I've been booked for an NBA gig in Brazil in a few weeks. Crew is mostly coming out of Newark so I'll be flying down solo and meeting with them there. I checked on a Carnet, but Brazil isn't participating yet. Anyone have any experience with traveling to Brazil with gear? Thanks, Matt

Well, it looks like it is official, T-Shirt and all, the Trew Empire expands, now providing a Trew Audio in Atlanta. Seems like a smart move, ALL the work is in Atlanta these days (and no, I'm NOT moving there, but I will attend the 2nd Annual ATL Sound Mixers Event).

I want to let our Atlanta customers know that, for the safety of our staff, Trew Audio in Atlanta is now closing for the day due to hurricane Irma. However, the phones will be answered and orders can still be made.

Trew Audio and Georgia's local sound pros have a lot to look forward to this summer as we finally open shop in Atlanta. The issue of sales tax was always the obstacle in the past, but Georgia production is too significant for Trew Audio to not have local presence. So be looking for a fully stocked Trew Audio store with sales, rental, repair, and custom cable shop soon. Staff interviews will start soon, so anyone interested in employment opportunities should send their info to jobs@trewaudio.com (please put "Atlanta" in the subject line). Glen Trew

The story is that I carried my nagra iv-stc, microphones and cables, walked for a mile, and then used it to record a chamber piece with me (viola) and pianist and soprano (it took place in the atrium of the school and you could hear people walking around). The machine is so heavy, and the cargo bag, is not ergonomic at all. It resulted that when I arrived the place, I was really tired, and I had a very hard time to finish the performance. Luckily enough, the machine works well. And a short sound example, only got gain on volume: 001.wav

I was lucky enough to see this new Feature Documentary the other day. It's being screened as part of the London film Festival. It's a great watch, and I recommend anyone who reads this site to watch it if they can. A fascinating story of a real modern day genius, who is an inventor ,engineer, musician, scientist oddball. A man who's life revolves around sound, and who really enjoys himself. They're the kind of guys who warrant having a documentary made about them I think! You can see some of his pieces of art/instruments, for instance the Seistron(?), that converts seismic activity from around the world into midi, that then plays different rhythms on a massive structure…

Somebody in theTrump Tower either started thinking about what the debate mic issue really was... or maybe the Donald himself reads JWSound: “It wasn’t that the mike didn’t work,” Mr. Trump said, during comments about the difficulties he had faced during the debate. The problem, he said, was that the people operating the soundboard had been “oscillating” as he spoke, changing the levels of his voice. -- NY Times, http://nyti.ms/2dDJ92X This actually is consistent with what we've been saying here, particularly if an automixer was involved (how would the device try to cope with all his loud interruptions, and how quickly could it react so there wouldn't be roller-c…

"Pilot season is all over the map this year as the majors squeeze budgets and chase production incentive coin throughout the country and up north in Toronto and Vancouver. Of the 39 hourlong pilots and presentations that have been ordered by the Big Four and CW, at least 20 are skedded to shoot outside California's borders." http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118001296.html?categoryid=14&cs=1 RL

"These signs of life hardly represent a full-throated TV movie renaissance, but a minor rebound -- still about a quarter the volume of its peak years -- after longform programming was pretty much left for dead. That said, the form's creative ambitions, as well as its financial model, have clearly been altered. It's no accident the Caucus for Producers, Writers & Directors has subtitled a planned panel on the topic, "Movies of the week are alive and well ... but boy, how they have changed!" A revival of an older source of jobs for many of us is gaining momentum. Now if they can resolve that SAG problem, maybe better times ahead. http://www.variety.com/article/VR1…

From CNET News: "The city of Wilmington, N.C., and the surrounding county of New Hanover, N.C., are among the first communities to test wireless applications using TV white space technology. The city and county have partnered with TV Band Service and Spectrum Bridge to launch a new experimental network that uses white space spectrum to provide wireless connectivity to surveillance cameras and environmental sensors in a "smart city" deployment. TV white spaces are the unused TV broadcast channels made available by the recent transition from analog to digital TV. In 2008, the Federal Communications Commissionunanimously agreed to open up this unused broadcast TV …

http://cms.tvtechnology.com/europe/0104/gsma-calls-on-the-european-commission-to-adopt-vision-for--uhf-spectrum/272146 London — Spectrum-hungry cellular operators are not only found in the U.S. With American telecoms ready to extend their operations into the UHF band that was for decades the domain of television broadcasters, European telecoms don’t want to fall behind the capabilities of the Americans. An association of European telecom operators has requested that the European Commission examine the UHF spectrum above 470 MHz with an eye toward re-allocating large swaths of it for telecom (i.e., cellular) operations. Although the European Commission was alre…

If anyone has noticed slight changes, like in text color, etc., I have been playing around with some things just to improve the look and hopefully function of this sight. Please report to me if anything really crazy happens (reports on the "Show unread posts..." bug are still okay, but I really don't know what to do about that). Regards, Jeff Wexler

Live and learn, there are no minimum staffing requirements in the IA contract. The IA can sign a one off contract with anything the Producer wants in it.
