Hello all, Currently in the process of putting together a small kit. I've put together several different ideas, but it's proving difficult to keep it around my goal of 10k.. It seems next to impossible to completely cover timecode with this kind of budget, so I would at least like the recorder to support/generate it for future upgrades to the kit. Ideally, - Nomad lite? - Otherwise, 4-6 iso tracks - Bag/Harness - Boom/416/Rycote mod 4 - 2 Ch. Wireless - this is definitely the killer.. Not really big on the idea of using G3's, but having a lot of trouble here. - BDS Power distro - Talkback/Monitoring for boom? - Cables/Adapters - dumb slate (in…

I'm looking for a small (probably) single bay NP1 charger for my kit, mainly to reduce size/weight when going away and to prevent emergencies on set. Would also be nice for it to double as a power supply Hawk-Woods SL1 seems to be the smallest PAG Quasar looks pretty small and doubles as a PSU but needs extra NP1 shoes and is very expensive (unless 2nd hand) Anyone know of any others?

I am speaking of a small 3ccd camera, prosumer type! The size of your palm! Some of these cameras have 3.5mm unbalanced inputs. Does anyone know of any mics that would work with these. I was thinking of a directional lav tape mounted just around the lens. Would a Sennheiser ME4 work? If wired for 3.5mm jack? Would I need a power supply? I know some of these are dependant on the camera, but I am just trying to provide some sort of better mic for a handheld camera of that size. The camera is always within arms reach, thought maybe a cardioid lav would work. Has anyone heard of anything with greater reach in a lav setup? Thanks

With just a 702T and 442, I'm still bag-based and I generally plant myself at monitor when working. However, on an upcoming project, I am told that the director has a thing about not being crowded so I'm contemplating a small monitor that I might somehow mount on my Petrol bag. If it was also a monitor that might be used for focusing with my HVX200A that would be great, but I suspect that would not be low cost.

Hi All, Has anyone come across a small and light NP-1 Charger that is more suitable for lightweight travel than the usual two-slot desktop ones. Something similar to IDX's EC-1 ( http://www.idxtek.com/products/endura_ch.html ) but for NP-1s? I've been through all the websites of the usual gear shops both in the US and here in Australia, and come up blank. Has anyone made their own with an NP-1 cup and a plugpack style charger from another market? It would need to cope with NiMH and Li-ion chemistries. It doesn't have to be that fast a charge. thanks, nick

Hi, I have a shoot where I need to tap into the comm system of a civilian fixed wing aircraft- I have the Remote Audio adapter for civilian fixed wing aircraft, but I have zero experience with this and it's a plug and leave the bag scenario. How hot is the signal that comes out of the comm system- is it a line level signal? I'll try to get a lav taped to the headset as well, if possible to cover bases, but what else should I be looking out for? Thanks in advance. Marc

Hi wonderful JW members! It's been a little while since I posted on here and I wanted to start by thanking everyone for the wonderful resource this forum is. I want to start a conversation about the pros/cons of small portable recorders to be paired with DSLR or other cameras for lower budget or "one man band" type shoots. I'd love to hear people's opinions and experiences with recorders in this market. Specifically I am thinking of 3 recorders that are out right now: The Tascam DR-60D (which has a great thread started by Tom Duffy and a review by Ty Ford ), the Zoom H6 (which has a short discussion that is mostly negative ), and the Fostex DC-R302 (which has a g…

Looking for the small rubber "crutch" style tips for ladies heels. My show seems to have an endless parade of loud spike heels on hard surfaces. Especially looking for the small ones that can't be found in the Home Depot/Lowe's/Osh stores. These sizes are 3/8 and 1/2 inch black rubber tips. Any sources? ~pwp

Which one, which one? I'm looking to add a small recorder to my kit for the odd SFX, wild line, VO, etc. There are a number of choices and I am curious what others are using. I think I lean towards one with XLRs. Also, the Marantz PMD660 uses CF cards which would make direct import into my 788T easier. Any thoughts? Bruce

Good afternoon - I'm building a small sound cart set up: Ive been talking to American Sound recordist Jim Keany Building around the idea of been able to quickly break the bag away from the cart with minimal Fuss. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sNVnqQ8p7E (starts talking about power around 8.10) As you can see my rig is a bit smaller but very similar. Bag: -An 833 (SL-2 - 2x src's - 2 x Betso Sharks) G4 Coms Cart: Icon M+ Controll Surface Black magic Duo monitors LED light strip Usb Hub My problem at the moment is Power distribution: It looks like Jim is using his PSC life bat - into a AR…

I am about to purchase one but before wanted to know if anyone has tried the small size with an MKH416 (maybe with a right angled XLR?). I know that Rycote suggests the medium size for the 416 but i also know that they suggest the modular kit 4 but most people i know use a 416 on a modular kit 3. So, anyone out there with the super-shield small that can confirm if the 416 will fit? Thanks in advance! p.s: senator, i know the "contact the manufactures", and i did

I'm looking for a smaller footprint Sync box and it appears to come down to either the Betso SBOX 1 or the MozeGear Q28 BNC. Anyone here that has used both and has an opinion as to which is more user friendly ? Al

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a very, very small usb keyboard for use in a bag? I was looking at these which are about 9 inches wide: http://www.cyberguys.com/product-details/?productid=7599 But I still feel like there must be some other smaller options out there....

I've just got a Sonosax SX-R4 and I'm wondering about making a 4ch passive mixer, so I can effectively mix and still record pre-fade ISO's. Just before I do this- is there anything commercially available that'll do the job?

Hi, next year I'll propably have a gig overseas where it's not possible to rent pro sound equipment locally. As I don't have my own cart I'm thinking of building som kind of ultra portable mini cart. I also try to avoid hi shipping costs, too. We won't have that many locations, but mixing from the bag is not what I want, though. We have either 2 or 4 talents, that need to have lavs plus recording some athmos during breaks. What's needed: - Mixer/Recorder MixPre6 together with a Nano Kontrol (Studio), might also be a bigger boy - Mics MKH8060 on a boom MBHO modular mic set (3x a…

Hello Folks, Maybe you can help me. I know Rycote makes ready made systems for a pair of 8040s, but they are so big. I record Sound Effects, not dialog, so perfect coloration or whatever doesn't concern me because I mangle the sounds so hard in post anyway. What is the absolute smallest system in which I could fit these mics in in an xy arrangement? I'm not attached to Rycote. I actually own a Cinela for another setup and it's great - so I'm very open minded to creative solutions. Think something small enough to put in my backpack with lunch and hike hours through the mountains. I'd probably use a MixPre6 recorder in case it matters.

I'm looking at adding a couple backup 49wh batteries for my Cantar Mini. I see batteries that pretty much look the same to me from Remote Audio ($105 at Trew), Aaton ($129 at Gotham), and Audioroot ($151 at Trew). Is there any good reason to get the Aaton or Audioroot units?

I'm a newb. Building my kit and I've just been asked if I have a Smart Slate... I know what they are and I've worked with them when I've been AC but I'm unclear on exactly what the advantages are for production when using them. Also what's the workflow ... what do you jam to what? And the workflow for multicam? Need knowledge! Thank You!!

I’m looking into getting a new smartslate. I had a TS3 for years. Interested in the Getting something more compact. But as a Zaxcom user. I’ve been waiting for a Zaxnet Slate, so I’m kind of interested in getting a smart slate that can read meta data. Im wandering what others experiences/ preferences are. Thanks!

I am considering buying a used TS3 Denecke Slate. It does not have the EL Backlight Display which illuminates scene, take and production section of the face plate. Is that something that I would miss? Andy

Hey everyone, quick question, I'm currently a student, planning an equipment list for my senior thesis and I'm curious about the current line of the Deneke slates, as opposed to the legacy models from years past. My school owens a fully operational Denecke Decode TS-1, which I've been using for a while to mixed success (not all of our cameras can shoot true 24), but I have it within my budget to include a newer model, like the TS-3 in my rental package. From what I can see reading about the newer models, not much as changed, but maybe there's something I'm missing as I've never actually put my hands on anything other than the TS-1? My question is pretty s…

I'm starting a commercial shoot with an Alexa this weekend and I want to try using a TS-C as the timecode source for jamming the camera (or at least have the option). I know the 1/4 inch input on the slate is tc tip, ground sleeve, but is the slate outputing tc on this same jack? My tc cables are of the bi-directional xlr to lemo type. Is it simply a matter of adapting the 1/4 inch to xlr male and running to camera? I'll rent the slate the night before and give it a go, but I thought I'd check in here as well. Thanks and good luck out there.

Got thinking about it be soundslikejustin's post: "A timecode slate, if required, is the property and responsibility of the sound dept, but is used by the camera dept. A traditional clap slate (at least on the jobs i work on) is solely the responsibility of the camera dept. " Why is this? I my mind, if there is a piece of equipment that is used constantly by the camera department, it should be the camera department's. I realize that sound is responsible for timecode, but does that mean we should have to bring the camera dept a slate to use and abuse? I worked on a Union show where A slate was a rental and B slate was the sound mixer's. The AC's would bri…
