Just recorded a corporate gig on a moving shuttle bus, where a VIP ambushes employee-riders with Ethics Code questions in "Cash Cab" style. I hid a B6 lav on the VIP, and chose a Scheops MK41 to capture rider responses, hoping the generous angle of acceptance would add a bit of forgiveness to late boom arrivals, and multiple riders (there was a Gopro mounted at the fore and aft of the bus, plus a handeld cam operator shooting foreward from the back, and i was asked to "hide" myself and boom as well as possible in the back row, and jut my boom forward down the aisle below head level as riders answered ( who doesnt love a challenge eh?)) As expected, I was unable …

Just wondering what most people use and if there is a difference. I am a Yaggi user (that sounds a little odd" RX Anonymous" ) but you know what I mean. I cannot fault them and have had great results since I started using then .A good example would be my Boom Op 0.5 miles out at sea with me sitting on the beach with perfect reception from his radio boom.Client very surprised and happy, me and my kit dry and safe a good but to be expected day for Yaggi. I know they are big and abit ugly but that only helps to makes me look better . I might be totally wrong but this side of the pond UK I think that we are more Yaggi and the US seems to be more sharkfin. But that only comes …

Larry, Would it be possible to design a lightweight 48v power supply cable to interface between an SM or UM series transmitter and a condenser microphone for use on boom? I know that Audio Ltd. has a 48v Phantom PS cable/bracket for their transmitter on the boom. I like the idea of having a lightweight transmitter like the SM high on the pole. I thought about the UH transmitter plug, but it is heavier and I'd prefer to use one of my SM's. Any suggestions/recommendations? Thanks & Best, Brent

I'm curious if anyone else out here has experienced the same issues with the Zaxcom FDP1 (filter antenna)... I've been using my Zax religiously (2nd gen) for several years, and noticed within the last few months that the external antenna used with the TRX900 no longer performs well as an antenna. In the past, I've replaced the extension cable 24" cable because of the weak spot where it connects to the TRX. I've seen the right angle mod on jwsound, very nice btw, and I think Zaxcom should ship them that way to begin with. Save us all the hassle of replacing a $50 cable every 6 months. Im noticing very poor range when using the FDP1. The Rx display would…

I saw this at Pro-Sound tonight and thought it was an interesting concept for sound carts. I see some things I'd change, like wheel size - etc. Has anyone seen this in action? Tonkarre Sound Cart Link to Pro-Sound

If I've done this correctly, there should be aa attached jpg of the AMJR adjustable right angle antenna for the D4 systems. If you have a D4 system, we will send you three antennas as replacements for the original fragile antennas. This antenna has a reverse gender SMA so it will only work with the D4 systems. Send me an email with a mailing address, so we can replace your original antennas with this new AMJR type. We will soon have an antenna for the standard SMA units. It looks exactly the same with longer wire for the lower frequencies and is the AMJ (no "R"). It will be a simple way of getting the transmitter antenna out from the body or to spray out the antennas on …

My new Petrol was held by customs and I had to borrow a Portabrace 442 mixer bag from a fellow mixer to get me trough my work. Maybe I am too accustomed to the Petrol but the Portabrace is just horrible to setup and handle. Where do you guys put the wireless RX?

On the show I am working now we already had 3 antennas broken on sr and smqv , but it was quick and easy to replace them. I am looking in to buying 4 LMa. If I buy the LMa and the antenna breaks how easy it is to replace? Can I do it myself or have to send it back to Lectro factory? Thanks

I see in the Which microphones do you carry on your kit? thread question there are several who have both 416 and CS3e and I'd be very interested to know how they compare please? I've been meaning to arrange a comparison myself but have never quite managed to get around to it yet. And this leads on to another question - rather than divert the original question of the thread I thought maybe I should start a new thread? Is this a better thing to do - start a new thread in this case or not? thanks Mick

Heyhey all, first time poster here. As a studying audio engineer and as someone hoping to get into film I think it's time I invested in some 'proper' equipment. With a local youth film production team I've used a C1000 straight into camera, with alright results - alright, though not great. I'm fairly set on a Rode NTG3, with complementary zeppelin and boom and whatnot, I hear it's a close resemblance to an MKH416, which I'd ideally be aiming for (I've tried eBay, but can only find rickety old 12t versions, no cheap P48s). I'm sure this should be a fine option, although I'm open to suggestions. Now I also need a recorder. I've only ever gone straight to came…

I'll be checking the frequency charts etc., but wanted to throw this out to the group and see if you've had a similar issue and what it is most likely to be. The production company is providing me with four UCR 100s and those are paired with some LMas and some UM100s. More and more I'm getting random interference "snaps" on these units. It can happens with close proximity to the talent or when they're farther away. When it happens, a change of position on my part seems to help until the next time it happens. The overall range doesn't seem to be that great either. Even outdoors with a clear line of sight. Is this DTV interence, intermod, random rfi from somewhere, …

Does anyone go FULL on the smart Noise reduction feature? I can hear the difference, but have read it can cause some transparency for low-level room noise. Any mixers have bad experiences with the FULL setting? Thanks, Justin

HI, Did a search with no results. Found the manual but its a bit vague. Went through the menu's on the camera itself with the cameraman with no joy. Does anyone know if the PDW-F800 XD cam has adjustable sensitivity for the analogue LINE in at the back of the camera? In the menu somehere maybe? It says its looking for +4 in the manual. I'm noticing that the level pots need to be at a touch over 3 o'clock with line out from my Zaxcom RX900S in order to reach -20 with tone. My RX900S with a digibeta sits at about 2 o'clock I'm hoping there is an adjustment somewhere. The gain structure with my Zax has not changed, the only thing different in the cha…

Finished a pilot recently (didn't get picked up...) that required two days of shooting car2car (how netspeak!), with one scene car2car2car, where the director (sitting in the rear of the rear car, with camera operators in every car - hiding)) wanted to be able to shoot whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted, no room whatsoever in any of the cars for sound, with all of the chase vehicles being sedans with tinted windows - at high speeds with stunt drivers in all of the surrounding cars. A separate meeting for these scenes was held after the Production Meeting where the DP described his vision, and when the group turned to me and asked how in the world was I going to ge…

I saw my buddy Goldy at CineGear today and he was showing the PSU-3 Video Assist unit from Vantage Films. Vantage is a German company that has been supplying camera gear as well as this video assist equipment for years but I had never seen this before. The PSU-3 is one of the most impressive, well thought out piece of equipment I have ever seen. It has amazing features for anyone doing high end digital video assist work. I know this is not the work that most of us do but I know that we can all appreciate this remarkable equipment. More information is available at www.vantagefilm.com but you'll have to wade through a lot of camera stuff.

I notice that the windjammer on my rycote blimp sheds A LOT more than my rode blimps. Any suggestions? If I combs it a lot, would it stop? Or would I lose too much of it? Any advice?

Cross-posting (SD-forum): By lack of knowing a better term: my slider-grooves got hit by a little sand-storm so now my faders now and then get stuck during mixing.. I can't stand sand-crunching while moving faders....Tried a little compressed air but I'm allways very carefull not to blow the sand/dust deeper into the machine... I wondered if any of the CL9users suffered the same problems.. any tips on how to cleanup the CL0 and avoid this in the future, besides staying out of sandy places (?!?) ? I noticed that even cheap audio-mixingdesks have rubber strips in the "fader-grooves" to prevent too much dust/sand penetrating... I also noticed that the CL9 lack…

I am trying to resurrect my beloved Mackie Hui. The power supply is making a very unusual ticking noise that increases in frequency as the unit warms up. I have requested from local Mackie dealers the circuit diagrams but each time they send me something it seems to lack about 3 of the boards of the actual unit. Sadly there are no more Mackie built replacement parts to be found anywhere in the world so I am in rebuilding mode. Any tips? Or does anyone have a complete wiring diagram for the unit please?
