So up until now I've not really had a reason to play with the recording feature of my Zaxcom TRX900AA as I've used the 552 internal recorder instead. I'm heading to a friends wedding tomorrow and he asked if I would mic up the Celebrant, so I thought this would be a good opportunity to try out the recording feature of my TRX. I decided to do a couple of test runs before the wedding so whilst on location this afternoon I did some recordings to the TRX from the output of my 552, and then when I got home I took off the STA150, added my DPA4063 and mic'd myself up for 20 mins. I used Zaxconvert to transfer both files to 24/48k WAV files, but both files were unusab…

Woot.com has these Centon 32GB Class 10 SDHC cards for $25 + $5 s/h. I actually own three of these SD cards for use in my 552 and Canon T2i and am happy to report they work great. This deal ends today, so if you're in the market, you might want to jump on it soon.

Hi all While I await reply from the manufacturer... I have a phonak earwig with induction neckloop which I am trying to wire to work with Sennheiser IEM receivers. Does anybody have experience with this? The cable coming from the neckloop has 3 cores (green, brown, white) and a braided shield. I need to terminate this to TRS mini.

So the NiCd battery pack went dead in one of my wireless home phones after years of use and I decided to make up my own 3-AA battery pack. Being a cheap bastard, I dug through various drawers and found some 5 year old Sanyo 2700 mAh NiMh's and some Eveready 1800 mAh NiMh's that were even older. I don't know how old they were but Eveready hasn't made 1800's for many years. Not only were all the batteries flat, but they would only take about 60 mAh (sixty!) before the smart charger terminated. I discharged them in the smart charger and charged them again to about 200 mAh. To make a short story shorter, after 4 or 5 complete charge discharge cycles, the Sanyo's were back to…

(I basically copied this thread from dvxuser, i figured this site would get me better questions answered) Last year I had to sell my Shure FP33 due to financial woes, and now I'm back in the market for a field mixer. Since then I have used the PSC M4 MKII and another PSC model mixer on set. I am searching for a used mixer around $600 and I have been able to find a complete PSC M4A+ setup for ~$700. The setup includes the porta brace, mixer and break away cable. I feel like the price range suits that setup just fine. The main question on my mind is what are the differences between the M4A+ and the fp33? Gotham sound quoted me $300 for a used FP33, mixer and shure bag…

I'm about to record a play in a small theatre using a Neumann RSM191 to the Sound Devices 442. I'd like to record in MS mode but I'm not sure how to sort out my settings on the mixer. Does the RSM matrix box decode the MS signal before hitting the mixer or do I need to set up the mixer for MS. How should I pan the two outputs going to camera? Should I listen to MS monitor mode in the headphones. Will they need to do extra in post to make it work. I need specifics as I'm not up to speed with MS and I'd like to try it before resorting to the safety of XY. Many thanks if you can help I will love you always... in a purely professional way.

Hey everyone.. I've enjoyed and benefited from all the great information here over the past year or so. Thanks. I've made a few posts but I've certainly taken a lot more than I've given. In an attempt to rectify that imbalance, I am posting a "brochure" that gives an anatomy of 2 new carts that I just finished. Hopefully some of you will find the information useful. I seem to build new carts about every 6-8 years, this being my 4th round. I tried to put a lot of information in the post but if you have any further questions I'll do my best to answer. Thanks again for all the great advice and dialog. Maxwell Soundcarts PDF.pdf Cart Costs.pdf

I'm on a job this past week and one of the two block 22 lectro radios I'm using is getting stepped on pretty badly. I scan for a free channel and see that that there's a lot of rf being used in the area but I find a few free channels and lock one in. I check the lectro chart that I always carry in the bag and note that the new channel is not listed as compatible with the other radio sitting inches away. Even though the two radios were getting along fine. I concluded that these charts don't tell us the only compatible frequencies but probably an effort to coordinate the dozen or so that are listed on the charts. It's probable that a third radio adjusted to a "s…

Just got a new MacBook Pro with 10.7.2 and when I endeavored to use it to transfer audio from SD card, it wouldn't recognize/mount the SD card folder. My TRX are V. 7.26. I've checked all the settings in Zaxconvert. Tried it with Zaxconvert 6.09. No go. Went back to the old laptop (running 10.6) and it worked fine. Maybe Zaxconvert doesn't yet play well with 10.7. Anybody? Thanks! -- Jan

I'm currently using the Rode zeppelin, but I'm finding that it's really flimsy. Looking for a rubber donut shockmount, but coming up short. Any suggestions?

I am thinking yet again about an antenna distro system. But now I am using different block receiver ( 21-22-24-26 ). Since I want to be using dipole antennas ( for size ), what are the pros and cons of using the wrong lenght of antenna for blocks. Might be a question more for Mr Larry F. Thank you Pascal

They look great, but they don't close! A simple drawstring or a built in clamp, or even a folded velcro dealio would work, but the way they come there is a big 2" opening that lets air right on through. My workaround is one of those large 3" binder clips, but that hasn't been field tested. (Just got them two days ago and we've been on a stage.) For how expensive they are and how much we needed them, I'm pretty surprised at this massive oversight. Any suggestions? (I don't like to tape fuzzy things since they tend to pull out the hair and also get sticky, and of course it looks ghetto...) Dan Izen

Hi All (especially Deva users), My local dealer has a Remote Audio HD Caddie (not the more recent Caddie to USB adapter) for the Deva IV, V etc. that hasn't got a home. What is the advantage of using this as opposed to the generic one found in the Devas? Can it hold an SSD drive for instance or any other plus points to getting this? Thank you, Wil PS I've tried and failed to find the Deva II group on Yahoo - any ideas?

I went to a media event in Manchester UK yesterday and was absolutely amazed at the number of exhibitors showing the various forms of Cannon cameras and stating that this was the way forward for making features TV drama or docos. I actually counted over 75 of these cameras on the various stands. There were only two Alexa there, One on the Arri (main UK dealer) stand and one on the end of a crane on the Panavision Stand who were selling cranes not cameras. Although I'm coming to the end of my working life and the use of these DSLR's won't really affect me I certainly hope that the film industry doesn't fall as low as this One thing that really caught my atten…

Got the board changed in my TRX900AA recently and now, using it with a brand new QRX100, I get that noise in the background. I used to use this Tx with an RX900 so maybe using it with the QRX is different ? I tried different settings but no success... what settings do you guys use in terms of dB levels on your Txes ? What's your "gain structure receipe" with recent TRX900s and QRXes ? Thanks Attached, the file: going (1) from noise of this combo to (2) another mic I got rigged with no noise, then back to (3) that setup which gives me trouble now... Hello everyone, though I know this topic has been covered a number of times, I would like to bring it up again since I have a specific use and unfortunately a lower budget to work with. A tv show I work on does a lot of dialogue in cars while they speed around tracks and perform stunts, and I need to design a system for them for the next season. My thought was to get a four track recorder, with four mic pres (so a 744 is out of the question) because this needs to be compact, and also must have time code so I can sync it with my 788. I would have cos-11's hard wired to XLR going directly in so I dont have to worry about the common problems of wireless in a moving vehicle. …
