Hello I just wrapped the first feature with my new combo SD888+SL2 +wisycom MCR54x2. it was a great setup to work with. Only one thing was quite annoying: I had antenna cables made with SMA on one end and BNC on the other one. is it just me or really the position of the 2 SMA connectors on the SL2 was not designed with efficiency in mind ? The ergonomic is terrible and it is a real pain to screw and unscrew the SMAs from the SL2. The MCR54 are quite high above the level where the connectors are and that makes access to the connectors very narrow, especially once in the bag which is always for me (Ktek smallX stingray.) I have to find a solution for a mor…

Hi, I have heard that the SL6 RF distribution is passive and that the RF signal loses 6 dB. Has anybody measured it ? Does it mean that the wireless range is not as good as when the antenna is plugged directly in the receiver ?

Hi all, First post...needing advice. I have a little cash and want to upgrade gear. Im a run and gunner vidiot for 10 yrs or so. Current gear is SD302, Sennheiser ME66 and 3 or 4 Sony wireless lav things. (Gear is limited and costly here in ZA), recording from mixer to camera and out to a Zoom h4n for some safety. I have maybe $5000 at a push to spend. I was thinking SD633 + bag, batteries, chargers, bells n whistles (cables&bag) + new MIcs for the sonys to replace the shitty stock ones and a Sennheiser 416. However...I would like to be able to connect maybe 4 or 5 mic level items to the mixer on occasion (cant afford Lectrosonics (which can output…

Is anyone on here using/has used the USBPre 2 usb interface? I've been having strange problems since I got it relating to Pro Tools. It's a strange occasional audio delay, the timeline cursor will move then I'll hear audio about a second later. The video engine also crashes whilst this is happening. This is my second unit as the first one was replaced on warranty. I've done everything under the sun to try and remedy it to no avail. My theory is it's a driver issue (I'm on windows 10). Of course I've been dealing with Sound Devices support for a while now but they're stumped too.

I think there are many in the sound community that don't like to see Sound devices making video recorders. So I want to share my new rig for sit down interviews what is 90% of what I do. I'm personally very happy with this and of course I don't want to change anybody's opinion. i can carry everything I need on my backpack, ride my my bike, I don't need to be watching the directors or Dp monitor to have a sense of framing

Hi There, I am new to sound recorders, I shoot DSLR and I use a H4n for sound. It did the job so far but today I am very interested in upgrading my sound kit and get proper sound for interviews. I am interested in 2 different models and I am not sure they are comparable - SD722 used for $1400 ( no warraranty, HD of 40Gb early models, good condition, CF cards, firewire only for transfer) http://www.sounddevi...m/products/722/ - Fostex DC-R302 for $1199 ( new underwarranty, SD cards and usb transfer, can be used as an audiointerface on your mac, little gadget here and there for DSLR shooters but can be used as a mixer/ recorder separately) http://www…

Hey Guys, I was looking into a way to interact with my 788T via a tablet or PC of some kind and there appears to be no really good option anymore. The CL-Wifi didn't work that great when I had one, and the app appears to be no longer supported on the app store. The Wave Agent control mode leaves a bit to be desired and isn't really meant to be used to control the machine/arm & disarm tracks, etc. I want to write an app to control my 788T via a mac desktop and the usb port on the 788T with the 788T set to Wave Agent Control Mode. I've written some mac software before in the past, and this seems like what I'd want to do is pretty si…

Hello everyone! One of the great uses for MixPre 6 that I see is a very portable Ambisonics recorder for ambiences and other SFX. The golden rule of SFX recording is to sort them and supply with SoundMiner metadata as early as you can because otherwise you'll hardly ever find the recordings (hello my over 50 GBs from university times). So, is it technically possible to make a version of Wingman app that would have metadata fields (I'll name them the way as SM does) such as Description, BWFDescription, Comments and maybe some other SM fields? It can be much more handy to fill these in while you're recording or right after it. For a long time I thou…

Now Sound Devices has bought the company, they're taking it a step further than just being another's distributor. Even tighter integration is surely on the cards. https://www.newsshooter.com/2018/04/16/sound-devices-goes-wireless/

Hi i got problem with my XL1394... I am using a external battery (14V) to power up the 744T, and it powerup fine... But when i attach my XL1394 in to read my external hard-disk, the LED on the 744T for external hard-disk keep blinking, and refuse to read my external hard-disk... I tried connecting my external hard-disk direct to the 744T, 744T read the Hard-disk well... Does anyone know, what is the cause of the XL1394 not allowing the 744T to read my external hard-disk? Thanks...

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a recorder mainly for recording various sound effects; no recording of live gigs/ music, interviews, dialogue etc. I'm particularly interested in the available Sound Devices recorders but I'm wondering if the newer models of the MixPre series keep up with older, more expensive models of the 7 and 6 series regarding sound quality (for what I want to do with them). So if I want the best preamps/ sound quality for recording sound effects, which one is the best option (I would like to see which one of those options would give me the best sound first, and only then start looking at the different features of those record…

I own a 744T but it's simply not enough tracks for me. I'm starting to do bigger, better projects, with more speaking roles. SO, my question is simple: I'd like people's opinions on whether I should purchase the Sound Devices 664 (with option of adding the CL-6), the Sound Devices 788T, (Not necessarily a mixer/recorder all in one, but still, a great digital recording tool) or a Zaxcom Nomad 10. Tossups: Buying a 664 = Buying a new bag. I have the Petrol Eargonizer Large. I thought this was as big as they get!? Buying a 664 or Nomad 10 means I need a whole new battery distribution system. Expensive right away, but I know it's worth it in the long run. …

Anyone here ever torn down recent model recorder? I've seen a few pics of the insides of various microphones here on the forums, but it would be interesting to see the internal workings of a current recorder and the different approches of various manufacturers: analog sections, design choices, microprocessor, etc. I'd contribute myself, but i don't think my rental house would appreciate it.

Their (previous?) website domain appears to be parked: http://sound-guys.com/ Google doesn't reveal a new or different website. And their Facebook page hasn't been updated in a month: https://www.facebook.com/SoundGuysSolutions/ Are they just on hiatus, have they shut down and moved on?

Hi everyone, I just got this in and thought I'd share just in case anyone was looking for something like this for their bag. Recently I've started using my iPad Mini for Wingman and I was looking around for something to mount it to my bag. This seemed to be the only ready-made thing out there that I could find, and it works pretty well so far! A few nitpicks on it, none of them dealbreakers to me. I wish it would've come with some velcro strips included. Wasn't a problem for me because I already had a big roll, but I would've been sad otherwise (not a very big deal at all though). Since it's plastic I could see there being longevity issues with it, I probably …

Hello, Longtime lurker, first-time poster. Thank you in advance for your help! I didn't realize how long this post was going to be when I started, so my apologies I'm a Director/Producer who usually has a sound department and a regular crew with rented equipment, but I have decided to own a bit of kit for smaller productions to get a little more nimble, have some more hands-on experience with the operational aspects, and for the sake of enjoyment (I dabble quite a bit in sound editing and mixing during post, as well as music, and I have a pretty decent home music studio). I am hoping to get some feedback on my proposed kit and a couple different c…

Hello everyone! I'm a fairly new sound mixer that's been working for roughly two years now and I'm looking to upgrade my kit lately. Currently I'm using a Tascam DR-680 with two Sennheiser G3's. I'm looking to upgrade to a small kit (Possibly 633,664, or the Nomad). Then I was hoping I could get advice on what direction I should go wireless wise? It seems like these new Zaxcom 200 series would last me better in the long run. Looking to also be able to send signal to a two camera set up and also have signal going to scripty, director, producer, etc.
