Here in SF the remaining shard of Lectro Block 27 is already occupied by DTV stations. I wondered if this was true everywhere? Philip Perkins

Anyone else use the Film Devices Rack n Bag setup? It's extremely expensive, but well made. I purchased it specifically because I don't like using an enclosed bag on the cart as I prefer access to the connectors. I use a PSC Eurocart that is mostly in pieces right now preparing for a movie, but this will be on the top shelf as a kind of open bag rig. Dual battery distros that can be swapped from cart power to bag power in a few minutes. I'll add more pics as I progress the build.

I'm currently in pre production on a surfing movie and have been looking into ways of protecting gear. I just came across this stuff and thought I'd share it : http://www.fitnessav.com/eGloop-Contact-Protector-p/egloop-10.htm Looks like a great way of protecting the weakest link!

I have plenty of experience with hiding lavs but not as much in protecting a COS11 and B6, mounted exposed and visible ENG style, from skyscraper-top wind. I feel like the basic wind protection they come with might not be enough and am concerned how overcovers and/or a lav furry will look. A.

Are there good windscreens and shock mounts to use an RE20 outdoors? The only stuff i see just covers the front section, and is a shockmount like we used on an arm for radio DJs. I've only really used them indoors for broadcast speaking and on amps in a studio, but every so often there are times I wonder if they would be good for outdoor field recordings of things like guns, cars, motorcycles etc. I always liked the sound of them, but maybe not the best for those situations.

Can anyone tell me the make of the microphone used in this photo? I believe that a Mole Richardson boom type 103B is what's holding the mic but I just don't know what type of mic is being used and if a hanger is holding it. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am wondering if there are any mixers (the equipment that is) that have an option to link faders with trims. If we are facing a very dynamic scene, we are forced to ride the levels two handed or leave the fader at 0dB and just use the trim / gain. Why isn´t it possible to link these two gain stages? With a digital mixer one can use the faders as input trims I guess? (flip mode) Sonosax gives the option to add 12dB gain before the fader but after the input gain, which is probably quite handy for going from whispers to screams. The input gain is to adjust the proper working point of the input, the fader for the levels within the mix. If the working point needs ad…

This new interface looks to have quite a few more features and function, unfortunately it is AC powered. Worth looking into. From MOTU site: "The 896mk3 provides eight channels of pristine 24-bit 192 kHz analog recording and playback, combined with sixteen channels of optical digital I/O, stereo AES/EBU, S/PDIF and separate analog main outs. Expand your system by connecting the 8pre mic input expander or other MOTU audio interfaces." http://www.motu.com/products/motuaudio/896mk3/features.html - Jeff Wexler

Came across this in TV Tech magazine and checked out the specs. Looks incredibly good for anybody who wants high def (or SD) pix for post editing and mixing, without having to put any stress on their DAW's computer. And B&H has it for $945. New. Nothing else needed except an SS drive and a cable. Plugs into your DAW's 9-pin port and emulates a VTR. Thoughts? Anybody have hands-on? http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/hyperdeckstudio/

Hi. I have the Lectrosonic UCR110 + UM110 in Block 33. I also have the according frequency chart which ranges to 861.900 at coarse A and fine B. I was curious and set them both to coarse F and fine F and they are working. Does they go higher up in frequency or does they stop at 861.900 ?

The search for a new mixing panel goes on... Soundcraft Spirit M8 Series mixer This looks like maybe an alternative to a Mackie 1604/1642 mixer (same weight, a couple of inches deeper and wider but you can take off the sides/rack mounts). It's got 100mm faders, switchable pre/post fader on the direct outs, professional grade connections throughout. No DC power of course. $759.00 online or at guitar center. Really wish I had put in that Cooper 208 order last year... http://www.soundcraft.com/product_sheet.asp?product_id=24

In anticipation of a ZMT phantom arriving in my grubby mits this week, I'm creating a relatively simple sleeve to protect the ZMT PH from the elements. I'm very much at the design stage, which means last night I woke up half a dozen times with what ifs and brilliant plans. Tac'd up a mock up today and the concept should work. Concept is a sleeve made from kite material (100% water proof), each opening sealed with velcro. Seam sealer on all stitching. Toying with putting a mesh pocket inside to hold a small desiccant bag and adding one or two elastic straps with toggles to tighten the whole sleeve up to avoid any rustling from the material in wind. I don't inten…

Hi All, Hope everyone is faring as well as can be expected, keeping stress levels down. With the current events, I am trying to set up the Zoom Video chat app on a recent Samsung Galaxy Tab A to facilitate internet guitar lessons with my students. I wonder if I can improve the audio quality and interface into the tablet using my MixPre 10T? I have no need to record anything, just want to have a mic for my speech, a direct guitar signal and perhaps a way to bring up my guitar students' incoming audio. Kind of working on the fly with what I have on hand. I have no idea about the USB audio capabilities of Android tablets.... will this wor…

Hi everyone. I'm looking for a new zeppelin for my KMR82i. The one I've been using is much longer than the mic and probably designed for a longer shotgun. Does anyone have any suggestions on a high quality blimp and windsock? Thanks in advance!

So, On my SD 552 sd card, I'm replacing left track with TC. For confidence, I play back to make sure I hear that crazy TC mp3 sound. I both hear and see nothing on the left track. I'm hoping SD knows TC is a really disturbing sound, and it's giving me silence out of both respect and necessity. Still, I wonder - did it record that crazy TC sound? When I remove and insert the card fresh, it plays back the TC sound. After it plays it back, and I scroll around and come back to same track, no TC sound. So here I sits in newbie wonder: Was this thing designed to only play back timecode after the SD card was freshly re-inserted, and was it "taught" to recognize TC a…

Hi, this is my first post here, I apologise if I didn't use the search function well enough. I have a couple of OST lavs wired for Senn wireless transmitters and I would like to employ them in a wired setup, I have seen some adapters (the Ambient EMP 3,5 for example) that are supposed to be the solution. Does anyone use these, any issues?

Hi just turned on my brand new QRX 200 Receiver to get this message: MCASP 1R = 3. If I press "up" during bootup, I get into the home screen and can use channel 2. Channel 1 has permanent and full uhf reception on every frequency. Has the unit to go to the mothership? And what does the failure code mean???

After updating my RF Explorer to firmware 1.20 I noticed that the battery charge only reaches 2/3rds I contacted the agent in Australia and another battery source in the USA "We cannot ship a lithium battery to New Zealand" were the responses. I guess that if I ordered a new unit complete with battery installed there would be no problem!!!??? Any suggestions folks? mike
