I’m thinking on jumping on the ship of the A-20 nexus and replace my SRcs/SMWDBs. I’m wondering what transmitters to go with. I would like to have your opinion on it. now that the A20-tx is out, is it a better option overall? The A20-TX seems to have a better battery life and more functions. The mini is smaller but battery life seems to be an issue. Do people hide the A20-TX on talents without problem? Is the size comparable to a SMWDB? Thank you, Nathan

I own a bunch of Sony UWP series transmitters and receivers that I use with my FX6/FX3 cameras. I do a lot of commercial and corporate work, so most of my lavs are Sanken COS-11Ds mounted for Sony. I also have a HIXMAN CA117 adapter that allows me to run my Sony mounted COS-11Ds to Tentacle Sync TRACK E's for those occasional times where I run into interference issues. I love the sound of my COS-11Ds and find that they are far better than the Sony stock lavs or even the lavs that come with the Tentacle Sync TRACK E's (which I believe are essentially Sennheiser ME 2 mics), as they should be since they are pro level mics. In addition to my commercial/corporate w…

Hi all - I have the new Deity Theos wireless kit and generally find it to be an improvement in every way over my old Sennheiser G3 units. However when I use a DPA 4061 there is a faint but constant ticking sound, in rhythm like a heartbeat. The unit works fine w/2 other mics (Sennheiser MKE2 and Countryman B3) and then the DPA works fine with the Sennheiser wireless. Has anyone encountered this problem? I'm thinking it might be a power issue, but I have the Deity set to provide 5 volts, which DPA says is the minimum required. I can hear the pulsing when I plug headphones directly into the transmitter so it's not being introduced later in the signal chain.

I did a search and dug up some pretty old threads about painting lav mics, but I wanted to see if there are any new or improved methods today. I have several Sanken COS-11Ds in black, white and beige and am wanting to have two in brown. Sanken doesn’t offer this color whereas DPA and Countryman do. I wish they did as I would buy two instantly! Ad such, I’m thinking of painting two of my beige mics to be brown. I’m wanting this to be permanent if possible and was wanting to paint the wire, the mic capsule, the windscreen, and the alligator clip. Do any of you have suggestions on a permanent paint for this? I’m assuming it would have to be somewhat o…

Has anyone had luck modifying the new version of the Rode Blimp (with the rycote lyres) to fit the Rode NT4? I'm trying to find a windshield solution that won't cost more than the mic :| Based on the pictures, it seems like it should be easy to simply unscrew the current lyres and replace them with the 30mm upgrade sold by Rycote (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/629616-REG/Rycote_042218_042218_30mm_Lyre_Upgrade.html/mode/edu) I'd love to hear if anyone has any other ideas or knows if my solution will work or not. Thanks! mike

Hey all, Pretty simple question here: I'm currently looking at two different BDS systems -- The PSC PowerStar Triple Play II and the Remote Audio BDS4VU. I use the Remote audio BDS daily at work, so I can vouch for their quality, etc. However, the extra outputs and USB slot on the PSC would be very, very handy for me -- but I can't find many reviews on this one. Any feedback on the PSC or experience with both these units? Thanks!

Is the "duplex gap" @ 653 MHz at all usable in New York City? This would be for non-critical use on a stage, line of sight and not more than 70 feet or so. I have LP TX ants, but the RX ants have to be small onboard types for this use. thanks

Does anyone have any experience with Point Source Audio lav mics? There’s very little information on them anywhere online, but their mics actually look quite interesting. More specifically, the CO-8WLh has a pretty small 4mm head which should make them compatible with COS-11D accessories, like Bubblebee concealers, and the mics are IP 57 rated which is great. You can get them in black, brown or beige which I like and they sell interchangeable capsules that can be bought in a variety of colors. They have an updated X-Connector which looks solid and is more affordable than Microdot. Supposedly the X-Connector used to have some issues, but have been updated with locking teet…

So my old Ebtech SwizzArmy is old. I'm looking for something newer that supports a broader range of audio (and related) cables. I'd like XLR, 1/4-inch TRS, 3.5mm TRS & TRRS, RJ45, BNC. Would also like HDMI (full and mini, maybe micro) and USB (A and C) if that's a thing Can live without one or two (probably TRRS). Don't need (but will accept) DMX, Speakon, and MIDI connectors. After poking around at dbx, Whirlwind, Sescom/Markertek, etc I'm resigned to getting two or three boxes. What are you all using and liking (and dropping and still using)?

Hi gents. Long time no post. I'm the guy who is "not a sound guy." Anyway, surely some of you use RocknRollers to cart your stuff around? That is what I'm sticking with for now, so let's not suggest other carts, but, I have an R12 All Terrain with no flats and I either have a lemon (very possible) or these tires are just not that great. They moan and groan under a very moderate load and when really weighed down with cart extended are just torture. Wondering if anyone has suggestions for other tires (i.e. not made by RocknRoller/multicart) that might work better. I'm open to other no flat types or even pneumatics if they don't go flat every two days. Searched on…

Thinking of switching from the Ultrasync Ones to Deity TC-1, mainly because of their slate and some of the improvements to usability, like the clever mounting, built in scratch mic and minijack connector. I normally work on commercials and having reliable gear that doesn't mess up is a big thing for me. Does anyone here have experience with the TC-1? Would you trust a company like Deity for reliable gear?

Just stumbled on this technical paper on history of Sennheiser's MKH line of mics and what makes the various generations different from each other: https://assets.sennheiser.com/global-downloads/file/11061/MKH-Story_WhitePaper_en.pdf I'd imagine this isn't new for some people, but it was to me.

Hi all, I'm considering upgrading my SD 633 to either an 833 or Zaxcom Nova 2. If I do decide to go with the Nova I will have to continue using my current wireless for some time as I gradually change over to the Zaxcom ecosystem (if I decide to go that route). So my question is this, what is the best way to get digital audio from external receives (in this case Wisycom MCR54 and Lectrosonics SRB) into the Nova 2? I understand that with the original Nova the "MAES slot-in module" could be used for this purpose. Is this still the best way to go about it with the Nova 2? Alternatively I see that the DB-15 mini port at the bott…

Evidently, these are no longer being produced. The machinist that they were using has retired. I recently purchased a used TS-3, and would love to put a handle on it. I've had one on order at Trew for a couple of months now, but I suspect they won't be able to rustle one up. Do any of you have a spare, or know of someone that still has stock? Thanks! Louis

Thank you MIx for your Sound for Film and TV online event. Several of the production mixers mentioned extensive use earwigs. It sounded like they had a bushel of the things. Enough to cover a whole orchestra or dance troupe. (It sounded like this will be the next wave sound reinforcement for directors to be able to be inside the actors heads). I used to carry 6 of the Phonaks but now I'm down to just 3. Does any one know what the preferred replacements are? I heard there is a range extender for the Roger system that makes them useable, (but still a sizable investment). Is anyone using the Blue Tooth ones? Thanx David B

I have been capturing some sound effects outdoors using some large capsule condenser mics. Maybe not Neuman's, but I have a couple of AKG C-414 mics and other than the need for stands, it's not that different from other microphones. I mentioned this to a studio-bound friend/colleague yesterday and he seemed mildly appalled. He immediately cautioned me about the fragility of condenser capsules. When I assured him I was using precautions like blimps, deadcats and other windscreens depending upon the wind ferocity, he scoffed and suggested the pencil condensers should be my first choice. As much as I respect my colleague and his ability to capture a symphony orc…

Has anyone had any issues with their Remote Audio Hi-Q Meon batteries? I have a 98wh, 14.4v that stopped working. The gage on the battery shows full. My Audioroot esmart dual Charger shows the battery at 96%, but 0.0 amps. I contacted Remote Audio, but they said to contact inspired energy. I contacted Inspired Energy and they said to contact Remote Audio. Now remote Audio is telling me to contact Audioroot because it’s most likely a charger problem. thoughts?

Post your sound cart pictures please. I am researching potentially adding small, light weight sound cart to my kit, for an upcoming series. I typically mix out of a bag. I'll convert my pelican case into a sound cart when needed, or borrow a rolling table from whatever department will lend me one. Basically, I work a lot in NYC on varied types of productions, have to stay light and portable. It is not always feasible to drive to a location with a cart in the trunk. I've had a number of medium / large / custom carts in the past, all of which were not quite right for 99% of the tight spaces and productions I work on. Often it's getting up a laughably small frei…

Three years ago Jack started asking Nomad users which cards they found good/bad. Most people used Transcend 32GB 133x as they had proven themselves during Jack's beta testing of Nomad. I'd like to revisit that survey in the hope of hearing many more brands and speeds recommended/condemned. Include microSD for Zaxcom body pack transceivers, as well as Nomad Primary and Mirror. Mention good or bad experiences. I'm happy with these for 3 years now... Primary: Transcend 32GB 133x Mirror: Transcend 32GB 133x Transcend 16GB 133x Transcend 8GB 133x micorSD: None yet

I have been using whips with my Zaxcom Qrx100s and Mic Plexer 2 and want better range and am interested in getting some Dipole antennas ( any specific recommends?). I Know this has been covered before (I'm having a little trouble finding exactly what I'm looking for) but before I buy them just wanting to ask if anyone has any tips and or pictures of how they've had success and how they mount them to their harness or get them out of the bag as I mainly do bag work.

Anyone tried the new digital Sennheiser XSW IEMs? Those offer the option to individually use either stereo mode or blend two channels to a mono signal of choice on the Rx side. The signal should be compander free and thus maybe better on the low end than the analog G3/G4 system. If RF performance is OK it could be a good Boom Op IEM system at a real tempting price.

Hi everyone, just found a first real life range test of THEOS. It seems to work great using whips only. Thank you NORDIC AUDIO for testing ! It is in danish (thank you Olle), but the message seems to be straighforward enough to everyone. The range test itself starts @ 2m:55sec. I counted 130 footsteps until he turns around, that would be around 100 meters of range. Plus, there doesn´t seem to be a lot of possibilities for the signal reflections that would help the overal result. Any links to other tests are highly appreciated.
