whilst i am waiting for Howy to get the chance to enable routing an output to a disk track on the Nomad - about a month before he has worked through his list of stuff he needs to do before he gets to that from the last conversation we had. just wondering what people are doing to record a backup of what is sent to camera. about to start a show where i will be sending wirelessly 2 tracks to camera so want to have a backup recording on the nomad rather than the trx900. at the moment, ive made up a cable to route output 5/6 into return 3/4 so i can record the same as i am sending to the trx900/sta150 from output 1/2. but this relies on the cable not failing or crack…

Hey guys. I'm sorry if this is a really basic question. I currently own a SD552 Mixer and I'm looking to purchase a 744t to expand my track count. I know there is the 788t and that is a great piece of kit. However my reasoning behind the 552/744t combination is for the ability to quickly separate my recording kit into 2 recorders. I'm only recording FX/atmospheres these days so i need to be able to, for example; continue using the 552 'off the shoulder' and placing the 744t inside say a car with another person operating it. My question is if both the 552 and 744t are in my bag together, is it as simple as having the correct cable to feed timec…

My entire production sound package is for sale. This is a turnkey package with top equipment, including all of the adapters, interconnects and widgets that make it work. This could be an ideal situation for a Boom Operator or Utility Sound Technician who does not wish to go through the aggravation of putting their mixing kit together. There is a list for anyone interested. Please see additions to this post under the correct category: "Want to Buy - Want to Sell"

Assuming same frequency and type (analog), is this possible to some degree? Downsides? Thanks

I’m trying to remote roll a dv-824 and a PD6 simultaneously with one switch. I was reading in the fostex manuals about how when certain pins are grounded the functions are supposed to be activated.. IE RECORD, STOP.. I built a switch with a 3PDT toggle to control a GREEN/RED LED and separate ground to record and stop pins for two machines.. The LED works fabulously, but sadly the devices are not responding.. Does anyone know what I may have done wrong? All the connections are going where they are supposed to according to the manual.

Got the new rf grounding plate from Zaxcom yesterday (thanks again Glenn), and came straight home to see what kind of results I'm getting with it. First off I want to say that, yes I don't have an optimal separation of wireless blocks (shown in pictures)... but oh well... hasn't been the end of the world yet. I am not currently using the Tx filtered antenna, but after discussing with Glenn about it and the addition of this mod I should have eliminated mostly all the spray I'm seeing. These pictures are shown with the use of the standard 1/4 wave whip on the TRX900aa, with the antenna removed... all rf spray on the nearby Rx's is completely gone. Hopefully…

Hi guys! I'm going to shoot a doc. with the new Sony F3 camera running at 50i frame rate. Should I have my SD 788T time code frame rate at 25fps or something else? Thank you very much!

Hi folks, Recently I want to add these adorable lavs to my kit,but I'm a little confused about the normal version and the red dot version ,which one is perfect for my older lectro um400 (non sevro bias),and which one is more suitable for SMQV,my thinking is red dot for um400 , normal for SMQV,but I'm not so sure,I did search the forum but no answer solve my question exactly,so looking for some help here, any advice would be appreciate. I am contemplating buying a Tascam DR-680 to use as a multichannel recorder for my 442 mixer. I've found a program that can embed audio timecode into proper AUX timecode on broadcast wave files; super simple to use, works great. Before i shell out the cash for DR-680, i'd hear if anyone owning a DR-680 would do me a favor and record the audio clip i am linking to here on the DR-680. It is a two channel WAV file, containing 24fps time code on one channel, and audio on the other. I'd like to do the workflow test before buying it, so i am confident that the ideas i have are valid. I'd like to be able to record 4 ISO's on channel 1-4, mono mix on channel 5 and time-…

I am running a Cameo II + Deva 5.8 + a Fostex PD6 (for backup). I would like to split the serial plug in order to remote roll for both decks, is this possible? I have seen a setup with a Cooper 208 + Deva 5 + SD 744T, and the remote roll switch on the Cooper ran and cut both decks. How is this possible? Can it work with my setup? Dan Izen

I did some searching and couldn't find a definitive answer on this: Is there any danger in using DMX cables vs. XLR cables in your bag? I'm looking for an XLR5F -> XLR3M patch cable and everything I have seen is branded DMX. Any helpful info on this would be appreciated.

Dear UK based JWSoundies, I am planning on buying a zax camera hop and was wondering what block has worked for others in the UK? My other wireless is on CH38, so I guess that, in order to be 2 or more blocks away from them, I'd have to be in the 'not strictly legal' part of the spectrum? What's working for you?

Hi Guys Can someone recommend a good rental house in the El Paso area? I'm going to need to rent some wireless kit in April. Being a Brit and completely new to the area it'd be good to hear from people with first hand experience rather than blindly going for the first company to pop up on Google. Thanks in advance Alex

I have an inquiry that some might be able to answer. I'm using a TRX with STA in the bag. I'm wondering what kind of right angle SSMA adapter I'll could use to get the filter antenna coming out at a right angle instead of straight up. I called Zaxcom but wasn't able to get an answer about the specifications of such an adapter and where to get one. Digikey maybe?

So i am a boom operator and utility and I started out mixing to 2 channels on ultra low budgets in 2006. When I was fresh out of college I bought some crappy gear and started freelancing. I mixed features while poorly operating my own boom and badly wiring the crappy actors. Anyway the only thing I have left from my original kit is my 16' K-Tek and my Rycote #4 windshield kit. I recently sold my 722 because it had no timecode, I sold my DVCPromix cuz it sucked my Me-66 is a paperweight. I have been booming and working as a utility now for a few years and I have saved enough money to start building my bag----->cart. As I started thinking about it …

I've just taken delivery of my new cart platform. My 16 space SKB rack with slide right in between the uprights. The lower rack is 5 spaces. It can be disassembled with a minimum amount of work and flat packed as needed for shipping. This one is all aluminum with a clear powder coat. It's really well done. I'm very happy to see Brett back in the cart making business... I'll post more pictures after we load it up.

I stumbled over this and just wanted to share. I had not seen this before, nor have heard no one talk about it on this site. Made by Ambient http://www.ambient.de/en/produkte/ambient-recording/underwater/sd-uw.html I laughed pretty hard when seeing this. Thou On the plus side, It would be fun doing some sound effect recording with some surround hydrophones.

I just received an email invite to a Zax demo from Trew-Coffey, that contained this statement, regarding Zax wireless mic systems: >>We will also show you how the system eliminates dropouts through digital modulation and isolated recordings on body pack transmitters - removing the possibility of audio loss due to white space interference.<< I'd love to come to this demo, but can't be in LA that day (Feb 18). However, there are many Zax wireless users here, so I thought I'd ask how this actually works in practice (not the circuit design etc, but the results). Does digital modulation allow a wireless to operate properly on the same freq/block as a TV…

Hello! I've saw an old post about favourite VO mics, but i've found nothing about favourite VO preamps. So, which preamps do you like for VO? Are you on the Neve-side or the Grace-side? I really like clean sounding preamps rather than "vibey sound" ones for that matter, but i also feel that in this application the preamp is not the most important part of the chain (talent, mic and room are way more important). Any opnion?

Hi all, Does anyone have any information/advice in regards to using/taking audio equipment into this country? I'm heading over to S.E Asia in April for a holiday and usually make a bunch of recordings whereever I go. I'll be with a friend for a week or so in Burma and she raised a couple of reasonable concerns about me carrying my equipment (eg. association with Journalism). I'll just have an M-S rig with a 702 and perhaps an H4N Zoom recorder with me. Cheers, Craig
