Need some tech advice! Pop and hiss on DPA 40/6061! For reference I am using a lectrosonics SMA and SM tx going to a UCR 411a. The LAV mics are a DPA 40/6061 wired for Ta5F. I use a 1k ohm resistor in the wiring as I do them myself to save some $$ and the 3k-4k makes them just a bit to soft for standard speaking. The client we worked with today had a habit of cupping their hands and putting them to her chest. Whenever this happens a loud pop occurs, and then the audio becomes full of hiss. I can unplug the mic, then plug it back in or turn off the tx and it would sound fine after. But has damaged occurred to my DPA lavs at this point? It sounds like they were ove…

Hello people, A while back I posted about the hardwired CL-Wifi that I made that works much better than the wireless one, and people seemed to like the idea but it was pretty hacky. In setting up an ethernet network on my cart, I realized that the IP address of the CL-Wifi is hardcoded into the app, so I couldn't get it to reliably be a part of my cart's network. I wanted to see if I could write a Windows Forms app that controlled the 788T via the C. Link port, and in the process discovered that all of this can be done over a hardline on the 788's usb port. So I knew that you could order PR-216’s in the TV5/6 band but apparently you can also get them in “72-76” to use that band as well with the better receiver performance of the PR-216. I’m not talking about the PR75a. Did anyone know this? None of this is on Comtek’s website but they confirmed the existence of this in an email to me the other day. Hey all -- I have been wanting a DPA 4560 binaural headset mic for some time, but I can't really justify the $1500+ cost right now (headset, plus microdot adapters). So my idea is this: I do already own a pair of DPA 4060's. If I can rig up one of the DPA Dual Headset Mounts, so that I can attach and orientate my 4060's, it should effectively be the same thing, right? Sure, it won't be as elegant, but it'll get the job done just fine. Hello, Does anybody here have experience with the Schoeps MSTC 74 for stereo recording interiors and outside? I'm a journalist (podcast & print) but not an audio pro by any stretch. I'm experimenting with stereo techniques for ambience/reportage background recording and the possibility to create immersive audio for podcasts. I tried binaural, Double MS, MS, XY and ORTF and found ORTF the most acoustically pleasing to my ears. It's also super simple with no wide/narrow options to choose from in the mix afterwards. Anyone here applied a plug-on for this use case? How effective is it in range? In fear of answering my own question, I think most of us have netted good results in range when a plug-on is at the end of a boom. But I've read that a mic helps to create the dipole configuration between the case and the coupler. So when there's an xlr cable on the coupler instead of a mic, the cable is now part of the antenna(?) and would be best to point the coupler straight down (or up) with the cable hanging down the mast? Am I understanding the design correctly? Ideally I would rather use a SM with an SNA, but I'm hoping to keep the budget on this 2nd bag to a mini…

Hey everyone, was wondering if anyone has any strategies or go-to ways to deal with the excess cable of a flow-thru XLR. I'm loving working with it, and the flow-thru mitigates a lot of the internal handling noise, but I have yet to find a convenient way to handle the excess slack. I've instead been using my smaller external boom pole for shots that would create more flow-thru cable slack, but it would be nice to have a method to manage it if I don't have time for a boom pole change or I'm running with a smaller kit.

I will start by saying I'm not a professional, and probably won't ever be a professional. That said, I do a fair amount of remote recording, and am looking to upgrade my recorder. I'm currently using a sound devices 552 preamp and recording using a zoom f6, but I'm exploring upgrading to a new (to me) Nagra VI, AETA 4MINX, Sonosax R4+, or Zaxcom Nova 2. This seems like the place with the most members with experience with most of these recorders, so I was looking for opinions. Zaxcom has introduced a new IFB device designed to be used primarily the way in which current IFB systems used. The sound quality is amazing, it seems to be a very rugged and hopefully indestructable unit, so important for a device that will be the hands of other crew, Director, Script, etc. It will be very easy to integrate this with almost everybody's existing systems since it is compatible with all of the Comtek transmitters. Gotham has done a really good video showcasing the VRX-1.

Hi I’m interested in hearing other people’s opinions on slates these days I imagine there are some posts about the diety when they released, (I didn’t dig back yet.) Hi all Every now and again when a job comes up that needs it I get exasperated that my SMWBs cannot transmit and record at the same time. Obviously this has been going on a long time and I know why it is but I wondered has anyone heard whether Lectro have the capability, once the patent has ended, to flick a switch that will allow the SMWBs to do this? I do also wonder why I can do this already with my A10 but not Lectros. I'm based in Europe which must be why Audio Ltd has avoided the patent, but I guess Lectro have never found a way to do this outside of the US...

So I’ve been using a Sonosax SX-ST semi-regularly (not mine) and there’s a few things that still mystify me. Maybe some of the long time Sonosax users can enlighten me here. No output limiters? Really? I was surprised and asked Sonosax about this and was told that since it has always-on input limiters that one would never overload the output unless using a large amount of fader gain. Well then! I suspect the guys at Sonosax have never tried to mix a scene with mumbled whispers plus action even if that action is an unexpected folder slapping a desk or someone accidentally kicking a chair... when you’re adding 30dB of gain to pull out some ridiculous whisper just…

A new model, the "Zoom H4essential" just got released today for US$199. Supports timecode, but only via the Atomos (formerly TCS Ltd) Ultrasync BLUE. The new Zoom H6essential (for US$299) also supports timecode via the same manner as well. Hi there, Basically, I don't have much interest in microphones focused on musical instruments, but I've just looked at the specification of this microphone and thought it might be interesting to record something other than a kick drum. It seems to have a very flat frequency response with a slight boost at 10k, Distortion, THD < 1% is 156dB SPL RMS, 159 dB SPL peak, Max. SPL, THD 10% is even 164 dB SPL peak. This may be a good candidate for recording a gunshot, an aircraft engine, etc. Does anyone who uses it for PA or music recording have any comments or impressions to share?

Hello Guys. I often use Dpa4097 or Sanken's cub mic when setting up the mic on a table or specific area in the field. Of course, I also use the mic mounted on the Ninja Clamp. What I'm curious about is that Schoeps also has a product called CMC 1 SO, but there is no demo for the product from the Schoeps importer in Korea, so it is difficult to directly check the experience of use, and there are no people active in Korea who use or have used the product. Atmos has some very reasonably priced TC boxes that can talk to (they say) cameras, phones, monitor-recorders etc on blutooth, without cables. They also have a TC box with "mini DIN" connectors for TC (Yay! Yet another esoteric TC-camera cable type!). Has anyone worked with their system? It includes video recorders that automatically upload to the cloud on stop, and editing app, etc etc. Impressive to me if it all works...!
