Hi there, I am new to this group so let me say hello to all of you! I`m Matthias, Sound Mixer from Berlin/Germany, working in feature film and TV-movie mostly. And here is my first question to you guys: does anyone have a pdf file or a link to the manual of a cooper mixer CS208D? Not the CS 208V2 which is the newer version. On the website of cooper sound they just have a brochure and the V2 manual. And after working with (rented) AD Mixers and LM1 I finally made the step and purchased a 208 with ADDA and DiO option. It just needs to be transfered to Berlin - feel like Christmas now ... Regards, Matthias

I just tested out a bunch of on-camera mics for DSLR video: http://www.sam-mallery.com/archives/566 I know this forum is a bit more "feature-mixer" oriented, but I figured some of you folks may find this interesting. Best, Sam

Hi guys, Wondering if anyone has any experience using the Shure MX393/O boundary mic? http://www.shure.com/americas/products/microphones/microflex/mx392-mx393-microflex-boundary-microphones Here's the situation: A few months ago I worked on a shoot in a classroom with about 15-25 students. Two camera's, one wide, one on close ups. It was an ESL class, so students with varying degrees of confidence with the English language. The class proceeded as normal (ignoring the cameras) with a lesson and then student/teacher interaction. Of course, the teacher was wired, but the students all had to be boomed. The issue became that to hear some of these shy kids, …

I was pondering the other day, in between takes, that now that I have my cart almost the way I want it, other than my chair and my ears, what is my most important piece of equipment? I came to the conclusion that it's my PSC powermax's (I have two) They distribute 6, 12 and 18 volts to the various power consumers on my cart with invariable efficiency and even when the electricians inadvertantly "re-patch" without informing me, they continue to supply uninterrupted DC to all my bits and pieces. They are fed by two 55 amp/hour sealed lead acid batteries in a custom box which was made for me by our construction crew. If I get the opportunity I'll post a pic of my cart which …

I've been trying for months to get hold of anyone at Loon. At first they wouldn't return emails or calls from either myself or Gotham Sound (imagine ignoring one of your own retailers!), then their number went straight to a recording saying that the mobile customer was not available. Now, as of yesterday, the telephone number on their website is out of order. All of this followed some rather testy customer service served with a helping of attitude way back when I was able to reach them at all. A.

Being on the verge of spending money again, I want to make sure this is the right step before parting ways with my hard earned cash. I'm a sound mixer who is relatively new to the craft (about 9 months doing location audio) and I want to invest in some pro quality wireless. One of the things that I feel is most key to being a good sound person is to have pristine audio. Now pristine is a relative idea but getting as close as possible is a good approach when you don't have the clients or money to access the top quality Zaxcom's/Lectro systems. My question is about the sound quality of a Sennheiser G3 Wireless system wired to a Sanken COS11 lavaler vs. …

Hi All, Just wondering if you have a favourite way to label and/or colour code cables in a bag rig? I've seen coloured tape, label makers, clear shrink plastic, etc. Do you put labels with your company name on all your cables to identify them? I'd like to devise a good system that won't leave sticky tape residue and also look clean and professional. Also, do you use protective cable caps to keep out grunge and dirt? Any recommended source for these? Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Keep well! Cheers, Dave

Has anyone used these antennas yet? https://www.lectrosonics.com/US/Antennas/product/alp690.html They look great, about twice the price of most other shark fins but with way more features. I have the ALP620s which work well, and the 690s seem like a massive improvement. PSC RF multi powers these for antenna gain?

I've noticed on the newer Sony and Panasonic 900's, that there is a SDI output on the back. The DOP on my last shoot was telling me that it can output Picture, Timecode and audio down the coax cable. Is anyone using this output to receive audio Timecode and picture ? If so, what kind of devices are there that can receive and output the TC, Audio and Pic ? IE, to feed my recorder with TC, My monitor with picture, and my mixer with audio return.

I'm about to upgrade to a 664 and will soon be selling my 552 (more on that later...). Over the last couple of years there has been some build up of dirt on the front face of the 552, particularly around the pfl switches, transport control and under the faders. And I'm sure there's been some dust fall down the pan/trim/filter pot cavities. Is it possible to safely dismantle the chassis to clean around/under the front panel switches? How is this done? Also what solvent would you use to clean with? I'd imagine methylated spirits on a cotton tip would work but please advise me if this would be damaging to the electronics or metal finish. Many thanks in advance.

This morning my boom op put charged eneloops into my SD MM1 (like every day). When it wouldn't turn on he checked and found that the lower eneloop had leaked! Within seconds. We tried to clean the batt compartment but now there seema to be not enough phantom to power a CMIT (the red lights light up but not to the full extent and there is crackling in the background. Any tips for cleaning? What kind of fluids to use etc.? There is just a little residue on the bottom o the compartment, which is a bit hard to reach.

Hello, I am looking for an equivalent of the sony NP-F570. I had three of them and I used them on my lectrosonics SRb (with the SRbattsled). However they are starting to die one after another and Sony does seem to produce them anymore. I have looked on amazon for an equivalent NP batterie size but there are so many references and most of them are cheap chinese brand. Did anybody had good experience with those cheap chinese NP batterie. Of course I could go with larger size NP batterie but the NP-F570 is the perfect size and weight for a "on camera" receiver.

Hi everyone, I was wondering if you guys had experience with InEar monitoring for actors! Specifically I would like to shoot a music scene with live singing and I would like to equip the singing actors with inear monitoring so they can sing to the playback. I had good results once, using one of the comtek receivers on an actress using regular earbuds in only one of her ears. The makeup artist helped me covering both earbud and cable with the actrisses hair. This time I have a car scene with father and son singing to the radio. The camera will be shooting only from one angle so I would equip each actor with monitoring on their nonvisible ear. Has…

Hello. I am wanting to learn about any equipment rental houses that are available to location-based Production Sound Technicians in the UK, and Europe in general. I am only familiar with Pinknoise in the UK. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there, I need to put together a sound recording kit for a 20 week doco shoot. It will be shot on DV camera. My director wants it to be a wireless set up. So far I have looked at getting a Sound Devices 3 channel mixer, hopefully I can also get a SD 744T hard disk recorder. I have a Sennheiser MKH60 and accessories but I am unfamiliar with radio mics and wireless systems. I want a good wireless mic system and a reasonable wireless link back to one of the camera inputs from my mixer. Lectrosonics would be great but the accountants have baulked at the price. Is the Sennheiser EW112 system adequate for good sound? Should I get Sennheiser transmitters and receive…

Hi All, I'm wondering if anyone has any recommendations for where I can purchase an AES cable for my nomad using a low-profile RIGHT ANGLE mini-db15 connector. Has anyone found a good source for these cables, or could recommend one of the custom cable builders? I typically get my custom cable work from Pro Sound NYC, but they seemed to have a hard time tracking down the RA connector for me. Thanks in advance, e.

What do y'all think? I searched but didn't come across this direct comparison. I am upgrading my g3, and first thought was lectro 211 and um 200, but after some reading I wonder what others have to say about this comparison? Thanks to all who chime in!

I created this thread to share experiences. After all, these are products never intended for our craft though I often prefer them over what comes with concealer starter kits or "our industry" offers. For decades, I've been using these 3M tapes, either on on rolls, as prepared circles or stripes. (The circles are great and fast for the round DPA concealers for a quick application/secene, not for a long day). Until I came across Walker tapes this year. I've used "Lace Front" and "Ultra Hold" on 2 independent productions. On skin and on wardrobe, either with some fur or concealers. While "Ultra Hold" is advertised as the most sticky in their product range, the Lace Fron…
