Hi guys, I am curious about the way you organize your kit to lav actors. I usually find myself with the radio mic box in one hand, a belts' bag in another, my tapes around my wrist... and sometimes I go mic up the actors forgetting something... My transmitters are well organized in my cart but I think I should just put everything in a bag/case, well organized. I'm trying to figure out the most convenient set up for me to have everything at the same place. If you have some pictures it might help get a better set up and I'm sure it will be an inspiration to everyone! Thx, Renaud

Good day, folks. I'm Carlos, a Colombian scholar and filmmaker currently based in the US as a doctoral student. This is my first time posting, but I've been lurking in this forum for so long and have found invaluable advice. Thanks a lot for keeping the discussion up! So, about me: I make documentary shorts, and I'm currently on the market for a transmitter/receiver system that allows me to upgrade my beloved Sennheiser G4 512. I primarily do interviews and group chats, so I use one lav (MKE2) and a boom mic (Sanken CS-M1) plugged straight into the camera. Most of the time, though, I benefit from the wireless transmitter/plug-on to place the mic/boom close to …

I believe these are relatively new in that last year or so? I picked up one recently at a discount. Always looking for new ways to get even better reception. For omni reception, I have tried bowties, homemade dipoles, lectro dipoles - i cant explain the science behind it but this antenna works better in my setup than any other omni antenna i’ve tried. My only complaint is it is flimsy and fragile but i mount it on my bag with a clamp and use it with multiple wires on talent when on the move trying to keep it protected from damage. Using a nova with zmt’s mostly. The biggest bonus is i have always had trouble with zmt’s on talent mounted upside down with antenna pointed do…

Hello all! Any tips, tricks, or suggestions for packing the Cinela Kelly for air travel? I have been trying to limit the amount of luggage I bring on the past few travel doc shoots (hoping to stay self sufficient with multiple company moves each day), and have ended up filling the Kelly with other rain gear (aquapacs, poncho, etc) to keep it from deforming before stuffing it in my checked suitcase. Unfortunately, it’s already starting to look a little wonky… How do you travel with this expensive piece of foam? Thanks for your time!

Hello all - will be covering an athlete in women's soccer for a practice, they want a lav mic on her. Transmitter is a Lectro SSM. I've got an array of waist, ankle and thigh straps, and small pouches. I'm most interested in the best transmitter placement option that will interfere the least with her ability to do her job on the pitch. The thigh and ankle are out of the question. I'm assuming I'll be running into a sports bra on the torso. I have silicon covers for the SSM to help protect from sweat I see the Ursa backstrap (URSA Backstrap - Trew Audio) , but I'm skeptical on how comfortable that is wrapping under the arm…

hello, So I just received my sound devices 633 and it is amazing! But when I was playing around with it I noticed that there are two tiny tiny pixels which are bright in colour when background is black. I did some research and found out that they were stuck pixels and atm I dont know if I should send it back to the shop which will probably take a week before they can send another one back to me if they approve that its a stuck pixel etc. Should I just keep it or get a new one? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Here's a photo of it. The other pixel is so small the camera cant even pick it up lol. http://i.imgur.com/5v0twrs.jpg Cheers!

I searched and cannot find a manual to answer this on the Schoeps website. I have a client who wants me to use a Schoeps SuperCMIT 2u with Mini-DA42 Converter as a way to best get sound off a boom at a football game. Boom mic is all that can be used in this situation so I understand the request of the SuperCMIT 2u. My question is: Will the Mini-DA42 Converter give me a DSP processed signal and a clean un-processed signal so I post will have the option of using either? I know there are two analog outs as well as the AES I just don't know what they offer.

Hi - Would anyone here be able to fabricate (or point me to a source) a TA5 Male to locking 3.5mm 4" pigtail adapter (wired for Sennheiser)? I have a bunch of Lectro lavalieres that I would like to use with the Tascam DR10L recorder. Eric Toline (RIP) made these for me a few years ago, and my other usual sources are non-responsive. Attached are pics of the adapter Eric made. Any leads would be appreciated. Thx, Ray C.

Hey all. First time poster, long time reader! I've always used FB channels for communication but figured I'd get on here finally. For my first post I wanted to ask if anyone had keen opinions if you were starting over with new wireless what would you get? (but still using SD 8 series mixers) I wish to have digital RF, AES output, and remote control on the tx. Since I am an SD user, this leaves Shure or SD. Zaxcom clearly answers my needs but sticking with SD for now. 888 user. So, that begs the question, with the new SD tx out, I am super curious about performance and sound quality between these two systems. I suppose we have to wait for feedback …

Hello, I wanted to change the direct outs on my cooper 106 as to prefader because I want to use my direct out as Isos on my 788 and the, either L,R, or any other Mix Out as a Monomix and put it on ch 1 on the 788t. Supposedly on the cooper manual the changing of pins only affects the direct outs, but when I did it, it puts everything as prefader, wether the direct outs or the mix outs as well, any of the users remembers if this is correct? Or it might be something else failing or some hack I should know and don’t know… Thanks in advance! Axel.

I recently purchased two TRXLT2.5 transmitters via consignments at TrewAudio and have been very pleased with their performance! Both transmitters are of the exact same model but one has the newer OLED display while the other has the classic display (not sure what to call that display technology). Anyway, after having just come off a feature using both transmitters I ran a few tests and found that the newer transmitter requires less gain (about 5db less) than the older transmitter. Conducting the test side-by-side first with Countryman B6's and then with the B3's yields the same results. I now currently run the newer transmitter at 15db of gain and the older on…

About a year ago I landed my first indie feature and picked up the short and long Deity shotguns based on the 416 capsule. The long shotgun functions just like I remember the 416T and the short shotgun is very versatile. However I came across some issues in my application of the short shotgun (RFI and handling) and am looking for a new primary indoor and interview mic. Looking at what I need it seems as though the MKH-50 is the obvious choice but I wanted to run it by you guys to see if there is anything else you would recommend. I don't have access to any rentals, dealers or distributors in my state, so testing mics side by side is not an option. I hoping you…

So I was thinking, if anyone would use a wireless microphone with no input gain adjustment, and the audio was very low, lets say for example that only 8 bits of the A-D converter were being utilized. In this case the audio would be represented by no more than 256 discrete levels. This works out to a dynamic range of 48 dB. Since we can not change the mic gain on the transmitter we can not boost the signal to the A-D in the transmitter to get the proper transmitter A-D resolution of let say 96 dB. So we have lost about 48 dB of dynamic range. If we were to boost the audio signal at the receiver, recorder or at a mixer, we can add 48 dB of gain to come up with a…

Recently purchased an Audio Technica AT4053b and was quite pleased with the sound quality it produces. However, I found out the microphone is extremely sensitive to both wind and vibrations. Using the provided AT8415 elastic shock mount is all but useless, any small movements on the pole translate to the microphone body. Thus, I'm wondering if there are any high end shock mounts out there like the Cinela E-OSIX system that can accomodate the 21mm diameter condenser microphone. Thoughts?

My new MKH8040 (serial no.: 1142022778) has a problem with movements. Even with small movements or position changes, it produces occasional clunking noises. Not too loud but clearly audible in the headphones only. I have sent it to Sennheiser Germany 2 times as a warranty claim and both times it was returned without repair saying "unit within specification". - I suspect they did not open it and they did not contact me before returning it. As owner of several other MKH series microphones (MKH8050, MKH8060, MKH50) I know that the microphones are sensitive to wind and handling noise, but mechanically they are very solid. Does anyone know the problem or has anyone expe…

The PATA drives that this industry's nonlinear recorder began with (Deva, and the rest) are obsolete and are now difficult to find at attractive prices. Some recorders have adapted to the more current technology of SATA drive, but the Devas were developed to early to adapt. While cleaning out my office I came across a box of PATA to CF Card adapters that I tested with the Deva recorders a while back. They have always worked fine for me with any CF card over 5gb. Several customers have also used them. I started the project a few years ago for extreme cold environments (no moving parts to freeze in CF cards). But now it makes sense to have a couple of these adapters to poss…

Can you guys tell me what's the difference? I understand there is a science within the blankets but DIY sounds like a better idea....financially. we can get away with a few things especially if we are talking about recording voices in an empty room carpet or non carpet. You know, just something for the exposed walls. What do you guys think and do. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk
