a few questions for our deva 4/5 users on this forum...is anyone using deva software v3.08 in the field yet? if so, or if you are testing it at home in your time off, has anyone had any problems recording at 96K? we did a test here and while changing sample rates the folder we were using (from 48K to 96K,) we had a record error. data was not written to disk, but the machine appeared to be recording, light on etc. does this have something to do with changing sample rates in a working folder? chris.

I've got some new Tram TR50 lavs that I've just started using with some older Lectrosonics Tx's and Rx's. They sounded fine (well... like every other Tram) when I was using them hardwired with the power supply. I've tried them a couple of times with my UM200C transmitters, and they are very noisy and require the gain on the transmitter to be turned up almost all the way to light the -20 LED. Are TR50's one of the mics that they changed the wiring scheme for servo-biased transmitters? And if so, how should they be wired to work with my older transmitters?

AES42 users, What boom pole cable do you use? Would regular 12ft Loon Boom be short enough for trouble free AES42 operation. Or do I need 110ohm AES cable? If so where can I find coiled AES cable? Thanks

Hi. I have 2 PSC Promix 6. I like it so much. I wonder why it was discontinued. I'm looking for articles about it but couldn't find one. Anybody knows why? Thanks.

I have a MKH816 P48 that has sitting in a case for too long now, the original Sennheiser windshield that came with it has started to crack at some points so it's becoming unusable, and feel very lazy about buying a new windshield if the occasion comes to get the mic out of the case, So I was wondering since the interior (capsule & electronics) of the MKH816 and MKH416 are the same,(the only difference is the interference tube length), If finding for example an cheap, old broken MKH406 and installing the inner guts of the MKH816 inside the shell of a MKH406 would work, since I suspect the only difference again is in the shell length. That way I would probably give the…

Here's another interesting and maybe strange wireless mic rig - an "in mouth" mic/wireless system. http://www.slate.com/blogs/future_tense/2012/06/13/in_q_tel_s_funding_for_spy_and_surveillance_technologies_.html No more futzing with hiding lavs - just don't swallow it :-) Cheers, Dave

Hi, I am having difficulty updating the ERX1 receivers. The ERX1 never receives the right amount of segments from the IFB100. It cycles through multiple times trying again without success. Any tips? vins

Would there be any advantage to leaving a dvd in the recorders drive over night while its bouncing around on the truck? I remember they used to put a "slug" in new dvd players and computer drives. I assume it was to keep things from bouncing around. Is there any merrit in doing this? Scott Clements

I recently moved the IFB feed for my crew down to the 470MHz range (using a Sennheiser SR300 transmitter in the A1 block) in order to keep the frequency a bit further from the rest of my wireless. I've always used a Lectro SNA600 dipole as my transmitting antenna, but technically the center frequency of that antenna is only tuneable down to 550MHz. I know that's probably "close enough" to effectively be fine, but I'm curious if there would be a better antenna for a 470MHz signal. Directional might be nice too, so I can point it at set and give my boom op a bit more range that way too. What are other people using? Rob

" Federal Communications Commission's proposed expansion of Part 74 licensing eligibility for wireless microphones: The FCC has set a very short deadline of February 20, 2010 for wireless microphone users to submit comments regarding the importance to them of wireless microphones, personal monitor systems, intercoms and wireless assist devices in their businesses and productions. The FCC hasn't reviewed the rules for Part 74 of title 47, Code of Federal Regulations, under which wireless mics are classified, since 1977. "They were written for TV networks and broadcasters," explains Mark Brunner, senior director, brand management, for Shure. "They were the only pe…

Tucking my gear away this morning, and thought I'd relay my experiences thus far with the boombox. I don't get as much soundstage work as I do EXT, on-location. When I saw it in the showroom I was a bit on the fence. It's a sturdier piece of wood than something you'd tuck under one arm and yell "wait up guys!" But I came around to it. And the price might throw people off, compared to just buying an apple box. Not to mention, a nesting storage box or something of that nature might be more in the spirit of what you need. All those reservations aside, I picked one up in the spirit of Treat Yo'Self day (Parks and Recreation reference). My justification primarily h…

I want to build a simple passive line level variable attenuator in a small box (can be unbalanced). Can anyone suggest what the best resistance for the potentiometer I should use for this "volume control"? It would be used to knock down the the output of a mixer to an amp/speaker setup.

On a job where a client has his own Bose headphones, model QC2. It has two settings (low high), on low it will not "turn on" the Comtek RX, on high it works but the level is low even with the RX turned up all the way. I know that the Comtek turns on by sensing the impedance of the headphones, and in the "low" mode the Bose impedance read as zero and in "high" it read 75 ohms. His headphones worked fine on his iPod in both modes. Any idea how I can get them to work w/ my PR72s? Philip Perkins

I noticed on my Fusion´s input #8 some level showing although nothing was send into. Soloed that input and it makes some crackling, noisy noise. Switching to mic level and 48V on/off got rid of it - I thought. Later I used that input for a plant. It sounded fine in the mix (sent from my CS208) but the levels on that ch jumped like mad. Listened back to it in solo mode - just heavy crackling. I will have it serviced asap but thought maybe someone here experienced that same failure already and knows what needed to be done? Thanks, Matthias

Hi everyone! I possibly have the opportunity to purchase a Deva IV for my cart as a backup recorder. I currently run a 01v96 with a 788T. Having to take the 788T on and off my cart constantly is starting to become a pain. And I would be getting a really good deal on the Deva. What are some of your experiences with the Deva IV? I've read that you can record direct to CF card via a firewire card reader, which is nice. Thanks in advance!

I have two Sennheiser 300 series IEM transmitters and 6 receivers. I intend to use one transitter for director/scripty/video village and the second as foldback for the Boom op, each transmitter being fed different foldback mixes from the Cantar. Both are in the same band – 786-822 MHz. Of course, I will have to set the working frequency on one transmitter different from the second one, say the first one at 786 and the second one at 822. Do you think it is possible to use one single dipole antenna (the lectro SNA) to feed both transmitters, and if so will I need a passive splitter or something else?

#1) I turned on my 744 yesterday and the time code read 25:xx:xx:xx (that's 25 hours). Using it as a master I plugged it into my DV824 and the 824 was displaying 25 hrs as well. It was in free run and when I attempted to adjust TC and increment it to 26 hours it would not go outside the normal 00hrs-23hrs parameters. Mind you this was yesterday, many hours (EST) before the time change (spring forward). #2) I have a CF card (SanDisk, from a local Pro Audio dealer) plugged in and when it became full I continued to record for a couple of weeks. Yesterday, intending to wipe the card, I checked the contents and all of the files were 6kB in length, with what appear…

I've had two DPA 4063's fail on me on the same talent the last two times out on my current show. I've never had an issue with these mics before and this guy doesn't sweat. My only thought is that because he insists on having the transmitter in his back pocket instead of mounted on his belt he is sitting on the connection and tweaking it. I can't be sure until I get them both checked out but on visual inspection all seems good and nothing looks broken in the connector (3 pin lemo for Zaxcom). Anybody else experience this with these mics? It's not interference. It definitely is a problem with the mic. Both times I swapped out for a different mic and was good for the …

Hi All, I found an old 1980 Bruel and Kjaer 4125 measurement mic that was given to me, while going through my old bits and pieces. I've never had this mic hooked up at all but it still has me intrigued. I would like to hear it at least once before it goes back into the box. I have the accompanying "type 2810 power supply" that appears to have a "battery" function. I cracked open the box but there is no battery slot that I can see. The mic itself is quite DPA-like, very miniature with a mini lemo connector. I don't see a battery compartment in the mic body either. Perhaps I could have the connector adapted for a more common power supply? The printed info labe…

Any Wisycom users out there have issues with the MCR54 spontaneously changing its output routing? I recently rented an MCR54 from another mixer, and I found that, on bootup, both bottom outputs seemed to output channels 3/4, even though the menu said output 1 should have been sending ch1/2. Switching the output to AES and back seemed to reset things to match what was displayed in the menu, but this would only fix it until the next power cycle, when I'd be stuck with ch3/4 on both outputs again. I'm 95% sure this is a firmware bug, but just want to see if anyone else has experienced this and rule out user error on my part before I complain.
