On a drama series I regularly work on they use a Canatrans to send wireless video. I have used block 21 and 28 wireless and I didn't notice any RFI from the Canatrans. The last time I looked it was set to Channel 42 which is on the top end of block 24. Since I am planning to buy some block 24 wireless I am wondering how much frequency spacing usually is needed between talent and video wireless, i.e. will I be able to use block 24 without RFI form Canatrans? I also couldn't find out on the Canatrans website which different channels are selectable on the video transmitter. Anyone know?

Hello, I am doing an audio transcription onto a Tascam HD P2 recorder as a WAV file with audio on channel 1 and time code on channel 2. If the client asks for an MP3 file, can I convert a WAV file to a MP 3 file without time code being corrupted in the conversion process? thanks

I just completed 2 low budget features with the PD-6. So far I like this unit but there are quite a few things that baffles me. I had to use the PD-6 as a bag system for most of the second feature due to the location. We were in the middle of nowhere in the woods where a cart is impractical. I was running it with Li-Ion NP1 batteries. Here are a few questions I'm hoping some of you could help me with. - When using the Li-Ions NP1 batteries, the battery level meter is very misleading. It shows full power for a while then drops to about say 85%. Then all of a sudden, the PD-6 would shut off. So I would pretty much change the battery the minute the battery level d…

Hi there, Today i noticed a strange thing. i use my green lockit with a RED (build 30) on a regular basis to do double system sound. i ask cam ass. (or do it myself) to mark the "external sync" in the menu. connect my lockit. check for the yellow chain in top. and check if the tc is in sync. (when not in record its 1 sec off) but when in rec. the tc is sync. i check for this yellow chain and tc like 4 times a day. today i got some quicktimes from the shooting of yesterday with the question if i could hook up the sound. the quicktimes have very strange tc 1st take / file tc 15:45:12:03 to 15:47:23:22 2nd take / file tc 15:46:20:12 to 15:48:09:10 notic…

Hi all. I did a recording on a 744T v2.65 that was synced to the film transfer via a Fostex DV 40. The timecode, as reported by editorial, was not identical to the wav file time code i sent them........ in fact, timecode would jump by several hours in the middle of a take. I played back the recordings and all seemed well..... I also imported the files into FCP and timecode was accurate. The dude at editorial said that he had a previous TC problem with v2.65 and his Fostex. I'll contact SD and see if they have any intel on this...... anyone else have a similar problem with Fostex DV40 and SD WAV files?....... Thx

We are going to shoot a party scene with dialogue. Party scenes with no music always look akward, because everybody is moving to their own rhythm. I have heard of playing back music with a low hicut, so they can get rid of the bass rhythm in the post. Did someone has experience with this kind of method? Where would you set the hicut? I would think about 50hz, far away from the voices frequencies. But I there anything to be aware of?

I found something I didn´t know exists but does exactly what I was missing ... Ever needed to do a surprise playback from a Deva-File and no laptop with you? Happend to me. What I always carry with me is my iphone. If only I could load a file onto it without a computer. Here is how: get a RAVPOWER All-in-1 Filehub. It got a battery inside (could even charge your phone off it), creates its own wlan network and one can attach an USB-card reader (or HDD or thumbdrive). Download the app (free) to your ios device, connect to the RAVPOWER wlan and copy any file into your phone (within the app). Or just play back from the hub directly. …

Assuming no double-sound in this question, just single or multi-camera video shoot with sound being recorded in cameras... Is there any reason I would want to set ANY video camera's sampling rate to 32K? 48K just seems to be the more common sampling rate for many types of sound recording gear. Is there some problem I could cause for post production by just SOP setting a video camera's audio sampling rate to 48K? Of course, everyone reading this is probably asking, "Are you talking analog or digital?" Well, both. If there's differences re: digital vs. analog, I seek answers to that as well. I'm still working in a strictly analog ENG/EFP world. The next can of …

Hi, I'm in urgent need of recovering some backed up Zaxfiles. I back up my Primary card on a Lacie Rugged drive through a Mac Pro. I need to recover some slates that didn't go on the backup card, but I cannot get it done. The way I do it is to copy the backup back on a CF card and open it in the Fusion. That does not work and I cannot figure out how to recover the files. Any help is welcome. Regards

Have a shoot this weekend and they want scratch audio to a Sony EX3. I've never used a comtek as a hop, but this looks like the best option for this shoot. Will an unbalanced 3.5mm to XLR M work as expected from the PR-216 to the EX3?

So, apparently the short I'm working on this weekend is shooting on the Genesis camera. I'm going to be running my Nomad-6 with a smart slate, but was curious as to how the camera handles timecode. Am I going to need to use my ERXTC to send timecode to it? Does it keep it's own timecode? I've only heard of the camera in stories, never actually even gotten to PA or work on anything that's shooting with one. Anything else I should know about the camera? Thank you, -w

Shoot today w/ Sony EX-1. Client, as is typical for this kind of shoot in my area, wants primary audio recorded to the camera. We have a data wrangler/kid w/ laptop for downloading the cards and checking footage. First-thing-in-the-morning-TC discussion reveals that camera assist/data guy doesn't care about free-run vs record run TC. I have an "aha" moment: most of the objections to free-run TC in the past had to do with issues in digitising the video tape, esp into Final Cut (code breaks causing problems for post people who didn't understand how to deal with them). Now that there isn't any tape digitising going on.....nobody cares about record-run TC. Cool, I say--…

Hi all, I'll be heading down to Rio next month and was wondering if any of you has done any work down there. Questions. 1- RF's frequency, what lectro blocks? 2- Do I need a Carnae or a manifest for customs? 3- Any local Rental houses? That's it for now. Cheers and Happy New Year Ferdi

Hello, I'm doing a job tomorrow with a Panasonic AF100 recording onto a nano flash recorder. I've been asked to roll double system with time code for sync and transcription. I'll probably send a reference audio signal to the camera, and I'm planning on taking a hard wired TC feed from the nano flash to my 552 for this (sit down interview). I see on the manual for the nano flash that there is a 10 pin connector that has the TC I/O. Has anyone here used this workflow before? Anything I should watch out for? Thanks, Pablo

Hello everyone, I'm trying to extract the files from a Primary Card from my Deva Fusion 10 and and error pops up saying: 1,<MIR_Zax2BWFPcCh_ERR_1>) and on the warning says it could not find available Wrapper. I have read posts about partially formatting the cards. Can it be done in the Fusion? how? Would this fix the problem? Thanks

I have 9.62 / 9.31 / 9.23 / on various TRXs now. After formatting the card within the TRX I normally found a "delete me" file on the card. Not now. Tried with different TRXs / versions. Any ideas?

I recently bought a brand new Delkin 32GB CF card for my 788t, and found this disturbing behavior: if the recorder is turned on while the card is already inserted, neither the internal HD or the CF card appear on the screen. It took us more than an hour of troubleshooting to figure out that the culprit was the card. After I tested the issue with all my other cards to confirm this, I went back to the vendor and asked for an exchange. We tried another card and, wouldn't you know it, we had the same issue. We looked for a card from a different batch - problem gone. In order to avoid this issue, look at the back of the packaging. At the bottom, next to the bar code, you'll …

Hello all, Does anyone know how to export an iXML file (if there is such a thing) from our wav files ? ( bwf file actually) An editor just told me he can import iXML file in Final Cut X and reconnect the metadata with my audio files that do not have notes yet in their metadata since he has the daily backup of a documentary (I write the notes and full sound report after the shoot on a documentary). I never heard of such a thing. Would be quite a great tool for workflow between prod and post if you could just import data like notes and track names, without changing anything else (like TC...). Thanks Fred
