Ok, not really a sound issue but when the director of the Oscar nominated doco 'Restrepo' is killed in a war I think it's a fair enough thing to cover here. http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/04/20/us-libya-misrata-journalists-idUSTRE73J5YX20110420?feedType=RSS&feedName=topNews&ca=rssvzw

I have been trying to get most recent posts to display at the top so we don't have to scroll through everything from the beginning, and I think the easiest thing I've found is to use the Recent Posts list at the bottom of the Forum Boards. Selecting the heading (which is in brackets) where the most recent post is will take you right to it. I think I will increase the number of Recent Posts in the list. I want this to be as easy and hassle free as possible. Regards, Jeff Wexler

John Blankenship came to Jacksonville this week. We were both working on Thursday night football but had some time to get to get to meet each other. That wouldn't happened without knowing of John from this board and I never would have thought that it takes 4 Pelican 1650 Vaults to wire 2 players, that is truly deep backup, and Whitney thinks I'm an Equipment hoarder ! Jeff, Thank you for investing your time in creating this space for Production Soundmixers to gather. Thank you Queen Jan for our Saturday am get togethers. Thank you Rich Van Dyke for your generations deep understanding of our business. Thank you Eric for showing me I have room to grow to be a r…

If anyone's going to Sundance stop by and check out Erica Dunton's "to.get.her." I served as location mixer and music playback. Its dark and a bit disturbing.

An interview w/ Tom Hidley who revolutionized audio control rooms with his Westlake Audio design, with the support of Record Plant founders Gary Kelgren and Chris Stone. A Westlake Audio room in LA would be synonymous with a Westlake room in London or Shanghai. A 2015 conversation between audio trailblazer Tom Hidley and Record Plant co-founder Chris Stone (moderated by Steve Harvey). Tom Hidley: You can’t really talk about Record Plant unless you talk about two main individuals. The first being Gary Kellgren, who was the visionary behind the package, and Chris Stone, who actually made it happen financially, following budget…

I got to hand it to Nikki Finke, she does not hold back speaking her mind. I also happen to agree with her. As an Academy member I think the decision stinks, along with Sherak being the point person in getting the Academy to now have 10 films vying for Best Picture, thus diluting the worthiness of the Academy Award. WHAAAAT? Tom Sherak New AMPAS Prez "What an AWFUL decision. Because Tom Sherak has been responsible of late for many of the worst decisions by the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences. Heck, this guy helped run Revolution Studios into the ground. Now he's going to do the same thing with AMPAS. What a lameass tool. What a moronic Board Of Governor…

Tom Short Retired today. Here is the news from The Hollywood Reporter: For the first time in 14 years, IATSE has changed its leadership, with president Thomas Short retiring and fifth vp Matthew Loeb unanimously voted in to take over the reins. Short announced his retirement, as expected, at the group's annual midsummer general executive board meeting in San Diego. "As hard as it is for me to believe that this time has come, I am now prepared to move on," Short said. "I am not leaving for political reasons or for health reasons but rather because I have learned that life is short and there is a great deal that I have yet to experience and enjoy." Although …

I've spent part of the day exploring Jeff's new site with varying results revealing me to be the weak link. It is frustrating to be shot down, I got to the Article button and then it slipped away. To quote Jimmy Buffet "it was so simple it plum evaded me." While I was doing this I was on a Tony Joe White binge, preferring the B&W TV bit where he lip sycs because to me that version is the real deal, baked in my brain in 1969. He is primarily known as a songwriter and I find I love his versions warts and all. The feel just drips off of it. I may have posted some of these before and I'll [probably post it again. TJ White is ground zero for Swamp …

Just read some shocking news, hard to believe it's true: Tony Scott, dead from apparent suicide. Director Tony Scott jumped off the Vincent Thomas bridge near Long Beach on Sunday and died from his injuries. He was 68. The Los Angeles coroner confirmed to TheWrap that Anthony David Scott of Beverly Hills jumped off the bridge and died on Sunday. That is the full name of the British-born "Top Gun" and "Crimson Tide" director, who has lived in Los Angeles for many years. The U.S. Coast Guard told The Daily Breeze that a suicide note was found inside Scott's black Toyota Prius, which was parked on one of the eastbound lanes of the bridge. Officials said tha…

Top 40 Chicago Words—Our Contributions to the English Language GRAHAM MEYER The moment of creation for a word often remains elusive. Typically (at least before the Internet age), a word gains popularity in local speech and then gets written down somewhere. When lexicographers start tracing lineage, the closest they can come to pinpointing a word’s birth is frequently its first appearance in print. Still, Chicago—City on the Make—has demonstrably had a hand in the genesis of many well-known words and phrases. Here are Chicago’s top 40 contributions to the English language, ranked by importance, the degree of Chicago influence, and overall Chicagoness, to coin a ter…

Top of the Stairs At DuArt, Thousands of Unclaimed Films By JOHN ANDERSON AUG. 20, 2014 Photo Steve Blakely, Richard Peña and Israel Ehrisman of IndieCollect. CreditNicole Bengiveno/The New York Times The Midtown Manhattan building that houses DuArt, the premiere hatchery of American independent cinema for about 70 years, is 12 stories high. The elevator only goes to the 11th floor. To reach DuArt’s rooms of wonder, you need to take the stairs. On the top floor, in one musty, institutional-green room after another, hundreds of film cans are stacked, floor to ceiling, each negative bearing the name of a long-gone production company, an obscure director or …

Looks like I'll be in Toronto 9/13-14 for the screening of "Rabbit Hole". I'm intensely interested to hear what they did with the sound since we were (because of weather pattern) 90% of the time, directly on the LaGuardia flight path. Have had good reports from the sound editor, producer and director, so I'm not 'concerned' but rather, curious, for future reference. Anybody want to get together for a drink after the 9p screening on the 13th, or breakfast on the 14th? Booked a room @ Comfort Hotel Downtown 15 Charles Street East Toronto, ON M4Y 1S1, Canada -- Jan
