I have a Sound Devices 302. When I plug into the video camera via my umbilical I send tone and adjust the level using Line input and Manual on the camera. I reset my 302 to defaults to be sure. Now I have worked with a few Video cams and many you cant actually get a detailed dB level view, just red bars of danger at the end. On most modern video cameras even if the level on the camera is on 10 (max) my tone does not reach the red, I can get it maybe 3/4 of the way. On a Panasonic HPX370 winding the levels on the camera past 8 gives me no more signal. Am i understanding it all wrong? I guess it gives me extra headroom for when i fall asleep which is not a bad thing. If Im…

Does anyone have an expierience recording to a DEVA via the AES inputs being fed from the 01v96? The mixer on my cart provides wordclock to my recorders, however there is no option to set the sample rate to 48048 on the board. Should I be using the DEVA as the master clock and forcing the 01v96 to run off the pulled up sample rate? Will this result in any audio artifacts? Any thoughts or comments?

I read that the new brace of Yamaha FOH boards have really simplified multitrack recording off them. I assume they have Nuendo Live in mind (since Yamaha owns Steinberg). Is there any word/rumor of an update to the 01V96 that would do the same thing? It would be WAY cool if the board could be the interface, so all you needed was a computer and drives. phil p

First off this isn't a question about how to run wireless, I've chosen to keep the receivers on the cart and use high gain antennas. I'm looking to add 2 more remote antennas. It sounds simple and I've heard reference to some of you having these in the forum, but I can't seem to find one to purchase. I'm running 8 diversity receivers through a PSC 1x8 multi dual antenna splitter. That gives me 16 RF outputs with 2 RF inputs, in my case PW's helicals. But I want to be able to run 4 helicals, keeping 2 on the cart (usually enough for all situations, 25' of RG8 apiece), and the other 2 for longer remote runs when necessary. So I want 4 RF inputs to the PSC box,…

Hey all, I've had sound devices stuff for years. I just tried to update to 1.05 and now my 664 won't boot. When I try, a yellow light just comes on the top right. While verifying, it went 100%. While applying update, it went to 98% and quit, trying 3 additional times. It had a dialog that said it failed and to press okay. I did, and now its dead. Won't boot. I've tried leaving the batteries out for a while, still nothing. ??

Hi everybody, I’m thinking about the best antenna for my bag setup: - 888 - AudioWireless DADM226 distribution - Wisycom MCR42 and MPR30 Recievers My dealer sold me 1/2 wave Shure antennas: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1434782-REG/shure_ua8_470_636_wideband_antenna_for_front.html But I'm not happy with the lenght, as stick out of my bag pretty much. So I'm thinking about 1/4 wave antennas. The DADM BNC connectors are next so each other so I have to put at least one cable for one antenna to have different positions. I'd also like to mount at least one of the antennas to my ORCA harness at shoulder height to have a higher posi…

I have a Nagra IV-S machine which I used to transfer quite a few 2 track tapes to digital. However, the utility of the machine as a transfer and home audio deck would be magnified a thousandfold if I were able to play 1/4 track tapes on it, of which I have A LOT, as well as 2 track. As a safe transport for old delicate tapes it has no equal. I was thinking that maybe a 1/4 track playback head could be installed where the pilotone head is, and could be switched in and out of the playback amp. Has anyone ever heard of such a conversion? Has anyone here ever converted a Nagra into a 1/4 track machine? Or know anyone who could do such a thing? Has anyone here ever SEEN a …

Help me, fellow oldsters! I have a gig for which I need to use my venerable but neglected Nagra IV-S. The machine is still set up for 3M 968. Is there a 1/4" tape currently being made that uses close to the same setup+bias etc? ATR? 7" reels needed, plan to use Nagramaster.....

Would anyone know where to purchase a 10-feet XLR cable from in the UK? I've got a box full of Neutrik XLR connectors so I'd be more than happy to get the soldering iron out if this would be a cost-effective option. Thanks all

Hi guys, Just curious on the performance of my QRX100s + two LAs. I have drop off less than 10 meters away, BUT the condition is like this: 1. A big gathering, about 500 people in a 400 meter square courtyard. It''s like two subjects on LAs were 10 meters away, IN between there might be 5-10 people cross in and out. 2. One of my Sanken Cos-11D 's lemo head was broken, so I found someone fixed it with a new lemo head, even though I instructed how the soldering should be wired, but I didn't see how he did it. (kind of his secret maybe, to not let me see it. Charged 50USD, with a Chinese knock off lemo... I know... I am just not capable of doing soldering ;( ). …

as the owner of a yamaha 01v, I don't want to buy a stinkin' cl-6 for my 664. Has anybody out there figured out how to unlock 7-12 without it? I've tried shorting various pins on the ribbon cable port to no avail. Sorry if this topic has already been covered a bunch of times, and thanks for the help! -S

Hoping Glenn would chime in here Interested other opinions and ideas relating to a wish list for the next DEVA Would 12 or even 10 (full size xlr) actual physical mic lines on a future Deva be something most would be interested? Not that it would be used all the time but when its needed it could really simplify things. Also ZAXNET to be added I would assume is a no brainer what other options would you have on your wish list?

For the Cart based folks here, How do you distribute power? Do you use a battery? or a 12 volt power supply? Can you put a charger on your battery while using it? I'm looking at PSC Cart Power, and Remote Audio Hotbox. The PSC has built in 8 amp power supply although I'm not sure it would be enough to run a Cooper 106, Deva2, SD 702t, a Monitor and a Venue. I'm also building pelican battery with a SLA 33aH batt, any recommendations for a charger? thanks, Larry Long

I soldered a 45W car charger to 4 pin XLR and tried charging my macbook. Although it charges at first, a few minutes later it breaks the connection due to what I think is the "Power Delivery negotiation protocol". I guess the computer negotiates a voltage, and wattage through a circuit board found in apple brand ac adapters, and other licensed by apple products. After doing some digging, I found this: USB Type C Power Converter with 5V, 9V, 12V, 15V & 20V Power Delivery - PD60: https://www.bixpower.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=BX-DD60PD&CartID=1 Anyone have success with cheaper alternatives? Thank you

Assembling my first bag, tired of turning down work ( I'm a post guy ) So far bag consists of Wendt x5 Fostex fr2 w/ timecode card 2 Sennheiser g3 Sennheiser 416 Remote audio BDSv4 Batteries for Broadcast NP-1 So here's the question... The Fostex FR2 will only accept 12vDC. I am building a voltage regulator but not sure where to put it. I can put it post BDS to only supply 12v to the Fostex and 14.3 to the x5 and wireless, or put it pre BDS and supply 12v to everything. Thinking regulating the whole thing might give me a little extra battery life but think feeding the x5 14.3 might improve the headroom. Thoughts?

Was wondering if FORREST FORBES still does mods on the Mackie ONYX mixers. Found a post on R.A.M.P.S that said he used to. Also see that he is with Coffey Sound now.

I saw this on the Coffee site and wondered: would anyone ever use this now? It's really only a 16 footer which my large poles handle just fine. What sort of projects might this be useful for? Has anyone on the group had experience with this equipment? Would you need your own union (read IA) dolly grip to move it around during setup or shots? How flexible would it be for a moving (or multiple) target? http://www.coffeysound.com/product.php?productid=753&cat=122&page=1 Just killin time.... Eric Lamontagne

Anyone know of a good analogue mixer that would replace a modified Mackie Onyx 1620? Can’t be more than 18” wide. They don’t make them anymore and I’m wary of used ones on ebay. Thanks Mick
