight that attaches to the end of a TA5. She mentioned its for curtains. a google shows only metal rods, which I can't imagine putting down someones pants.

Hey All, I'm planning on becoming a owner of a pair of CMC 6 or 5 mic's and will probably buy the MK41 capsules for sure. Because of the Docs and ad-libbed narrative work I do, I wanted to see what other capsules are being used. From my research I'm leaning towards the MK4 or MK22 for their wider patterns, any preferences?
