We are pleased to announce our 1st Annual Lone Star Mixer Mixer for our fellow soundies in Texas (and whomever else wants to come). The event will be held on January 5th from 4-8pm(ish) at The Gingerman Pub in Dallas, TX. Our focus is to provide a friendly and social meeting environment for mixers to talk shop and meet all the faces to the names we often hear. With that in mind, we also have a ton of giveaways and sweet door prizes from our favorite dealers and manufacturers, including the elusive Lectrosonics SM Flask, gift cards, t-shirts, an IDX NP-L7S battery, Denecke products, jackets and lots more! We are also very excited to have representatives and equipment from …

The 2 person sound crew is making a comeback thanks to the International. "Comeback Trail" (no joke) staring Robert DeNiro, Morgan Freeman and Tommy Lee Jones is coming to New Mexico to start shooting next week. Producers have figured out they can come to NM and by-pass the ASA contract and sign "One Off's". Not only do they get reduced crew at reduced rates they also get the local rebates. There are eleven producers listed on iMDB, no downsizing there. This is the second time I know of a major production doing this. The other film was Hell or High Water. Now that the International has made this a standard for "One Off's " why would any othe…

FilmL.A., the film permitting org for Los Angeles, has issued a five-year study that puts hard numbers on runaway pilot production, in which broadcast and cable nets are fleeing L.A. for New York, Canada and other locales offering incentives that help stretch production dollars. Pilot production overall has dropped 17% during the past five years, and L.A.'s share of that biz has dropped 42%. A rebadged Fiat Ducato and offers a diesel http://www.caranddriver.com/news/2014-ram-promaster-photos-and-info-news The 2014 ProMaster makes it a four-way battle for the high-roof full-size-van segment, butting up against the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, the Nissan NV, and Ford’s new Transit. The Ram keeps the eyes and cheeks of the Fiat’s fascia, but inserts a Ram crosshair grille. It’s a decidedly utilitarian face, with a bumper designed for modular repair in the event of minor accidents. Aft of that, the ProMaster has all the beauty of a metallic brick. But that’s what these workaday machines are meant to be if they want to survive in a world where beauty takes a ba…

For pal shoots are there any other frame rates to consider besides 25? With NTSC there are at least 4 that I can think of that are common (30, 29.97, 24, 23.98) and used for various reasons. Thanks

I know there has been a lot of talk recently about recording helicopter chatter and interviewing for helicopter based gigs. I know I almost took a similar job recently, and now I'm glad I didn't. Its a terrible shame that anyone has to die for the sake of a dumb television show. http://laist.com/2013/02/10/3_killed_in_helicopter_crash_while.php

Not trying to out-tech Scott: Over at RAMPS, Jon Tatooles writes: Jon Tatooles We just received a 48 GB CF card for testing. Amazing capacity! While it is still more expensive than a 2.5-inch hard drive of any capacity, It is great to have solid state medium at this capacity that is approachable. It is a type II card, so the device needs to support the thicker cards. Also, while it mounts to Vista, Mac OS X, and all 7-Series, it can't be formatted as FAT32 from Vista (it wants format it as NTFS). Also, it crashes (hard!) my Canon 30D camera. I've never seen error 99... 16 GB cards work fine in that camera, so there must be something else going on. J…

5 microphones haven been stolen from me from out of a studio in Cologne. It's probably a long shot posting it here, but who knows where these things turn up. The mic were taken sometime between Friday evening (7th November) and Monday morning (10th November). The studio was locked and alarm-secured and there were no break-in marks, whatever that means. If anyone sees one of the mice or gets them offered by someone in a dodgy deal, please let me know or the Police in Cologne. Of course, the mice were insured, but I want *my* mics back, not some new sterile mic! 1. Schoeps SuperCMIT (this was actually rented from Kortwich) serial number 0215 2. Schoeps CMIT (…
