So as not to clutter up "View From The Office," I'll start a new topic. Sonosax has SX-ES64 info on their web site. This new little cutie is listed as "now shipping." They also have the manual, block diagrams, and connector wiring diagrams. http://www.sonosax.ch/mixers/sxes64/sxes64_index.html Hopefully, Glen T. will favor us with a review soon. John B.

I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience with the mixer. I’m a big fan of Sonosax pres but would love to keep my 688/CL12 setup (also, I can’t afford a big Sonosax mixer). I was thinking of this as a front end to my 688 and to put in a bag for smaller jobs.

The r4 arrived yesterday. I picked it up in the evening and spend using it untill midnight. I'm having a hard time dialog editing at the studio today I really love this small machine! A few things I notice: - Not a lot of headphone output, I use a beyerdynamic DT48 (25 ohm). I think sonosax recommend to use headphones greater than 30 ohm... - Headphone output distorts quit fast, when screaming or short loud signals are recorded. In the recording everything sounds fine.. - When switching from pre-rec to play-mode the phantom power is automatically switched off which results in 0 dbfs loud spikes on all the channels and headphone out... I also sen…

I have been offered to buy a Sonosax SX-R4 at a good price. I presume that the preamps will be wonderful. I have two Sonosax SX42 mixers, and much prefer their preamps to the ones in my Sound Devices 744t. I am bit concerned about recording on a hard drive with moveable parts (the SX-R4 only records two channels onto an CF-card), but reckon I can put in an SSD. How about the A-D converters? Considering that it's a machine from 2003? And are there any quirks I should be aware of? The later model, SX-R4+, seems much lauded on this forum. But at the moment, I can't afford it. Many thanks!

Hello, Just wondering if anyone knows if the HP crackle still existing on dynamic (LOUD) material on the SX-R4? Was this fixed with a firmware update? Is this just a HP impedance issue? I'm getting conflicting information. Thanks, John

Hi everyone, First of all let me introduce myself. I'm Arnoud Traa a sound designer/recordist from the Netherlands. I've been checking this forum for quite a while, too inform myself about new and older recorders and mic's. Recently I took the plunge and bought a second hand Sonosax SX-R4 to finally have a recorder that allows me to record 4 tracks with nice (really nice) preamps. I've been recording a lot and am very happy with it! But there seems to be a small issue with writing the record buffer in takes. Sometimes it's pitched up for the first few seconds, as if the sample rate has been changed or someting. I've only recorded in 96/24, so I'll check…

Now that we’re in 2023. This fine unit’s life cycle is going on 9 years old. Has anyone heard of an imminent update? Thanks.

Hello, We are thinking to develop a surface control for the SONOSAX SX-R4+ and the SONOSAX AD8+, and we will be happy to receive your ideas and suggestions. My best wishes to all for great sounds!

Hi guys, I've been offered to buy a Sonosax Sx-S 8 from the 90s and it looks super clean. I'm curious what kind of maintenance or overhauls these particular mixers might need? I know perfectly well about Sonosax's great reputation, but since this mixer isn't offered cheap (almost 4000 usd) I want to know what I might be getting into. If you guys have any advice as to what I should check or look out for when I go see it, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chris

This topic might be a little outdated but I was curious if anyone had an opinion on the differences in the sound between the SX-S and SX-ST. I picked up an SX-S 8 a little while ago for practically nothing. So far I'm very happy with the sound and was just wondering what/if I'm missing out on ;). Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

There is a Sonosax SX-ST for sale on Ebay. This is the big Sonosax, not the "little" ES64 or one of the earlier models (all of them still excellent); it's the current version console mixer. This particular example has 9 inputs. So far there are no bids. The seller has a Buy-It-Now price of only $8000 but bids are accepted starting at $4000. (This is for a mixer that normally sells for about $25,000 new.) There are only about fourteen hours left in this auction period - it expires a bit after 11 AM tomorrow, April 10 (California time). Of course it may be re-listed. The seller is located in Lausanne, Switzerland. I apologize for the short notice. I've been t…

So I’ve been using a Sonosax SX-ST semi-regularly (not mine) and there’s a few things that still mystify me. Maybe some of the long time Sonosax users can enlighten me here. No output limiters? Really? I was surprised and asked Sonosax about this and was told that since it has always-on input limiters that one would never overload the output unless using a large amount of fader gain. Well then! I suspect the guys at Sonosax have never tried to mix a scene with mumbled whispers plus action even if that action is an unexpected folder slapping a desk or someone accidentally kicking a chair... when you’re adding 30dB of gain to pull out some ridiculous whisper just…

I've owned my SX62R for two years and have experienced the good/bad/ugly of this unit with respect to firmware issues/hardware issues/customer service issues. I would like to share my unresolved queries and ask for feedback and additional comments to provide momentum which could be carried to Switzerland as an expedience maker of resolutions. When I contacted Pierre at Sonosax in November, he was gracious yet feedback is limited & answers were unclear. As for example, I've given my feedback about issues with limited capabilities of metadata handling (i.e. folder naming limited to 8 characters) as compared to Sound Devices/Zaxcom and assured that solutions woul…

Hello, I'm looking for input/opinions on the SX62R & or the SX-R4. I need a 6(with 6 pres) channel recorder that will do 24/192. I've read the other sonnsax thread but am looking for updated info. I can't "try" one out here in Canada as there isn't a single one in Toronto as far as I know. Specifically I'm interested in the quality/colour of the pres and how they compare to SD, Zaxx etc. I'm currently a SD user but unfortunately they don't offer a 6 pre solution that can record at 192 in a single unit. Thanks, John

This thing has been avail for about a year now, but I don't hear much of anything about them. Trew still has them listed at $6100. Is anyone here using one of these, and if so how is it going? Philip Perkins

Hi All, At the risk of sparking derision from the veterans, I have three Sonotrim lavs (all with external powering units with battery compartments). How can I know whether they are positive or negative ground when run through lectro wireless units, in order to ensure that they are not out of phase? I also have an equal number of TRAM 50's also with external units, some with battery compartments, some without. The question would also extend to these mics, and mixing them with the sonotrims. Thanks RL

I may have use for a low cost wireless solution like these SONY UWP units. These are the same ones that use some digital technology but are essentially analog wireless. When first on the market they were refereed to as Digital Hybrid but I think Lectrosonics has the lock on that one. I don't for a minute think these are comparable to my Zaxcom pure digital wireless or the Lectro units (or even most probably the budget offerings from Sennhesier like the G3 or is it G4 units). My main question is, they are in the 600 mhz range and I have not been keeping up on what is potentially going on in that range --- those who know more about this, is 600 mhz going to be a problem…

Does anyone here in Los Angeles (or perhaps in Canada?) have a working system to do a single tape transfer on a Sony 1630? I have someone (in Canada) who purchased a tape on eBay and would like to convert it for listening. Minor monetary compensation awaits you If you have any leads feel free to contact me directly or comment here. Thanks!
