Hi all, Wondering if any of you have real-world experience with and can comment on these DPA lav windscreens: http://www.dpamicrophones.com/en/products.aspx?c=Item&category=143&item=24214 http://www.dpamicrophones.com/en/products.aspx?c=Item&category=143&item=24224 Wondering if they work well for actual wind or if they are just suitable for breath pops and such. The only prefabricated lav windscreen I have ever found to be effective is the one for the Sanken COS-11 -- wondering how these hold up by comparison for the DPAs. Thanks if you can help!

I like the way Remote Audio is thinking here. The D6 is a passive attenuator to manage the analog output gain of Deva IV, Deva 5, Deva 5.8, Deva 16, Fusion 10 & 12. Just for information; I have sent an email to Glen Trew to see if they would also provide a short DB25 extension cable so the unit will be easier to operate in a bag. The unit sticking out the side of a bag could pose a problem. Here is some info from their user guide: Connecting the D6 The D6 mounts to the Deva/Fusion via a right-angle male DB25 connector. Two thumbscrews are provided to create a secure connection. A breakout cable is then connected to the D6 via the female DB25. That cable typic…

Looking for someone who owns both. I already have BST25-216 and considering adding BST75-216 to replace my BST50b. Do the 25 and 75 perform equally, from your experience?

The September 2011 issue of "695 Quarterly" (official publication of IATSE Local 695) has an article by Jim Tanenbaum titled "Radio Mike Redux". The article is interesting, but makes two points that I think should to be corrected -- one about diversity antennas, and one about power distro filtering. From the section subtitled "Receivers": "If you are using two 1/4-wave whip antennas, simply orient one 45 degrees to the left and the other 45 degrees to the right, instead of both vertically... ...This puts the antennas at a right angle to each other, so at least one will pick up the signal strongly no matter what its polarization angle." This statement is not…

Hi Guys I'm doing a movie in August shooting on a Red Mysterium package and never having shot with anything but film I'm looking for some pointers as to how to provide audio to the camera and what frame rates, sample rates and all that jazz. Do I need a lockit box to sync time code etc? I know I could have researched all this stuff online but it's always been more fun to do here. Thanks Mick

I recorded some audio on the MicroSD/MiniSD card on my Zaxcom 900AA that I use as a camera hop a couple days ago and there is an audible clicking sound on the recording. The clicking is not present when listening to the audio passing through the 900S receiver, it is only present on the recording on the transmitter. The 900AA has a STA100 stereo adapter, recording at 23.98fps, timecode is on auto-jam, there are no issues with any of the cabling going to the transmitter, I'm using a MicroSD card into a MiniSD card adapter in the unit. I used the ZaxConvert software v6.05 and v6.09. Converted multiple times both as mono WAV files and Poly, 24 and 16 bit, forced…

Hello folks, posted this over on RAMPS but thought maybe Id get a better response on JW these days! After 5 years working here in London, UK - I'm making the move back to my Torontonian homeland in a few months. In part willingly and in a larger part due to being dragged back by my girlfriend! The main thing making me hesitant to leave is that work has been going well here, so Im just trying to find out what its like at the moment back in Toronto. Anyone living/working in Toronto on here that could give me an update on how work is in the city at the moment? Also what are average rates like there these days? Thankyou! Neil

Hey guys I''m a fairly new user to Zaxcom, and was wondering if anyone out there may have run into the same problem I am having with my RX900s. I use 2 as stereo camera hops only. For some reason one of them seemed to change it's block from 686.1 to now read c/20.4. Not quite sure on what I may have done to make this happen. As previously stated, I use them as camera hops so they are very rarely touched. The day this happen it was business as usual. I sent tone to both cameras as I do every morning before we start and everything was fine. Toward the later part of the day the cam op told me he was no longer receiving signal to his camera. I tried to get it back to it's p…

This kinda sounds like a Gear slutz "what mic to I do add to my locker" post but am going with it anyway. I'm set to do 27 day feature next month and looking to 'pre-spend' some of those checks I'm In the bay area and I mostly do ENG, docs, then 2-3 small features a year and a few shorts. The main components of my kit are my portabrace bags, small cart, 2x 201 (bk 22/25) lectros a 1xG2, 744t, 442 and 302 416, mk-012, tram, B6 mics and plently of shock mounts and wind protection. I was using the Listen tech wireless for boom op monitoring or running two cables for the boom op. I'm debating whether to get a psc duplex and a cheap monitor for frame line, or get anothe…

My boom op just let me know he purchased a new LOON as his second pole. They are in Los Angeles, and his 21' internal coil was their first build. Contact a dealer near you!

I'm currently (and have been for several years...) using an SQN 4 as my mixer, but I want a light weight solution for when I'm recording to my 744T, and don't need 4 channels on the mixer, I was thinking of getting a Mixpre-D, sticking the boom and one radio straight into the 744T and the other two radios into the Mixpre-D, anyone think of any pitfalls with this setup? It would save weight, reduce power consumption and give me more space in the bag, but what downsides am I forgetting? Thanks in advance.......

Hello folks Having a few problems trying to convert files to BWF on my Mac (OSX 10.4.11). The card appears on the desktop with the .zax files but when I 'add source folder' the files are greyed out. Files played back on TRX transmitter (at least visually - the meter bobs up and down) but I can't get my conversions off the ground. Any thoughts?

I spoke with Charlie at Denecke last week and he will be showing the new GR 2 at NAB next month. He designed it for bag use. It seems to be half the size or less than the GR-1. It runs on two AA batteries when not being powered externally via a 4 pin Hirose. Instead of buttons for operating, it has small toggle/joy stick that is recessed. Something else to put on the list to check out at NAB. Not sure of the price yet or when it will be available, but I am sure Charlie will chime in and let us know. Whit

Question: I'm trying to track down a Micron Transmitter (TX501, 211.0 MHz, 50Mw). If I'm so lucky as to find one, could anyone venture a guess on a dollar value? Thanks for your help!

Hello, some week ago I was using my qrx with ifb option in the bag receiving two talent mics, and sending ifb audio to three ERX1TCD.Suddendly both, time code and ifb audio transmission, stopped.I tried to go to the IFB home menu but it was unreadable and random black blocks and lines appeared on the display.I restarted repeatedly the unit but I found myself in the same situation, rather it got worst: the ifb menu didn't come up! I shipped the unit (from Mexico...) to Zaxcom and they shipped it back to my dealer saying that my unit didn't have anyhing wrong, but just the ifb option was turned off in the extended menu:I understand they are very busy, but... My ifb b…

Although I understand they are there for a reason- to thermo regulate, I am a bit concerned by the air vent holes on the receiver. I've just been working in a very dusty environment and fear that the boards might eventually get damaged with prolonged exposure to the elements. My next assignment is by and on the sea so my concern too is the fine sea spray that could get through and settle on the boards inside- and we know what sea spray eventually does to metal! As this is a newly designed unit, not too many people would have put it through it's paces in extreme environments but the durability and longevity of the receiver does worry me some. Any one else with similar co…

I'd like to know from those who already use the Super CMIT if there would be a big improvement over, say, a CS3e using it for backstage interviews during a show. The "bed sound" not being a continuous one (like usual room tone or cascades in a forest), would the mic offer a drastic upgrade in performance over the Sanken ?

Hi guys, I'm new and have a lot to learn. I've a job offer on the high seas for four days. I'm bit nervous: The client wants me to rent a SD 442/744T kit, slave synch four ES-1s to my time of day code master. My problem- I'm gun shy about the SD mixers and water. I've just spent 10 weeks running in all kinds of weather with [that production's] 302 and was miffed to find that ANY little water or drop of rain on the faceplate, sent the 302 into a tizzy, losing the settings (and me going to the 'penalty box' and waiting until it 'felt' better), and so forth. Is this an issue with SD mixers? I've worked around the eastern waters, from Bahamas to Maine fo…

Hi guys, I read a lot about the previous thread where there were lots of comparing between 416, sanken cs3e and 60. Lots of replies mentioned sanken cs2, which noise floor is lower than 416, it's tough in the bad environment etc. I have to admit that I am not a big fan of mkh416, because of the sensitiveness and to me the sounding is too harsh. I just came out this idea, get a sanken cs2 to replace my 416. Is that good idea? Anyone have experience of cs2? How good it is comparing with 416 Thanks in advance. Hiro

I have some long exterior walk and talks coming up on my next show. We will be in a busy downtown environment with a couple of set moves during the day. I plan on using two PWS HA-8089's with a VR Field all on block 26. How many people have used the PF 25's and with what success? As I am all on one block I'm not worried about loosing anything out side of that so the PF,s would work fine for me. Just wondering if I need them and if anybody has tried them? Thanks, Bill

Does anyone know which model is this PortaBrace bag that Mr. Ulano is using? I am looking for a BP bag for the Zaxcom Fusion, but BP doesn't seem to make one specially for Zaxcom. They make a bag for the Fostex PD6 that might fit. I like their modular design, with the receiver pouch, not the big sound organizers. Thanks, Gabi
