As many of you know, my knowledge and understanding of RF is sketchy at best, so I need some guidance regarding my new 2.4 Ghz (WiFi) antenna. This antenna, a 10dbi directional 2.4 Ghz antenna, is to be used with the Zaxcom IFB system. It would fit best, physically and functionally, positioned between the 2 Zaxcom log periodic receiving antennas I now use for the wireless. The wireless I use are in essentially Block 21 but the antennas, of course, are broadband 400 to 800. Question is, what is the likelihood that the 2.4 Ghz transmission is going to interact with the 520 - 580 mhz wireless receivers? I am going to set it up this way and do some real world testing, but …

I am an excited new owner of Zaxcom's wireless boom, comprising the TRX992, RX900S and IFB100. I have just finished a 2 day commercial where there was a lot of Steadicam work. We had problems with the Steadicam's video feed via the "Titan TxRx Transvideo" and I got the blame for using my IFB100 on 2.4 GHz! Have any of you encountered the same problem? This is worrying especially after getting excited by the possibilities of Zaxnet. Is there a way around this problem? Alan

Noticed that my amp now shows a red indicator light on the TX side. RX side = green. This is the unit: http://www.l-com.com/item.aspx?id=20075 Troubleshooting, I now read this on the above-linked page: Note: This Hyperlink bi-directional amplifier is designed for burst half-duplex operation. It is not intended for constant transmit or CW operation. Operation of the amplifier in CW mode will damage the amplifier and void the warranty. I think I've damaged the amplifier and -- argh! -- voided the warranty. No! Did a walk test, and reception was better with the antenna direct to the IFB100. Guess I'm in the market for a new 2.4GHz amplifier…

Hi all I'm now on my 3rd 1/4 wave (I think...) R/A rubber ducky antenna for the IFB TX part on my Zaxcom QRX100. Its in an awkward position and this allows it to be banged and hit by the camera guys when they carry their camera over the shoulder on the camera strap. The end result after about 3 months is a sadly bent and miserable looking antenna - and only God knows what stresses this puts on whatever is in the QRX box behind the antenna... So, my question is - does anyone know of any suitable alternatives to the supplied antenna? Something less rigid than the rubber ducky is what I'm after. So, I'm now going to try a R/A Remote Audio antenna which h…

Using a laird fiberglass omni antenna with a 1 watt amplifier using zaxnet. I get occasional bursts at almost any distance of the same sound of getting too close to the zaxnet antenna. Only happens on my lectro uh400 & hm. Called manufacturer and they had absolutely no idea. Using an RFVenue uhf antenna which sits around 3 feet from 2.4 ghz antenna. Nomad 10. Tried different things & it still happens...can't reproduce it. Any opinions? Thx! Tim

I've got 4 UCR200's 2ea in 21/26 which I've been using the last couple of years and a 411/400a - I feel the 200's are all overdue for a good service but being based in NZ this comes at a reasonable cost so I'm weighing up whether to try sell them and upgrade or service them. Can anyone comment on any performance gains they noticed post service? I also have to factor in not having them for however long it takes.

I'm always mystified by the difference between the lectrosonics 201 and 211, and its next generation 401 and 411. i now hav a deal for a used pair of 201s which costs cheaper than the pair of 211s. so just like to find out if the difference in performance is worth the difference in cost

Did I miss this list for 2012? Or has it not happened yet? I doubt that it's an annual thing, but I just stumbled across the 2011 version and it was a good read. With the holidays and the end of year tax write-off purchases in full swing, I figured somebody would start a list of some sort. I've just bought little stuff and backups this year and am on the fence about a 664. Want it, but not sure I can use it/justify it/pay it off in my market, doing the work I normally do. Anybody, anybody? Dave Wendlinger

So when Jimmy Fallon was, in tuxedo, after walking briskly onto stage and doing a tap dance, a wired device appeared to emanate, from one of his pant legs. Fury believed perceived that, suddenly, a tear appeared, in the eye of whomever, was responsible for that occurrence, and, thence, Fury believed that he would drown. How common is wardrobe transmitter placement failure and what is the most common causality and remediation, if you please? Thanking you very much Fury

Hi All - thanks to one of our esteemed members i am now the proud owner of an RK3 rack for my Audio 2040's (Thanks Tim!) but i am now hungry and greedy for more range. Or more specifically more solidity of signal. I have looked at a few options of dipoles and Yagi's but they are all quite expensive or not quite right for my purposes. Am i correct in thinking that if i go for the Yagi's then the signal will be narrowed - if i'm in the right 'beam' i will get higher gain, but if i miss the signal i will get little or nothing? That sounds useful for long distances or line of sight outside, but i'm working in thick walled buildings with lots of other rf and metal object…

Dear wise JWers, Can someone please explain if there is a noticeable difference in range when using 216mhz vs 682mhz? Im guessing the higher the better... but thats the theory.. I did do some reading: http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/site/af9d127e26abf498/ But if anyone can chime in I would appreciate... Im looking into alternatives to the Comtek system (I like them and usually rent them... but $$$). Pretty much every other manufacturer offers 10mw transmitters over varying frequencies and 300' feet range line of sight... but there must be differences in "real life" scenarios (I know, I know, you get what you pay for). Still, these look interesting, s…

I was checking out sweetwater and saw this on the new arrivals page; http://www.cymaticaudio.com/index.php/products/ Other than 24 track recorder, clock, 15V 1.5amp DC (that's 22.5 Watts) features, 2.7 second pre-roll (it says the pre-roll time changes due to track count, etc.. on the manual), markers, PFL (don't know if we could technically call this pfl), audio interface functionality, MAC/PC/iPad connectivity... Looks pretty cool. Missing data entry and TC and not expecting a "main recorder" reliability but... at this price, makes me wanna get it as a (little overkill) backup on my cart. And I gotta say I like the orange color and the oversized REC button.

Go a job Monday with for American tv but am based in the UK. production have asked for 29.97fps which shouldn't be a problem but just thought I would run it by those those know. I'm recording on my SD 788t and using a Locket Tiny for time of day time code on the F55. In theory set camera, recorder and Locket to 29.97 and off I go but does anyone know of any else that I need to know problem wise. Many thanks

We have seen the 552, USB Pre and Mix Pre redux in the past few years. I am hoping that Sound Devices is planning a 302 redux in the near future. What (realistic) upgrades would you like to see? I would like to see an onboard 2 track recorder like the 552 and meters with more resolution at the top end.

Hey Guys, Newbie to the site. I have an upcoming project and am considering buying a 2nd Shoeps CMIT to use for when I need to fly two booms. I am thinking that between them I can handle any situation (except maybe some low hanging ceilings). My problem is that I am intimidated by the price in the face of all the other upgrades I will be doing for this project. I know I can spend less and buy a pair of 416's or CS3's to match each other for double booming situations but neither will ever match my CMIT which I use for just about everything else. Any suggestions?
