I know some of you have been across here and I was wondering what were good and bad in terms of the wireless spectrum in these two countries? Preferably Lectrosonics. A.

I am getting ready to build a banded antenna cable to use when I move my antenna boom closer to set, rather than run multiple cables. Just wondering what length would be recommended both in practical terms (having enough length for feature work) and functional terms (not losing too much signal) I was thinking 75-100 feet? Using Belden 9258 with powered sharkfins, Lectro Venues and Lectro T-4 IFB. Hoping LarryF can chime in here as well. Thanks...

I purchased Remote audio antennas around Christmas. I noticed the ones in my bag are getting rough on touch and loosing very small pieces of rubber. I wonder if this is a normal wear and tear. Thanks

New topic heading to continue discussion of new choices for digital wireless (did not want to hijack the original question about scanners and security). It could turn out that the Sony digital wireless is competitive, even at these high prices, for certain features per dollar. For example, the Sony digital wireless, according to Scott, has remote control capability directly from the receiver whereas the Zaxcom units need an additional item, the IFB interface/remote control, to do remote control functions. UPADTE and Correction: IFB and remote control functions are now built into QRX receivers. But then you go on to try and compare and discover that the remote control…

A question for those that might know and be able to explain. Aside from making it easier to sell more wireless transmitters and receivers is there any reason why these things are sold in "blocks" or "bands"? Why not have TX and RX programmable for the whole legal spectrum? After all, it's all digital these days, isn't it? I mean you wouldn't buy an FM receiver that only covered a range from 88.5 to 99.5 would you? Thanks.

So in my search for the ultimate sounding, inexpensive earbuds, I discovered something called "burning in" for new headphones. I feel foolish for never having heard of this practice. Anyone here do this?

Hi all, I'm setting up a Sennheiser G3 wireless system and I'm wondering what the optimum output to my Sound Devices 552 (or a camera for that matter) would be. Based on this discussion and here I thought I should output at the receiver's max of +12 and input to my 552 mixer at line level. When I do this however I get a really low signal and I need to boost the gain on my mixer to almost max just to get a good level. The same goes when plugging the G3 directly into the camera at line level. I have to turn the input level to max and it is still a fairly weak signal. With my Lectro 411a receivers I run +5 and line in on the mixer and get a great signal. How do others …

Any recommendations? I have had bad luck with Wind Tech in the past. The way to test a foam mic cover is to get a white sheet of paper and rub the foam. If all sorts of powder comes out on the paper, then the foam is not good for the microphone. So it is a little bit of a risk to just buy one on line. But perhaps some of you pros know what is good for this mic. THANKS in advance. AB

I am cross-posting with the Zaxcom site support group.... I've been loving the Mix 12 for nearly a year now... but one annoyance, possibly unique to mine, possibly not...... Occasionally, my soft control buttons stick - and bad... the slate button and the talkbacks. Each incident takes my eyes off of the ball for a few seconds. It appears the holes cut into the panel might need a mild shaving. To do this would require taking off all of the knobs. Are there others out there with this experience? The pleasure of working with it far outweighs this problem, but I'm just putting it out there: The tolerances of the holes that are cut might on mine might …

After not so much use, the upper section of the Loon pole I am using started getting so wobbly that my boom op could not swing anymore. In a rushed attempt to fix the wobbly part between exterior takes, the upper section finally got stuck in the twisting collars and I was unable to get it out even after the shoot and sent it back to the dealer I bought it from to see what he can do. I noticed that the upper cable part was never "threaded" like it is on K-Tek poles, making the cable to exit on the side and therefore leave on of the upper holes unused. According to the way K-Tek pole cables are threaded, the cable passes through the side openings of the section just b…

Hi guys, I've got a Beyer Dynamic MCE86 N©S that's developed a horrible habit of picking up what I think is magnetic fields off things. Can anyone recommend any mic repair guys here in the UK? The official Beyer people are PolarAudio, but I know the knowledge-base here must have some alternatives who you've worked with. I can post some examples of the audio it's producing if anyone fancies diagnosing the fault. thanks Nick

Just got a new MacBook Pro with 10.7.2 and when I endeavored to use it to transfer audio from SD card, it wouldn't recognize/mount the SD card folder. My TRX are V. 7.26. I've checked all the settings in Zaxconvert. Tried it with Zaxconvert 6.09. No go. Went back to the old laptop (running 10.6) and it worked fine. Maybe Zaxconvert doesn't yet play well with 10.7. Anybody? Thanks! -- Jan

So for a show that I've been doing we've doing some Skype calls and I'm trying to figure out a better way to get the audio. Usually I just hide a lav close to the speaker of the computer, but I was wondering if anyone has been able to use maybe a 3rd computer to get the sound off of. Kind of like doing a 3 way cell call with a tap to get both sides of the conversation. Any ideas?

Any recommendation on what type of cable and where to get pre-made low loss antenna cable? Don't need any real long runs somewhere between 15 - 25 feet.

I have tried the super cmit. I don t know exactly what to think about this mic. I think it may be a good choice for sport, but I'd like to know if some of you are using it on documentaries or features film ? Thanks

I thought this would be much easier to find than it's turning out to be. I'm looking for a belt clip that I can screw into the back of my H4N so I don't have to hold it while I'm recording. Anyone know of a place to get something like this? Thanks!

I'm looking to purchase a good indoor mic for indie shoots. I'm considering the MKH50, but wanted to get the opinions from this forum on any experience you may have had with this mic. What other options do you recommend? Thanks! Darlene

I'm about to get a SD552 and am weighing up getting tails with a TC return incorporated. I've heard the TC cable needs to be quite heavily screened making the cable quite thick and heavy. Does anyone have any experience using a cable with this construction? Most of my previous work has been ENG attached via tails but I'd like to use the TC trigger on the SD552 to offer audio files for transcription. My other option is keep my old standard tails and by a wireless hop, like the one offered by Jon at Pink Noise. I've got some G3's which I've read can be adapted for this too. Thanks for your help

hi all I have a commercial that will have a golf broadcaster wearing the ubiquitous black headset w/boom mic. I want to use the prop as a practical mic. I did some research and it seems like the Sennheiser Headset ME 26 - 600 is pretty much the standard question _ where can I rent one of these units - the usual suspect do not have them in inventory al

NAB coming up, just an idea that crossed my mind: All these videoclips that are gonna be shot and put on the web (for our great pleasure!) : since they're usually made by audio houses (aka here on JWSound: ''the usual suspects''), wouldn't that be a great opportunity to test the Super CMIT (and maybe other shotguns and lavs) instead of using the cameras' mics? Presentation and ''bench test'' (well, kind of), all into one package...

Hi I'm looking forward to buy 2 Dpa microphones. I'd like to use them for car scenes, or hide on table.... to replace my old lectros cub, some people told me to go with the 4071 (three sound guys from Montreal) with the, http://www.dpamicrophones.com/en/products.aspx?c=item&category=142&it... accessories, but I also saw the compact serie that seem really attractive... http://www.dpamicrophones.com/en/products.aspx?c=Catalog&category=114 do you have any suggestions please. Thank you Arno
