With auto-mixing becoming a common tool in all sorts of large unscripted and scripted production, 16-ch of Dugan Automix can be a real boon. We've just released a Scorpio v2 update which includes it. Paul

If a 16-channel location mixing desk could be created for your SD PIX recorder what features would be a must-have? I am assuming SD are not going to create a CL-16 so if you could design a hybrid control surface / analogue to Dante mixer which features would you include and what would you leave out to keep costs down?? Would you give such a concept crowd funding support if we could find a manufacture to take on such a task? My must have features would be: 12v DC, Dante, 16x Line-in only inputs (save on cost of pre-amps and stick a MixPre in-line for your boom channels), L/R outputs, 2x Aux outputs, Penny and Giles faders. Do we really need EQ or Comms ports?…

Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone is using a boom pole at 17' and longer with an internally coiled cable. I have a K-tek 12'6" coiled internally, and seem to be fine swinging it around without any cable slap. My biggest worry is the cable slap since its a longer pole. Any thoughts or suggestions? - Jeffery

Hey Everyone, I've been powering my Cooper CS-106 from my Remote Audio Meon, which only gives out 12 volts. It's been working fine with no issues. I heard that the noise floor of the mixer is greatly reduced when you power it with 18 volts instead of 12 volts. I guess I have 2 questions: Is this true? If so, does anyone know of any reliable product that can convert the voltage from my Meon? All i've been able to find are things made for car batteries like this: http://www.powerstream.com/dc-2171.htm I wasn't sure if the conversion that a unit like this would do would introduce anything nasty power-wise into the mixer or not. Any info would be…

Hi all, my next film includes a low budget film crew in the cast and props require an authentic looking period sound kit. Set up will be a simple rec / headphone boompole / mic kit. Interested in the following info if anyone can help: Model of Nagra (or other rec?) in common use then Boom Mic (presume 416) Mic suspension XLR connectors boompole (I have an old aluminum panamic doc boom that I bought 2nd hand in the early 90's..?) Headphones (poss have a pair of old DT48's but a more comfortable option maybe preferred!) Photos of any of it would be much appreciated also. Thank you! Chris.

Hello everybody! For the last three four months, I've been looking for a model name for some wireless microphones used in 1980s Japanese music programs, but couldn't find any information about them. By any chance would there be anyone who recognizes any of these mics? I first thought the microphone in the first three pictures is neumann, but I realized that they're from 2000s.

-Posted this a few days ago on ye olde ramps, and thought I would pick the jw forumites brains as well. Just noticed a few of these on the used market.. I'm talking about the black-colored Zaxcoms with the Tx that has dual lemo inputs on the top (which, oddly, seems to be a better design than their newer model). I'm thinking it may be an option to use as a wireless camera link for my ENG/doc kit (and save some $$). However I have no hands-on experience with any Zaxcom wireless units and know very little about this particular, older, unit's reputation. Searching the archives pulls up relatively little about the Stereoline.. some people seem happy, but some pe…

Hi all, I'm looking for two 1U sliding (and hopefully locking) rack shelves that will fit a standard SKB case (front to rear rails = 15.75"). I have read here that there are no "off the shelf" products available for these cases, but have seen many photos here of some of your carts that seem to feature these shelves -- so hoping someone here can point me in the right direction to a product or a jerry-rig solution. Thanks much! nvt

I remember having seen a topic on the forum with a 2-batts rig and wondererd if it's as simple as having two battery cups mounted in parallel to feed the distro ? My NP1s are slowly fading away and I'd take the opportunity to go from NP1s to the lighter Hi-Q batts in the process. I'd simply buy a new batt and single charger, put a battery cup in parallel with my NP1 cup in my bag and go from there. Now, usually, things are not that simple; would that be a situation where it is indeed ''just that'' and I can pop the champagne ?

Howdy. Heading to Atlanta to record 4 people on 2 cams. I didnt want to mix down the 4 lavs to 2 channels, and all I have is a 552, so I brought in another sound person w another 552 for cam2. I figure I'll run 2 mics (1-l & 1-r) through each 552, and send mic 1&2 to a cam 1&2 and mic 1&2 to b cam 3&4. Then send mic 3&4 to a cam 3&4, and mic 3&4 to bcam 1&2. Does this make sense? Tring to get all 4 mics iso'd on each.cam. Also. Using pana 2700's- do I need to futz the menu to get agc off when using 3&4 audio in? I'll moni 1&2 audio in, but I haven't ever input into 3&4; any ankle biters there? Thanks jcc

Hello everybody. I want to send to Comtek lines. One for my boom op and the other for the rest of the crew. Idea one: I use two seperate antennas (Lectrosonics SMA600) for each line. Idea two: I combine both antenna signals into one antenna splitter (Sennheiser ASP212 passive) and send the signal out via one antenna. This idea is my prefered one. Less clutter with cables. But do the two signals alter each other when sent through one antenna? How do you do it? And recommendations and experiences?

I understand multiple inputs are regularly combined into one antenna system for in ear music monitors. Is it possible to combine the output of 2 Comtek base stations into one antenna? TIA.

Ive been asked to help give advice (probably free) for some people hosting a bike race here in South Africa. There is the post race gibber and IVs etc. The guy wants 10 (mono prob) outs from the 2 in he is getting (Interviewer and Talent). Ive not done this before but suspect it may be an issue as when I do live stuff and ask for a feed from the desk (even fancy big ones) they (engineers) are always reluctant and outs are often at a premium at big events. Im inclined to make sure we get a great copy of the audio and if the press need good audio they can get it from us after the event (maybe even during). Is there some kind of splitter box to take the stereo out …

hi there, if you can share some of your expertise i would greatly appreciate it. i'm a sound editor currently building a recording kit. for the sake of having a less bulkier Rycote i'm entertaining the idea of buying a mono Rycote and piggybacking one mic on top of the other to have am M/S setup (mkh 30/40). i've seen this done by sound mixers when they've posted pics on their blogs or other. my first question is there going to be a problem when higher winds are involved? has anyone done this and liked the result or found that the top mic became more sensitive to wind coming through the zeppelin? i can see myself recording here in Montreal during a winter snow st…

Is anyone here using 1 mono shotgun/hyper and 1 stereo mic housed together in 1 blimp? I'm considering placing a stereo mic like the AT BP4025 underneath a CS-3e in the same blimp to capture stereo along with mono. Seems like a simpler way to do it than M/S for times when the post guys aren't comfortable with decoding M/S. I suppose this means there'll be two (three?) cables out of the blimp (3 pin XLR for CS-3e and set of 3 pin XLRs for BP4025). I'd be recording onto 3 channels, but it seems like a handy setup for docs or to get FX with the option of a little stereo ambience with it. What do you guys reckon?

The Sound Devices A20-TX seems to give us all the goodness of the A20-Mini, but in a bigger form factor (similar to the previous A10-TX). Such as that massively super wideband capabilities, but now it is even wider: of 169 to 1525 MHz, with VHF being included as well. Also adds in the Phantom Power capabilities and longer run time of the previous gen A10-TX which many people wished the A20-Mini had (but couldn't due to its miniature size). Price for the Sound Devices A20-TX is US$2,450. First difference that immediately leaps out is that the A20-TX has 3x AA (vs 2x AA of the A10-TX): Battery run time is "up to 12hrs" fo…

Just wondering if anyone has used this configuration? I am interested to see how reception held up as I believe the diversity antennas on the QRX with one TRX becomes 2 single antennas with 2 TRXs coming into the same QRX in 2 channel mode. Hope that made sense... CRAIG

Hey all, In San Francisco at the moment doing a reality build show and we need to rent some 2 ways with ear pieces for Tuesday 21st August. We are doing a shoot in Union Square, right in the thick of it, will be madness... The last place we used seemed quite pricey. We probably need up to 6 two way radios with ear pieces. Anyone know a place in San Francisco Bay Area that rents these? Thanks for any help! Jason

I have seen a official picture, there is a 2,4GHz antenna on the new SX-R4+ from Sonosax. Does SX-R4+ has some similar function like ZaxNet? That will be really cool.! Here the picture: http://www.sonosax.ch/news/SONONEWS_2016_04_EN.pdf

I recently got a 2.4 GHz amp for Zaxnet. But when powering my amp. My QRX200 (connected to my Micplexer 2 with whips) scans show up as very crowded when I pull power to the amp the scans clear up. Anyone else use a 2.4Ghz amp and have any advise/recommendations?

I was wondering if any of you guys/gals out there are using a 2.4 GHz amp in your bag setup along side the Wingman bluetooth dongle. I currently run an IFB200 in my bag for TC/scratch to camera and have added a 1W amp to that setup. I've already successfully shut down the 2.4 wifi in my apartment with this amp and it got me thinking about bluetooth devices working nearby. I don't currently own the Wingman dongle so I figured I'd see if anyone here is running that combo with success. I did test using a bluetooth keyboard w/ my 633 while the amp was working and it worked fine. Thanks in advance! Thomas
