Hi! I'm new to the group thanks for letting me in. I'm into filmmaking and sound for film, with particular interest lately in audio electronics. I'm looking for a shotgun to use with a preamplifier circuit I made myself running on 12-9V battery power, so I'm trying to skip phantom power. So far I've only used electrets with it, but discovering recently that some condenser mikes take lower voltages (P12, T-power). Quite interested currently to try on a T-powered 416, since I have a 416-P48U already and, even though off axis sounds spooky sometimes, it is very low noise. I really dislike hiss because I record details quite amplified. I'm thinking to se…

So I will order 2x TritonAudio - FetHead Phantom This will add 18 dB amplification/gain to my condenser mic and preamp And I will make a separate theme so as not to interfere another ‘Sennheiser Previews MKH 8030 figure-of-eight’ theme that is under way. I want to make several tests: 1. Using two Fetheads in the same chain (for shotgun Schoeps MiniCMIT GR) So I will get 18 dB + 18 dB = 36 dB Extra gain. I would like to use it to record from far away, for example in a zoo where I can't go very close to animals. 2. Using them for stereo microphones to get extra 18 dB (for my Shure VP88, two pcs are needed for this stereo microphone). Planned to re…

Hi. I have just learnt about this company making power generator out of rechargeable batteries (a BIG portable. battery with built in AC converter basically) specially tailored for film work. Overkill for sound equipment but what it means is no more damn noisy, stinky and polluting fuel generators on set! An that is great news for us all. It is a french company but I am sure their products will spread to the rest of the world soon if not already. As a matter of fact I heard about them from a gaffer in Kenya and the company is based in my home town Marseille 😅 worth spreading the word to our gaffer and producer friends: https://pessenergy.com/en/

I am currently comparing Lemo cables with XLR cables for Schoeps microphones. I have no experience with Lemo and was surprised: The Lemo cables on CCM seem to me to be much more sensitive to handling noise (from touching etc.) than the CMC 1U with XLR cable. Is this due to the design or am I doing something wrong? Full disclosure: I'm not using them in a suspension: the CCM is in the SGC clip on a mini table stand, the CMC 1U in the XLR clip. Like an interview scenario for two people with mics placed on the table. The difference between XLR and Lemo is pretty drastic even when I just lightly touch the cable. Can you onl…

I will start by saying I'm not a professional, and probably won't ever be a professional. That said, I do a fair amount of remote recording, and am looking to upgrade my recorder. I'm currently using a sound devices 552 preamp and recording using a zoom f6, but I'm exploring upgrading to a new (to me) Nagra VI, AETA 4MINX, Sonosax R4+, or Zaxcom Nova 2. This seems like the place with the most members with experience with most of these recorders, so I was looking for opinions. I was pretty set on the 4MINX, but some of the posts on here talk about distortion, so I was wondering how common that might be? My microphones are DPA 4015s and 4018s, and I'll probably a…

Inspired by the "View from the office" thread, i am pretty curious as to what bags people haul around, and what gear is in it. So, this threads purpose is pretty simple. Show me your bag, give a little description of what it contains, and what type of gigs you normally do. My "bag": The thing is, i have no bag yet. No cart either. So what you see, is what i have, the rest is rented for every gig. Gear list: Sound Devices 442 Sennheiser G3 kit Røde Lavalier Røde NTG-3 AKG K-271

I've been semi retired and had not plugged the machine in years. Seemed to be OK til yesterday when I turned it on and it didn't come up. So I pulled it apart, there's a lithium button cell in there, it had 1 volt instead of three. Machine came up when I put it back together. If you are comfortable with pulling a computer apart it's an easy fix. You have to remove the time code unit from the deck, and pull the power supply board. Now whether it was the cell or a dirty contact is still a mystery. I'd been using it as time code source, but now I have LTC Jumpstart it can go to EBay or the trash. Or I'll store it with the Nagras.;-)

The Comtek BST 75-216 has different EQ options: Pro Audio EQ or Communication. Does anyone have experience of what these actually sound like? One of the Communications EQ versions allows you to use it to drive a Phonak Invisity earwig which would be handy but I wouldn't want to sacrifice too much of the listening experience when using the PR216 to listen to program sound. all the best SW

So, apologies if this has been discussed recently, but I couldn't find it. I'm buying an SRc for a friend (no, really!) and need to know the skinny on what's going on at the FCC in terms of the future. What would you buy today? A1, B1 or 941? Committed to Lectro, only. Getting out of C1. The 941 maybe less traffic, but it's only one block! Discuss, please.

Hello all, Anyone have experience with X3, PSC Hydra 6 pack w/DSR4's, and wireless designer or know with certainty about workability ? I know the latest X3 firmware has functionality/control for DSR4's and Hydra. Wondering if the USB connection will allow WD and Hydra control at all even if not simultaneously ? I've heard one at a time (one physically disconnected) which is fine... I'd like to be able to co-ordinate and deploy with Wireless Designer and then monitor/utilize Hydra on X3. Thanks in advance.

Hi guys, I’m looking to upgrade my current audio setup and take it up a notch, and your help would be appreciated. Just as a bit of a context, I’m a shooting producer/director, or a one-man-band if you like, and mainly work on branded and documentary content and this setup I am looking into would be for those situations when I don’t have a sound recordist with me, when I do, they take care of all sound (obviously). I currently have the following setup: - Audio Technica AT4053B for indoor interview situations with boom on stand - Rode VideoMic Pro that goes on top of the camera - Rode Wireless Pro - and I use the Canon C70 as my main c…

I plan to purchase a boom pole in the 1.8m-2.7m range (6’-9’) that collapses to under 76cm (30”). I’ve looked at the carbon fibre offerings by Ambient, K-Tek, VdB and Panamic. Panamic offers 3 and 4 section poles in this range. Ambient offers only 5 sections, and K-Tek and VdB only offer 6. I realise that more sections translates into shorter collapsed length, but surely there’s a cost in structural stability. I’m pretty skeptical about a 6-foot, 6-section pole. Am I wrong to be?

I have Schoeps CMC mics that I use for mono and AB Spaced stereo recording. For wind protection, including outdoors in a light breeze, I have two Cinela OSIX 2/Léonard balls with fur. I am considering two Cosi or two Pianissimo for outdoor use. Right now, I can afford one or the other, not both. I would much appreciate the views of people who have used these windshields. The question is whether I should go from the Léo to the Cosi or go straight from the Léo to the Pianissimo. Put differently, is there so much overlap between the Léo and the Cosi, and the Cosi and the Pianissimo, that it would be sound to bypass the Cosi. I’m skeptical of the fact that the Cos…

Hi I was wondering whether AL will come up with something similar to 2040 or if they will upgrade a bit the transmitters of 2040. It seems like the best sounding system. The only strange thing is the mic only output. Also it is not as easy to find them on the market especially after 1010.

Sorry in advance if I'm posting on the wrong forum. I'm trying to find a TASCAM RC-F82 control surface for my HS-P82 recorder. I have two of the recorders and I've never had a need for the control surface - until now. And they're discontinued! Anybody have anything they'd want to sell? New, used - doesn't matter as long as it works. TIA...

Hello, Does anybody here have experience with the Schoeps MSTC 74 for stereo recording interiors and outside? I'm a journalist (podcast & print) but not an audio pro by any stretch. I'm experimenting with stereo techniques for ambience/reportage background recording and the possibility to create immersive audio for podcasts. I tried binaural, Double MS, MS, XY and ORTF and found ORTF the most acoustically pleasing to my ears. It's also super simple with no wide/narrow options to choose from in the mix afterwards. The MSTC seems simple and user-friendly because of its fixed angle and single cable. That's great for handling and tra…
