It has been reported to me that a sales transaction originating from this site has gone very badly for one of our members purchasing a used item offered up for sale by another member. I am not going to go into the details. This post should serve as a warning, once again, that our membership should be very cautious when considering a purchase of anything offered on this site. I am very close to shutting down the whole section but I would rather like to keep it going since there are many established and trusted members who have made very good use of the section.

Hi fella's, this ones been driving us mad: i am running 6 wires in blk 25 in my bag: 2 sra's, 2 411's. for some reason we cannot get 6 frequencies to work together. ch1 - sra blk 25, um 400 blk 25 ch2 - sra blk 25, um 400 blk 25 ch3 - sra blk 25, um 400 blk 25 ch4 - sra blk 25, smqv @ 100mW blk 25 ch5 - 411a blk 25, sma blk 25 ch6 - 411a blk 25, sma blk 25. the tx's all work together fine if you put them on the other side of the room. the problem kicks in if you dangle a tx anywhere near the receivers. this is hard to avoid when you're turning them on to put on guys in the field. usually its between no 4 interfering with no.2 …

I am requesting once again that those few people on this group who have not yet identified themselves by use of a real name, hopefully their own, should really consider doing so now. Even if it just served to make me happy, why not do it? I have tried very hard to make this forum truly personal and open to any and all opinions --- I have the highest regard for free speech and more importantly free expression, but as in face to face discourse where you know who you are talking with, I would like this group to act the same. Further, I really appreciate the majority of people here who have also gone one more step and posted a little bio --- no great literary opus necessary, …

Governor Snyder of Michigan announced the F2012 State Budget on Thursday and it includes the elimination of the Film Credit. Despite the claims from the Film Credit supporters that it creates jobs. "A September 2010 Senate Fiscal Agency report, however, found Michigan paid nearly twice as much money in incentives as the industry brought to the state in a two-year period. The state spent $137.5 million to generate $80.6 million in revenue, and the efforts cost taxpayers more than $190,000 to create a single full-time job." http://detnews.com/article/20110218/POLITICS02/102180366/Michigan-would-go-from-Hollywood-star-to-bit-player-under-Snyder-s-budget#ixzz1EKuRspUK

Jay Patterson just posted this on FB. First I've heard about it. Super-suckage. Kind of good for the manufacturers I guess. Does this mean Trew etc can't sell 75 kHz gear used/consignment? Maybe I'll just give my whole pile of wireless stuff a Viking Funeral in the back yard and tell clients that it's boom, hardwired lav or ADR from now on? NEWS FLASH! New rules for the MANUFACTURE of wireless mics in the USA. Starting October 1, 2018, manufacturers and dealers will only be able to market devices operating with 50 kHz deviation. Current devices using 75 kHz deviation will still be allowed to be used (your entire current inventory), but will only work w…

I didn't think any thread like this existed yet... it's definitely not a classified ad, and probably not appropriate for the soon to be replaced WTB/WTS forum... so just posting links to interesting finds on eBay that I thought others might be interested in... Well, another big studio project has decided to not shoot in Los Angeles. I'm currently in Atlanta on a show, in very busy Georgia with so much work that they can barely fill all the key positions. Also currently shooting here is Jeff Wexler, Bill Kaplan, Eric Pierce and Scott Smith who shoots in Savannah. Now North Carolina, which years back had a lot of work in Wilmington, has snagged Iron Man 3. From Deadline Hollywood: “The rumors are true,” a North Carolina TV station announced when the governor flew to the hometown movie studio to break the news this past week. “Tony Stark and the third installment of the Iron Man movie franchise will f…

I noticed that describing the workflow and ways in which Zaxcom gear can be used in ENG-type recording situations. I hesitate using the term "ENG" to describe the type of recording jobs this refers to, and even more I dislike the term "bag work" because it tends to have a derogatory connotation. It is safe to say that this type of work, increasingly the style of working that many are finding is the mainstay of their jobs, is probably the most demanding type of production sound recording work being done today. The key points that I see reading this document, by using fewer devices in the bag, with the devices having a higher order of integration of feature and functio…

I would like to get into the sound for picture business doing documentary/film/TV work and ENG work as a Sound Recordist and Boom Operator. I've been a sound engineer for 11 years in New York City mostly mixing sound for galas and corporate events. I have a bachelor's degree in recording arts and music production. I have a great set of ears and great personality. How can I get into this business? Who do I call? Where do I go? What should I look for? Where should I start?

I have never posted here before but I believe that this news item requires all of our attention. As a member in good standing for many years, I am finding more and more resistance from actors to wear a wireless mic. It takes quite a bit of convincing and assuring that they are in good hands with this sound department. This is due to previous experiences where the actor's privacy and trust may have been violated. This new sound bite of Christian Bale ranting only serves to fuel the fire. We are ultimately responsible for this breech of privacy. We have the means to prevent these things from getting out into the world, I will hear no excuses. Here the media has seized an op…

Deadline reports: EXCLUSIVE: Oscar-nominated and Annie Award-winning animation studio Rhythm and Hues will be formally filing for bankruptcy Monday morning, Deadline has learned. Within hours of winning the BAFTA for Special Visual Effects for Life Of Pi, the financially-troubled company informed its employees Sunday night of the upcoming Chapter 11 filing, insiders say. Rhythm & Hues employees were also informed by management not to show up to work on Monday in the El Segundo offices. Update: While the paperwork has not yet been formally filed, it does seem like Rhythm & Hues is at least partially shuttering. Sources tell Deadline that production on contr…

Just to vent a little bit... Am I the only person noticing that the sound quality on local news has been completely going to hell over the last couple of years? For at least the last week, KNBC Channel 4 news (the NBC O&O here in LA) has had some kind of a weird mix problem where every time they go to a bumper, the music only comes out of the left channel. Dialog (anchors) are in both -- phantom center channel -- as you would expect. Commercials are fine. Taped segments are fine. Bumpers go to hell. I also notice quite a few news studios that have such horrific acoustics, they sound for all the world like a tile bathroom. WNBC Channel 4 sounds like that…

One of the good things for me running this Discussion Group with the forum software from Simple Machines (this is true with other software as well) is the statistics report that is available. Under "stats" I can see who has been contributing, what topics have a lot of attention and which hold very little interest for our members. By studying these stats I hope to be able to dynamically moderate this Group in much the same way a moderator would deal with a group of REAL people in a real room (I think you know what I mean). That brings me back to the subject of WHO are our members (and I'm not back on my original thread about nicknames and handles, I'm well over that). …
