Hello everyone. Finally got a chance to post my question here. I am an international student. Wish my English is not confusing. Here is the case. I am a DP/tech (I do not know the name for that department, like equipment choosing) direction. There are some questions about the sound equipment decision about my senior film. The film will contain a decent amount of dialogues and some moving scene. I have some concerns about what to choose to pick up sound for those scenes. My professor told me the easiest way to improve the film quality is by improving the sound. I got some equipment already and always happy to purchase new stuff. I got 4 pai…

So... I’m buying the Schoeps mini CMIT with the Cinela Pianissimo. My question is: is there any reason to buy the CMIT 5U instead? Filters are not needed with the cinela, the reach is the same, the mini is lighter, the cinela smaller... Same sound quality... Just checking with you guys your experience. thanks!

Hello, I like to use B6 mics frequently. Infrequently, but too often, I learn that a protective cap has been dislodged and misplaced while the mic was being removed from talent. The cost of the replacement caps seems unnaturally high at approximately $10 each. Is there a best price source for the protective caps? Thank you.

So, I just wanted to check up and see if people are still enjoying using their TL-40's and 801's/ 802's? How are they holding up? Well built? Sounding good, working fine? I'm asking cause last spring there was lots of talk about people receiving faulty mics (myself included), and lots of problems, but some seemed very pleased. Have they got it sorted out by now? Is it worth taking another look at these mics?

Has anyone used the Leo-20 MSN basket with the OSIX suspension? It's an elegant wind/suspension package that mounts a CMC body with an MK capsule directly on an OSIX and floats the CCM8 in the basket itself. http://www.cinela.fr/catalog.php?pid=86&language=en I know Cinela gets high marks around these parts, but I given how susceptible the CCM8 seems to be to handling and wind noise, I wonder how this might work running handheld. I know a full basket is best, but the compactness of this rig is very attractive.

Hi everyone been reading this forum for a little while and thought to join up now to learn a bit more... im a novice creator trying to work out good sound and video for YouTube vids (at the moment indoor and just 1 person), audiobooks and podcasting. I just got myself a mix pre3 and am now shopping for a one for all mic solution to upgrade from the rode videomic pro. So far the mkh50 seems like the go to option - nice bass and seems a good all rounder. Other mics I was considering where sanken cs3e, schoeps mini CMIT, schoeps mk41 (bit pricey though). There’s a good offer on the 416 locally but am of the understanding that is not the best mic out…

Hello jwsound! First off, I'm not too sure which board this should go in... it is a question about technique -- but the answer is probably one or two types of equipment! So, anyone who is knowledgeable about audio technique or equipment, especially around the late 70s, this question is for you! I have a huge interest in location sound and the techniques used in location sound from back then, I have a question which I'm wondering if any of you can give insight into with your experience. The productions which achieve that high quality location sound really impress me, yet finding information on how is difficult so I wonder if you could help: …

I’ve seen a few older threads on here about unusual or out of the box tips and tricks and thought I’d share something I found near the moleskin in the healthcare section at the local grocery store. Gel (silicone?) toe spacers! (Pic attached) With a little trimming and a hole poked through the middle with the blade from the scissors, they make a very nice and quite lav mount (99%) immune to clothing rustle. There’s even a slight divet on one end for the mic head to pop out, but still be protected. I tried it stuck to my chest with topstick and a t-shirt and it worked really well. Haven’t tried it on clothing like between buttons on a button up yet.…

After several years waiting (I always said this wasn't a Moon shot, but a Mars shot) seems the early access program will begin soon. http://www.mhsecure.com/3dEarlyAccess/3dIntroMHRN.html This is intersting, you will be able to update all their existing models, at a cost of course. In the past I updated my first series ULN-2 to the 2d Expanded version swapping a card inside and replacing the back panel.

I'm about to jump onto the DPA bandwagon. This going into my first wireless kit (only two at first), been renting before and used the 4061s. I'm debating with between buying the Slims and 60s. Which ones see more action or are better all arounders for mostly narrative work for you guys? And also if it's the 60s, the 60 or 61?

Today I’m day playing on a show that refused to rent my kit. There was no coordintaion on gear so I just showed up with no gear. Production has a fully loaded 788 with CL8 and Lectros. Production seemed to think it was strange that I didn’t show up with a harness. I told them. You didn’t rent my kit, so I did t bring accessories. I generally dont don’t work without providing kit. But did for this just because. Out of curiosity how many other mixers bring accessories with them when Production doesn’t rent your kit?

Hi guys! First time posting, hope to learn a lot on this forum :) I have a Sony UWP-d11 system and a Sennheiser G3, both still with their kit microphones as I haven't been able to afford to replace them with anything better. I recently tried using the kit mic that comes with the Sony system with the G3 transmitter, and it made a very bizarre noise, like an old modem. It took me a while to figure out that I was using the wrong mic, however this seems really bizarre to me; I assumed they're both fairly stock standard condenser lavalier microphones without much difference? This isn't even really a problem, because the G3 worked fine again when used with the …

Hi All, Just a quick question about updating firmware on Sound Devices recorders : After downloading a firmware update file to an SD card and completing the firmware update in the machine, do you leave this update file on your SD card or do you delete it from the card? I assume that the file from the SD card updates the internal system in the machine itself? I have been leaving the firmware update file on the SD card but when I next boot up the machine, it senses that an update file is present and a message indicates that an update will begin - it appears to run an update but nothing actually changes because the update had already been done previously. Anyho…

Any update on a Zaxcom Slate? I’m interested in getting a small compact smart slate solution. It would be great to have a Zaxnet intergrated solution... I’ve heard rumors for year and wandering what’s the hold up. Even a Bluetooth enabled device that could display Zaxnet information would be killer and fairly simple. And maybe you could slide it in and out of a brace/Mount to attach sticks.

Hi everyone, I just got this in and thought I'd share just in case anyone was looking for something like this for their bag. Recently I've started using my iPad Mini for Wingman and I was looking around for something to mount it to my bag. This seemed to be the only ready-made thing out there that I could find, and it works pretty well so far! A few nitpicks on it, none of them dealbreakers to me. I wish it would've come with some velcro strips included. Wasn't a problem for me because I already had a big roll, but I would've been sad otherwise (not a very big deal at all though). Since it's plastic I could see there being longevity issues with it, I probably …

I'm interested to know how folks are managing their various rechargeable batteries on location, esp the one-soundie-banders who aren't working off carts. How do you keep the used-up ones separate from the topped-up ones--do you have a marking system or a separate boxes for used and unused or ? Too bad AA and 9v rechargeables don't have meters like bigger batteries!

Video/sound professional Curtis Judd just published a video about his sound bag, including his Inspired Energy battery setup. He notes (at 5:28) his only criticism of the IE battery system is that the battery isn’t able to lock into his cup adapter, in contrast to the NP-1 system. I was fully onboard with buying into the IE system until I heard this. (Though as I hesitate, I recognize the IE system is the inevitable successor to the aging NP-1 system, as consensus goes). To Inspired Energy battery users – and users of its Remote Audio Hi-Q and Audioroot eSMART variants – is there a better way to ensure a reliable connection with the battery than gaffer tape?
