At the moment the referendum is very close, with LEAVE a bit ahead. What will this mean for UK soundies and makers of sound gear, do you think?

I am looking for some advice from anyone in the UK or who has relevant travel experience there. I am traveling as part of a 3 person crew with gear for 5 days later this month. Our producer has us flying in and out of London and taking trains to Cambridge and Liverpool and then back to London. This seems crazy to me. In the US one would rent a minivan for this kind of thing. Any thoughts? Also, Liverpool or Everton?

I have info about a Los Angeles-area job offer to replace an existing 2-man crew on an ultra-low budget IA feature with rates so low I will not quote them here. Seriously, these are despicable rates and the only reason to even consider such a job would be for the health and welfare hours. If anyone wants details, send me a private message. Laurence

Can anyone explain to me what Sharknado's production has done wrong. I'm out of the loop and would love to understand it. - Jesse

The general membership of the I.A.T.S.E. has voted to accept the new contract. I am posting the article from the L.A. Times here for those who do not have access to the news. The article is not entirely accurate regarding the objections raised by the locals to the proposed contract, but the statements attributed to the International President, Tom Short, are truly astounding. Hollywood Craft Workers OK Deal By Richard Verrier, Times Staff Writer March 10, 2006 Hollywood's craft workers overwhelmingly approved a new three-year contract Thursday that calls for modest wage and benefit increases. More than two-thirds of voting members endorsed the contract, which c…

Scott Farr asked me to share this with the group (why he hasn't posted it himself I will never know). I have not checked this out myself yet. I found that website gives a 10% discount off your monthly bill for union members. Please share with the group thanks http://www.unionplus.org/cell-phone-wireless/att-wireless Regards, Jeff Wexler

This from the mothership union in the US: The “reinvention of the “New GM has begun with the opening of a lithium-ion battery plant in Brownstown, Michigan, near Detroit. The event was remarkable not only because the Brownstown plant signals GM’s return to the production of an electric vehicle but also because, for the first time in about 30 years, GM has opened a non-union plant in the U.S. http://www.counterpunch.org/benchich02242010.html The US taxpayers are part owners of GM. This is an opportunity for Congress to insist that all new plants be union shops.

The situation today is that our unions are losing their clout with producers: http://www.variety.c...le/VR1118050899

The studio confirmed the move and released this statement: "Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment ceased pre-production of Cartel today. As much as we had hoped to begin filming this spring in Mexico City, the studio and its producing partners did not feel it was creatively ready to move forward under the timetable and budget we had established. We thank all of the filmmakers, cast and crew for their work during pre-production." http://www.deadline.com/2010/04/universal-cancels-josh-brolin-drama-cartel-five-weeks-before-production-start/

Here is a CES gadget that could be very helpful to charge our phones, (iPhones would need an adapter) anywhere. Again featured in Gizmodo: RCA Airnergy Charges Gadgets with Nothing But Wifi Signals. http://gizmodo.com/5444850/rca-airnergy-charges-gadgets-with-nothing-but-wifi-signals RL

I have completed a fairly major update to the site and there will be a few little glitches until it all gets sorted out. The most significant change has been to the post editor (where I am typing now). The BB codes, things like Bold, Italic, Link, etc., now seem to only display as you hover over the blank generic non-icon icons. This needs to be fixed and I am looking into it. UPDATE: fixed the Editor problem. All the BBcodes should now display properly.

After much consideration I have decided to not do the annual r.a.m.p.s./jwsound party at NAB this year. I am still very concerned about Covid and feel that NAB and the party specifically, could end up being a super-spreader event. For me personally, at my age and overall health, I should not be risking being involved in that sort of gathering. Hopefully by next year things will have really settled down and we will be able to gather again without any real worry. I apologize to those who were looking forward to NAB and the party.

A week or so ago I updated the core software that runs this site --- everything went smoothly, there have been quite a few changes "under the hood" as they say, performance improvements and stability. Like so many other updates, there were consequences unforeseen --- the long running theme and customizations got corrupted and there were some incompatibilities. What you have been seeing the last few days is the result of cobbling together a theme that works while I have been doing a total redesign of the site. Quite soon I will be changing everyone over to the new theme. Anyone experiencing any difficulties, please let me know using the Contact Us form, a Private Messa…

Update is complete now on the IP.Board core software that runs this forum. I will be testing what is working and what is possibly broken by this update.

I upgraded the SMF software that powers this site and the upgrade includes quite a few security enhancements and bug fixes. Please let me know if anyone encounters any difficulties. The upgrade also introduced some social networking Share buttons that appear above topic posts but I am not sure exactly how they operate and I haven't personally tried them yet. Regards, Jeff Wexler

I have increased the capacity of the upload/file folder on the server so we should be back in business. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties uploading images. Again, In will take the opportunity to promote CinemaSound where the the uploading routines work very well and support images, video, audio and so forth, and in what I consider a much more elegant manner than this forum. - Jeff Wexler

I have been experimenting with a photo routine that provides easy uploading using the links in the sidebar: Gallery of Sound Carts and Show Me Your Bag. Just a short time ago, someone uploaded some photos (pictured below) and I want to try and get things working nicely for these galleries. It is difficult for me to determine how these things work because I am the administrator of all these things so I don't know how it works specifically for members. After an upload (which should be easy), I am notified to approve the image and then it appears. The problem is that I would love to have the person that uploads it be able to identify themselves, the image and what it sh…

Just so that all know, UPS arbitrarily assesed an extra "hadling fee" on a Pelican 1600 shipper that I sent out because it wasn't in a cardboard box. FedEx will accept these cases as-is understanding that an ATA approved shipping case doesn't need any carboard around it. Stupid UPS!
