I’ve been on a mic acquisition kick lately, and I’ve ended up with too many shotgun mics, so I need to figure out which ones I want to keep as my workhorses. To help me choose, I decided to test to them all under controlled circumstances and see what I could learn. I wrote way more than I intended, so instead of posting the whole thing here, I put it in a post on my website. And for those who don't want to read an 11-page review (I don't blame you), here's my last-paragraph-first summary: https://documentarysoundguy.ca/the-shotgun-shootout-schoeps-cmit-supercmit-sanken-cs-3e-sennheiser-mkh-60/ Enjoy, and happy listening!

Hi guys, This is my first post here, Ive been using reel to reel more than 10 years and I really love them, I always wanted a Nagra deck but prices are crazy this days, finally find a Nagra III, as description its working but no more info, I just wanted to do some simple music recordings, I know is mono but its all visual to me, no experience with the banana connections and would like to adapt some type of power supply, this beauty works on 12 D batteries. I wanted to learn as much as possible from you guys, and try to find a nice top cover, mine has some cracks, please feel free to give some advice where to start. Regards, …

Yea yea I know they stole. But everybody else in business steals including the usual bag manufacturers so … I know I am going to get a lot of hate but as you all might have found out already I don’t give a F@ck. This is just information. Proaim made a bag. Still old school heavy design and made of polyester but a cheaper version. Price is $167

Anyone here applied a plug-on for this use case? How effective is it in range? In fear of answering my own question, I think most of us have netted good results in range when a plug-on is at the end of a boom. But I've read that a mic helps to create the dipole configuration between the case and the coupler. So when there's an xlr cable on the coupler instead of a mic, the cable is now part of the antenna(?) and would be best to point the coupler straight down (or up) with the cable hanging down the mast? Am I understanding the design correctly? Ideally I would rather use a SM with an SNA, but I'm hoping to keep the budget on this 2nd bag to a mini…

Hey everyone, was wondering if anyone has any strategies or go-to ways to deal with the excess cable of a flow-thru XLR. I'm loving working with it, and the flow-thru mitigates a lot of the internal handling noise, but I have yet to find a convenient way to handle the excess slack. I've instead been using my smaller external boom pole for shots that would create more flow-thru cable slack, but it would be nice to have a method to manage it if I don't have time for a boom pole change or I'm running with a smaller kit.

I’m having a tough time settling on a configuration for an archival field recording project. Some context: currently my only recording gear is a D100 and a pair of LOM Usis. Use case: recording ambiences for an acoustic ecology project (and, as a secondary, as textures and samples for musique concrete compositions). I’ve been going over and over ORTF vs M/S and I think I’ve decided on the former. Budget is capped at $5000. Right now I’m considering: 2x MKH8040, Cinela Albert, and a Mixpre 2 but reading about handling problems and general gripes about the 8040s has me a bit concerned. Renting in my area isn’t really an option. …

So I knew that you could order PR-216’s in the TV5/6 band but apparently you can also get them in “72-76” to use that band as well with the better receiver performance of the PR-216. I’m not talking about the PR75a. Did anyone know this? None of this is on Comtek’s website but they confirmed the existence of this in an email to me the other day. What’s a little unclear still is if these work in narrowband or wideband or companded or not. https://www.adorama.com/ctpr216b7276.html

Hi Guy's, I'm wondering what your experience is with the Schoeps Super CMIT in daily use, and what the feedback is from post production, or if you work in post.... your own opinion. What I experience is that the DSP sometimes is audible, of course even more in the tightest setting. It almost sounds like a gate when fast loud noises are present, for example next to a highway. Also I got some feedback from post that this (gating) DSP, which most times I can't hear on set for it's subtlety, is audible for them. Because they also use these techniques in post... it's one effect on the other, something they don't like. A couple of projects back I recorded in a rur…

Hi I’m interested in hearing other people’s opinions on slates these days I imagine there are some posts about the diety when they released, (I didn’t dig back yet.) A- When will denecke and ambient incorporating the Bluetooth and other sync features into their products? it seems like some of the ambient eco system has been discontinued or not still available ? I was leaning towards that because I have really liked working w Nano (s) I’m just really debating these choices now, I thought I could get some good feedback here hopefully. I really trust and like deneke too and want to by US made. Diety is LA company …

Hi there, it's been a while since I posted. happy this community is still existing. I've had peace with my Nomad/RX12 Setup for some time but sometimes I have to do bag jobs and I realize I need to get the weight down. So my colleague has a Nova which he normally also uses also with an RX12 but now we are trying to get the NOVA Doc-Setup working and unfortunantely it's not behaving how it should do... this is the situation after installing 2 QRX212 into the Nova1: I can see the QRX212 modules being recognized and I can set frequency and modulation so that I can get reception. But there is only reception on 1 of the four possible channels. That's in dual m…

Hi all Every now and again when a job comes up that needs it I get exasperated that my SMWBs cannot transmit and record at the same time. Obviously this has been going on a long time and I know why it is but I wondered has anyone heard whether Lectro have the capability, once the patent has ended, to flick a switch that will allow the SMWBs to do this? I do also wonder why I can do this already with my A10 but not Lectros. I'm based in Europe which must be why Audio Ltd has avoided the patent, but I guess Lectro have never found a way to do this outside of the US...

Zaxcom has introduced a new IFB device designed to be used primarily the way in which current IFB systems used. The sound quality is amazing, it seems to be a very rugged and hopefully indestructable unit, so important for a device that will be the hands of other crew, Director, Script, etc. It will be very easy to integrate this with almost everybody's existing systems since it is compatible with all of the Comtek transmitters. Gotham has done a really good video showcasing the VRX-1.

Is there any disadvantage to using the 2-in-1 nature of the Diversity Fin, compared to two individual fins? I'm building a very low footprint bagmobile and an antenna like that could cut down on space and loading time. Thanks

Hello Guys. I often use Dpa4097 or Sanken's cub mic when setting up the mic on a table or specific area in the field. Of course, I also use the mic mounted on the Ninja Clamp. What I'm curious about is that Schoeps also has a product called CMC 1 SO, but there is no demo for the product from the Schoeps importer in Korea, so it is difficult to directly check the experience of use, and there are no people active in Korea who use or have used the product. There was no place to ask. I'm really curious so I'm asking a question here. If there is anyone who has used or is using Schoeps' CMC 1 SO, could you share with me how the product compares to products…

My issue is on Channel 1. -If i gently move the fader or gain it swings drastically up and down -It doesn't consistently happen -If I change input to pre fade it solves the dramatic rise and falls I've included video and corresponding audio files. I have tried different mics, different power(NP to hirose direct, NP to BDS to hirose, et cetera) Has anyone had the same issue? Any information is gladly appreciated. I read in a reply from a user on reddit that they sent theirs in and within a year the issue came back. (Edit: I should mention I've been told to calibrate the Fader several times. It doesn't solve th…
