Hello, I am mainly a Post-production sound guy, but I want to make the transition to Field recording in order to be bit more attractive on the market, being able to do both production and post-production. I have done a lot of researches and have found a lot of information on the internet, but I need to have the eyes of experts and clarifications so I am posting here to find some answers and advice. My budget is tight yes, I will say it's around 4 to 5k (canadian dollars), I would rather buy used gear but it's not always possible. My goal will be to be able to record sound for small projects with 3 lavs and a boom for documentaries, interviews…

Hey Guys, I'm considering an upgrade of my wireless kit. I started with Sennheiser G3s and now run 3 Micron Explorers which have limiters. I use the G3s for headphone sends and wireless hops. I like the look of the Lectrosonics systems but they are soooooo expensive. What would I gain by upgrading? I work on a variety of shoots including Film, TV and corporate. Would love all your thoughts.

Hello, I am interested in Zaxcom's IFB products and have been reading about how the IFB200 provides a lot of extra Zaxnet features. After reading through the Zaxcom website, I am still trying to understand how the Zaxnet features are accessed with an IFB200. Are the commands simply made through the menu and scroll buttons with the small screen on the Zaxcom IFB200 box or can you sign an appliance, such as a cell phone or laptop onto the wireless network and make parameter adjustments with some sort of app? Thank you.

Does anyone know if the new QRX 200 and 235 can work with the old TRX900LANC? and vise versa can the new transmitter work with the old receiver?

I heard something about to send time code and scratch audio to a camera? which product has these 2 facilities in same box?

Hello. I want to buy a new wireless kit, and I have done a litle research about the 3 Companies that we mostly use. Lectrosonics- Zaxcom-Wisycom. Lectrosonics : SRC-SSM-SMWB I read, the SRC have some problems and they don't work very well. They have some issues until the company finds the right update. At the moment I prefer to trust the SRB model, but its price is the same with the SRC but on SRC you have a wider range . The ssm its very nice and good unit. The negative of this unit are the batteries..and maybe the 3pin lemo if you have already some kit of lectro. The SMWB is a very new unit,so I am waiting... In general Lectrosoni…

Hello mixers! I’m thinking on upgrading some equipment and I would love to hear about the new DPA lavaliers with the “core” label. How are they compared to the classic ones? Are you using them? Which model do you recommend for narrative and interviews? Currently I’m using the DPA 4061 for all my lavs but I’d love to upgrade to the core of it’s worth it. Thanks in advance. Manuel. I spend a week with the Zaxcom RX12 + 3 modules last week and put it against my OneUnit micplexerII + 3 qrx200s over the weekend. Here are my findings summarized: Size and ergonomic design Bigger then Nomad so harder to bag in a nomad setup. The modules handles stick out even further making it even bigger. Heavier. Fan is on the bottom making it unpractical to lay on the bottom of a bag. It has Sma antennas instead of BNC which makes it harder and timely to swap between antenna systems. RX12 AES is on the opposite side of Nomad AES TA5 conne…

Hello, I read some threads about the SR series TXBAT function and most of the discussions seemed to focus on the confusion related to the wide variety of rechargeable batteries that are used. I am trying to figure out if I can use the indicators with disposable premium Akaline batteries (Energizer and Duracell) and or Lithium batteries such as the Energizer. With Premium Alkalines AA batteries, and the AA meter choice, a brand new battery seems to be reported as done after a very short while but it lasts much longer. I have noticed that when using the 9V TXBAT setting the indicators seem to correlate with premium Alkaline AA discharge rates.…

Hi All, I will be heading for Europe in a couple of weeks, specifically Italy, Belgium, Germany, Denmark and UK. Does anyone know of a "frequency finder" for these areas?? I will be using minimal RF devices, just booming interviews mostly, but want to be able to throw a wire on if the need arises. Thanks -Jason

Hi All, Still gathering assorted gear for my small doc kit bag. Would anyone have any suggestions about breakaway cable assemblies that would do double duty for a MixPre 10T and also a Sound Devices 302 mixer? This is what I've been looking at : https://www.trewaudio.com/product/remote-audio-cabetasd633/ The MixPre 10T trimecode connection is BNC in/out - can I adapt the Lemo to BNC as needed? I believe I read on the B&H website that the BNC timecode part of the cable assembly only transmits one direction - is this correct? If anyone in Toronto might be considering selling a breakaway cable assembly, please feel free…

On a show using a combo of sanken 11d's and 4063's mostly outside. Mics hidden button down shirts etc. where fabric layers are working to my advantage, but high winds in later afternoons flairing up and hiting 4063s hard. The sankens i am using the larger high wind screens the size of a marble with great success wrapped tight in makeup sponge moleskin combos. New to dpa's and not having equal success with my available accessories. Is there a dpa equiv windscreen non foam but rigid metal like the sanken i am possibly overlooking? Considering trying to modify one of these sanken high wind screens to fit a dpa grill cap and testing that as an option -Ken

Woke up to an email this morning from DPA showing off their new MMP-G active preamp. http://www.dpamicrophones.com/accessories/mmp-g-modular-active-cable-microdot?utm_source=DPA+Complete&utm_campaign=a95453c69f-d%3Adicate+launch+_14-6-2016&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_a141748c6e-a95453c69f-317165797&mc_cid=a95453c69f&mc_eid=5df15c2087 Looks like DPA's version of the Schoeps CMR. I would love to see some tech specs on it and certainly would like to know if it will work with Zaxcom

Hi everybody, I have this thought: How about how simultaneously use the rx12 and mix8 connected to the nomad. I've found an old thread but it didn't go deep. I know that there's the nomad touch and some special kind of usb-hub solution that is made to do achieve what I want but I don't want to invest into nomad touch right now. Here comes my low-budget work around idea: A manual usb switch to be able to use the automatic frequency function auto pick first at the beginning of the day and then switch to to the mix8 afterwards. I haven't tried it yet and don't know if it requires a restart of the nomad. here's some cheap usb switch: https://…

Here is a copy of an email I sent to Sound Devices regarding my experience with the 633 and firmware improvements that would be useful. Please feel free to add any more that I missed: I recently bought a 633 and I just wanted to say congratulations on making a great device and also give some feedback as a user. I am a location sound mixer, I do primarily run-and-gun, one man operation where I am mixing and booming. I believe the 633 is an excellent machine for this style shooting but there are some improvements that could make the 633 better. Firstly, while there are many visual metering options one that I find lacking is the ability to remove the Left/Right meter…

Hi, still evaluating which mic's to start with. I'm a filmmaker and producer of documentaries and corporate stuff. I also work as a cameraman/DP for other productions, but was responsible for the sound for several feature documentaries, too. I love being able to capture the atmosphere of places out in the wild and more so in the cities. I have some standard doco stuff, but want to upgrade to better mic's and a recorder later on. I have a AT875R on camera, which I think is surprisingly good for the price and size. Then I have a Sennheiser ME64/66 that is used on a boom and a AT BP4029 M/S mic for athmo. I also have a Sennheiser G3 wireless combo with MKE2 …

I have read the TS-C manual a million times. For some reason I'm just not understanding how to change the clap hold so that it will display the timecode, and not the date. Can someone explain how to change the clap hold, and also if there is supplemental help to understanding the TS-C other than Denecke's manual? Update: I've been informed that this can only be changed on my mixer side of things. When I head to my Time Code Jam pressing the TC key twice, and then I select jam date and jam time, then I sync my slate, it will hold time code only after the clap. That's what I want my slate to be most of the time. But let's say I wanted to go back to displa…

From Dorothea Sargent, who is our publicist at the CAS: "I am just going to post this and hope my sound community friends share this post. I have been approached by a prop master for a series for a very prominent director (friend to the sound community!!) They need a Sony TC-510 or Sony TC-510-2. I know there is one out there. Please share and email me if you have a line on one -- CASpublicist@cinemaaudiosociety.org CASpublicist@cinemaaudiosociety.org Here are photos he included in his outreach to me. Come on people, I know we can find one of these!! Thank you!!"

Hello most esteemed colleagues. Been a while; grateful you're all still here! After years of seamless perfomance, my UCR 411A seems to have developed a power input problem. It works fine on 9v batts. It works intermittently (and mostly not at all) on the power input (from my bds), which is powering other UCR 411's fine. Anybody have experience with this issue? I'm wondering if it's typically the kind of fix where I'm better off just buying a new one, or a relatively simple fix. Has anyone found a solution without sending it in to Lectro? Finally, since I still have an smqv in that block (21), I'm thinking of upgrading to the srbc. If I d…

Hello, I purchased a new RF Explorer that includes VHF as well as UHF ranges. Today I was comparing its performance to my original UHF version. I learned two things 1) The new wider range VHF/UHF unit seems more sluggish than the narrower UHF band unit despite matching all the settings that may be matched. 2) My Maytag microwave oven splats bursts of 493MHz RFI. The original RF Explorer shows a large narrow spike repeatedly pop up to -30dBm and disapper. Unfortunately the new VHF/UHF scanner does not display this activity. I thought some may find it interesting that a common household appliance is capable of bursting …

Hi, I'm going to buy one of these guys soon. http://www.filmtontechnik.de/en/products-from-kortwich/microphone/ I did a simple test at home and quite liked it. But I'm not a professional sound mixer. Does anybody of you have some experience with it? Any information welcome! I can share additional data (frequency response, polar pattern, actual pictures) if needed. THX
