"Frustrated by SAG's refusal to close a deal, the majors broke off three days of talks late Thursday by issuing a take-it-or-leave-it "last, best, final" offer. The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers also said the new offer would be withdrawn in 60 days. SAG had no immediate response. But the key issue separating the two sides -- the companies' demand for a three-year deal from the date of ratification -- turned out to be insurmountable." With the passage of California's State budget - the delay almost rivaling the SAG contract conundrum -- there is a new set of tax breaks that will finally directly compete with New York state and a few others. It is by no means as generous as Michigan but it should begin by July 1st. Variety details it; Taxing situation for New York http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118000377.html?categoryid=18&cs=1 My opinion: One thing they point out that was not covered in another thread here on the state tax rebate incentives, is the fickleness of Producers, who hop from one state to another when the incentives look better. True, this is affecting us now, but similar to wh…

I have increased the capacity of the upload/file folder on the server so we should be back in business. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties uploading images. Again, In will take the opportunity to promote CinemaSound where the the uploading routines work very well and support images, video, audio and so forth, and in what I consider a much more elegant manner than this forum. - Jeff Wexler

I received this notice from Zaxcom: New Stereo adapter introduction At the Coffey Sound Barbecue this Saturday Feb 14th at 11:00 AM Zaxcom will show for the first time a new Stereo Adapter model STA150. This new adapter differs from the previous model in that its connections are sound bag friendly. Right angle connectors are no longer needed to save space when configuring the sound bag for the Stereo adapter with the TRX900 wireless microphone transceiver. The STA150 powered directly from 8-18 volts converts a TRX900 into a line level balanced input 2 channel transmitter with 2 channel backup recording and IFB return receiver. A single TRX900 modulates 2 channel…

"It’s happened again. SAG leaders, in the latest twist in the guild’s extraordinary drama, have set the stage for resuming contract talks with the majors by again firing topper Doug Allen and booting out the feature-primetime negotiating committee in favor of a task force. Sunday’s vote generated support from 59% of board members voting -- up from the 53% who supported the resolution two weeks ago via a “written assent.â€ Keith Carradine, elected in the fall as part of Rosenberg’s Membership First slate, defected Sunday and supported the resolution. Rosenberg chaired Sunday’s contentious five-hour meeting. Because of the internal battling, the resoluti…

From Daily Variety: SAG's moderate leaders to meet Sunday Guild members aim to revive contract talks "The moderate majority of SAG leaders will attempt Sunday to put feature-primetime negotiations back on track by trying to defuse president Alan Rosenberg's extraordinary legal challenge. The uncertainty over SAG's contract situation has been a factor in slowing down feature production. A below-the-line organization dubbing itself "Back to Work" has scheduled a 1 p.m. rally for Monday at SAG's Hollywood headquarters to urge the guild to re-launch negotiations. "The refusal to negotiate has gone on for too long," it said in a message in its web site at www.letsge…

I'm getting a headache from all the inner legal warfare within SAG's Board. Cue the Soap Opera music, please. When we left off on Tuesday, Alan Rosenberg's first attempt at an injunction to stop Douglas Allen from being fired was shot down by a Judge. Rosenberg said "I'll be back." Back he was today - and bang, bang, shot down again. Read it here: http://digitalmedialaw.blogspot.com/2009/02/judge-denies-sag-president-injunction.html RL

I have never posted here before but I believe that this news item requires all of our attention. As a member in good standing for many years, I am finding more and more resistance from actors to wear a wireless mic. It takes quite a bit of convincing and assuring that they are in good hands with this sound department. This is due to previous experiences where the actor's privacy and trust may have been violated. This new sound bite of Christian Bale ranting only serves to fuel the fire. We are ultimately responsible for this breech of privacy. We have the means to prevent these things from getting out into the world, I will hear no excuses. Here the media has seized an op…

Talks were supposed to begin again this morning between the AMPTP and SAG. They were called off after Alan Rosenberg filed a temporary restraining order to prevent other guild leaders from restarting contract negotiations with the majors. Well this morning, a Judge denied that motion on a technicality. Rosenberg has now threatened to re-file the motion by Thursday.
