"NASA’s Mars 2020 Rover is taking off on July 30, 2020 for a seven-month journey to the mysterious Red Planet. It is planned to touch down on February 18, 2021. To gain some insights into the soundscape in the Martian atmosphere, the Mars 2020 Rover will be outfitted with audio equipment from DPA Microphones. For most of the journey, the audio equipment will be dormant but once the Rover reaches the Martian atmosphere, the mics will allow Earth to experience the sounds of the descent." I wonder... how's the range on that wireless...? lol Link to full article: https://www.dpamicrophones.com/nasa?utm_medium=email&utm_source=mailc…

I was on a gig and 3 talking heads became 4. Its a 3 camera shoot and Ive only an SRC blk 940 and 2 smqvs and a UCR 411 blk 19 and smqv. I was looking at a hard wired ECM 77 couldn't get wire to not show on super wide lockdown shot. So I remembered I have my hop DCHT/DCHR....I will just turn it around and use one mic into the splitter cable and VOILA.... I have 4 wireless. I was using the Dugan auto mix feature, had all 4 selected and as soon as the dcht/dchr combo was closed it wouldn't open again!! Quick moment of panic, battery check, turn off and back on and its working, I ended up taking this DCHT/DCHR out of auto mix and all was fine. I am guessing that being there …

Hello everybody, i hope you are doing fine in this time of Covid19. I would like to have your opinion about pros and cons of the Lectrosonics Octopack VS the PSC 6 pack for distro work. Except of course, size and weight. I am asking of course, assuming that you are using the same receivers and transmitters after a clean scan and frequency coordination work. What are your feedbacks from experience on the field. Many thanks Take care

I'm experimenting with MovieSlate w/Timecode sync, iPad and iPhone. I can jam the iPhone via cable, to my 664 and sync the iPad via Wifi between takes. I still need to calculate a display offset for the iPad but that seems straightforward. Works fine at home but missing is a portable Wifi to take it to the field. CradlePoint PHS300 is one of their recommended units. It looks good as it comes with internal Li-on battery plus 5v ext. power for my bag BDS. Anyone using anything like this? Pitfalls?

My adaptor cup to my BDS distribution system got damaged a couple months ago and during that time I took down my BDS system and replaced it with one of my spare Hawk-woods cup adaptors to power my 788T. My wireless receivers in my bag are powered separately by another Hawk-woods cup. Sometimes 4, sometimes 5 or 6. I finally had the time to get my BDS power cup replaced, but got accustomed to my Hawk-woods setup because I have had zero issues for many weeks now. And I decided I will keep to it. So what are the advantages that BDS boxes have over Hawk-woods? Any personal bad experiences with Hawk-woods that anyone can share? Just curious. Thanks!

Hello, I was reading the tech specs of the 664 and I found out that is recording 44.100 and 48.000. No 96Khz is mentioned. Do they forgot to put it in or does it really don't do that? Thanks.

Has anybody else had the sliding system on their Orca fail? One of straps has decided it no longer wanted to be on the rail anymore, and I can't get it back on for the life of me, so I was looking to see if anyone else had encountered this problem. Thanks gang.

My trusty Pix is not so trusty anymore. Recently it craps out on recording after a minute or so, with a 'media too slow' warning. Also, sometimes it fails to mount the drive and a re-insertion is needed. That makes me believe the only thing wrong is the e-satap connection. Is it possible to clean those connectors?

Hello guys, i was wondering if anyone has ever worked with this particular set up before. The Arri umc-4 is an external follow focus brain. Unfortunately it uses the sync input (where we normally plug in timecode) of the RED. The umc-4 has a regular timecode input (5 pin lemo), we can get timecode to read on the umc-4 but it doesn’t go through to the RED. Has anyone worked with this particular setup before? Thanks!

Hi everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster here - this forum has been an unbelievable source of information and I want to thank you all for being such a kind community of pros! I hope you’re all keeping well during these uncertain times. I have a question about Zaxnet timecode. The gear in question includes: SD 633 (master clock) TrxCL3 Camera Link 3x ERX’s RX200 As a test, I set the 633 to Rec Run and reset the TC to 00:00:00:00. The CL3 is auto jammed to the 633, and in turn jams the ERX’s and the RX200. What happens, though, when everything is jammed, is the 633 is at 00:00:00:00,…

Just recieved my Zoom H-4 Recorder today, and it seems to suit my needs for transcription very well. The only thing that bugs me is that there is no way to pause the recording process that I know of. Doe anybody who has used it know of a way ?

Okay, first off. I have never owned a single piece of Zaxcom gear. This is my first look at integrating Zaxcom into my Sound Devices / Lectrosonics “heavy” kit. So, this review will be written from the perspective of a Zaxcom newbie. So pardon some of the basic Zaxcom information that follows in the review! Why the TRX742.5? Our team really wanted to find a wireless way to quickly switch from our analog microphones to the digital AES42 powered Schoeps Super-CMIT (preserving both channels of audio from the Super-CMIT) while recording to a Sound Devices 788t. The Zaxcom TRX742 series (in our case, coupled with a Zaxcom QRX200 Receiver) is the only single solution produ…

does anyone use this RF amplifier? I would like to push my Sennheiser SR 300 G2 to more output power. At the moment I can`t use it in stereo-mode as that cuts the working distance too much. Mono is fine but I would like to have two signals on one frequency. My main concern is wether that powered output will bleed into my Zaxcom receivers that are on the cart too. Anyone with experience? Maybe Ron? (btw how much is it?) http://www.professionalsound.com/specs/linear.htm Cheers, Matthias

A question for those of you out there using SD MM-1s. Are you using a walkie talkie for PL (mixer to boom op) as SD suggests? If so, are you using one provided by production, or do you have your own? Any makes/models that you could suggest? I am looking at either buying something from radio shack or buying a pair of used ones from a rental house. An important issue of course is connectivity on the mixer and boom op's ends. Thanks for any input, -Greg-

I found a line of interesting looking analog mixers, including some cool 1RU boxes that are pre+insert i/o+mix made by an American company called APB. Word is that they are ex-A+H and Crest folks. Has anyone used any of these? A little out of the normal prod sound world, but they seem to be better designed and made than the cheap MI-world rack-mixer competition (Neutrik connectors, Burr-Brown based mic pres, THAT-chip based outputs, solo, HPF, polarity, can be multed etc). http://www.apb-dynasonics.com/products/products_ProSpec.html

Does anyone know why I can only set the same frequencies between my Wisycom MCR54 and MTP40s using the sync function? If i try to set them manually, it never works. The the same group number and channel number is always a different frequency on the TX and RX.

I'm finding I have to crank a lot of gain into my MKH8000 series to get useable levels out of them, even when I'm only 6-10" away from the mouth - I'm talking the trim pot on the SD302 up to nearing the 60 notch (full). Is this normal, to those of you who own them/used them? Same with the Oktava MK012-3, but the noise floor on the mic is atrocious, whereas I get away with turning the 8000 up that high. Is something wrong here?

Hi, I'm doing one of those shows that has a free-style clapper loader that changes slates at the speed of light. I find that I change the slate number on the primary card and it doesn't change on the mirror card. I guess that if I change the mirror mode to normal in stead of continuous (which I prefer) it would write the file after the renaming, therefore with the corrected slate number. Is there another way to rename the files in the mirror card other than that? Why does not mirror the changes made on the primary card as is a "continuous". The assistant editor is calling me too many times and is not good! Thanks, Manel

I wanted to share our experiences with newer LMb transmitters in case somebody else runs into the same issue. Newer LMb transmitters (those with firmware 2.13) appear to be more picky about microphone wiring than earlier versions of the LMB (2.10 and 2.11) or other Lectrosonics transmitters we have tried. As we have been transitioning out of 600MHz we have chosen to standardize on the LMb, mostly for cost reasons, and because its features meet our needs. We have had lots of trouble with the transmitters we bought new, which had v2.13 firmware on them. The problems appeared to be related to low audio level which required high transmitter gain sett…
