I'm running my Zoom F8 on a Talentcell 6000 mHz Li-On battery. I decided to add wireless, so now I need to power my SRb as well as my F8. Considering that I intend to keep adding to my kit, AudioRoot's BDS systems seem like they'll give me plenty of head room for expansion. If I buy their BG-DU, I'll be able to eventually upgrade to a an Inspired Energy battery, but for now is there any reason not to connect my Talentcell to a BG-DU, until I can afford the upgrade? Been researching a lot, and thought I'd run it by people with plenty of experience before making the purchase. Thanks y'all!

I have a job coming up where the main interviews will be recorded directly into an HDX-900, but they want to record some scenic shots, that may or may not have some on the fly dialog, on a 5D. They don't really want to pay for a rental for a sound devises recorder for the scenic shots. I own an Edirol R-09 recorder. If I record a wav file on the Edirol would that work? Is that going to screw them in post? Am I making a mistake by not making them rent a better recorder? Bob

Hi all! After last shoot I got back my g3 iem with a faulty display. The display is not broken "black", but roughly half of the screen in the middle area is simply not displaying any black (only orange). What is a way to fix this? Will replacing the screen work or is there more damaged with this symptom? Has anyone encountered the same problem before?

In my quest for the most compact bag possible, I purchased 2 x SMa transmitters to pair with my SRa receiver to use as links. I realised the more I used them, that the SMa's are really cumbersome when used as link transmitters. Two things really bothered me. The main one was that there is no confidence monitoring, in that I couldn't just look down easily and see the LED's bouncing away, as they are on the side of the unit, not on the top like the UM400's. (I did lose transmission once too!! The battery door came lose enough to kill the power, and I didn't know until I did my regular check, lucky for the backup in the 552!!) The other issue is that the un…

So I'm working with the QRX and the Sony XD cams using the IFB option by way of the 5 pin XLR out in the rear of the cam going into the QRX. Whenever the camera rolls te audio level drops dramatically. I've swathed to the headphone out and it works fine. It must be a camera setting but I can't seem to find anything in the menu that changes this. Tried setting the Au out limiter to off with no effect. I've done this setup with the panasonic cameras just fine. Any thoughts?

Help me, fellow oldsters! I have a gig for which I need to use my venerable but neglected Nagra IV-S. The machine is still set up for 3M 968. Is there a 1/4" tape currently being made that uses close to the same setup+bias etc? ATR? 7" reels needed, plan to use Nagramaster.....

Anyone out there know of a product that can be purchased in small quantities that will remove, melt or destroy the tensile strength fibers (jute, plastic, whatever that stuff is) from between the strands of copper wire within a lavalier's cable jacket and insulation? I'm quite adept at soldering and de-soldering the smallest of objects, but I'm getting a little tired of hand dissecting that stuff from the seven or so measly strands of copper on each conductor lead. I've tried conformal coating remover and citrus-based products with no luck.

I recently purchased 2 OST-802 lav mics with with 3.5mm plugs for my Zoom H1 recorders. I subjectively compared the OST lav's to the $25 Gaint Squid lavs I had and didn't really notice much of a difference. I'm guessing my findings are more a commentary on the recorder (or my inability to evaluate) than they are on the microphones. The recorder I've been looking at, because of reportedly better pre-amps and noise levels, is the Sony PCM-M10. However, I don't want to spend a few hundreds just on an experiment (i.e., will the Sony recordings be that much better than the H1's?). Has anyone ever compared the mic in on H1 or H2 of H4N or whatever to the mic in on the …

Hello all, I have a question about profesional field audio recording in filmmaking. Let us assume the field sound recordist has a boom mic, for which the cable is connected to the mixer/recorder in the sound bag. Also, two actors each have wireless lav mics and their signals are received by the receiver in the sound bag; the receivers are also connected to the mixer/recorder. My question is as follows: When the sound recordist presses the 'Record' button at the start of a scene, and records dialogue from the boom mic and the two actors' lav mics, what is the recorded result after the recordist presses the 'Stop' button to stop recording after the scene has …

I have a couple of UCR 201s One is ver 2.0 and one is 4.0 The ver 2.0 I am seeing no setup screen on the menu or no exit screen. The unit works fine as far as changing freqs but seems to be missing pages in the menu. Is this because it is a earlier model or does it needs service ? ( I did buy the unit used ) I see posts from senator posting "did you try the secret master reset " Is there such a thing? If so could you please pm me with the secret or any other ideas on this unit Thanks so much Tom Maloney

Over on r.a.m.p.s. there has been some discussion about new products coming from Sonosax that look very interesting. Three new products, none shipping yet (I think they are just empty boxes at this point): a stand alone 3 input ENG style mixer and 2 mixers with integrated file based recording. There is a link to the video done at the 122nd AES Show in Austria (where these machines were first seen) and I have also put the video up on my BLOG since we can't really post video here at the Discussion Group. Jeff Wexler's new blog can be found at: < http://jwsound.blogspot.com/ > Regards, Jeff Wexler

Anyone know what frequency corresponds to Comtek channel 7-0? I can't find it on my Comtek freq cheat sheet. Other 7-x numbers are in the range of 174-179 MHz, so I'm guessing it's up there somewhere, but I'd like to know for sure. I've emailed Comtek as well, but thought someone might know here. Brian

I'm fairly certain that moisture has done in my 416, it still works and to some degree still has some of it's signature senny warmth, but I notice an issue with higher and lower SPL response. It blows out (clips) easily with a higher SPL with a tinny sound and feels like there is much less ambience with lower SPL stuff. I haven't used my 416 in awhile but fairly certain it isn't supposed to sound like this. For you old timers you've probably experienced this a few times... it might be at the point where the cost exceeds getting another. Whats your experience? Thanks! Tim

I am primarily a camera man but my company is looking to purchase a smart slate in a few weeks for an upcoming series of projects. I plan on jam syncing the cameras. Would I be able to use the slate as a master clock provided that I re-jam when the slate’s batteries are changed? I was hoping that I could get some suggestions on the pros and cons of the different models available. From my research I think the Denecke TS-TCB and the Ambient Lockit Slate May be good options for me. The Denecke slate looks nice due to the ability to input text on the second row of the LEDs but I wonder if it’s one of those features that in practice hardly ever gets use…

The bolt above the earpiece on the HN 7506 headphones comes loose every so often in the field and it’s an absolute pain to tighten. Right now I figure I’ll grab a small wing nut to replace the top but it will still be less than ideal to tighten it from underneath working around the earpiece itself. I was hoping one of you had run into this problem before and might have a better solution?

I seem to be getting quite a bit of low frequency handling noise with all of my mics. Schoeps CMC641, MKH50, 416, MKH60, in rycote softie mounts, Ktek KGPS, KSSM mount. Poles are cabled Ktek, and my mixer is a 442. As an ENG guy I'm always moving and handling the pole a lot and I just cant seem to reduce the handling noise. Any suggestions?

Has anyone tried the new (belt & pouch kit) ? let me explain, it is a one piece elastic band with a BUILT in pouch. they make one pack for the ankle one for the waist. (you can only use one or the other anyway) they are made for the um400 & sm tx's right now. very rugged yet firm and it holds the tx nicley. just put a bunch in rental. ( no, I don't own stock in the co. wish I did) the boom op who co owns the straps has a cool little anchor gadget that "drops" the tx down the wardrobe of your actor without "harrasing" the talent when wiring.

Hi There, First time post so please be easy on me! To start with i am not using this equipment in the US so i dont have to worry about the 700mhz block Im using a Lectrosonics Venue Reciever with x3 B27 x3 B28 I want to purchase some HH transmitters but it is proving impossible to get any quickly as those blocks are not stocked anywhere. From what i can tell B26 IS readily available so what i would like to know is would it be feasible to replace my B28 VRS modules with B26? this would leave me with x3 B26 x3 B27 From what i can tell this should be ok in terms of frequency compatability as they are adjacent blocks but i would like to be 100% sur…
