Remember Auratone speakers? During the 70's & early 80's they were a must have item in a recording studio. They were used to simulate what a mix would sound like in the real world. A friend of mine was clearing out a closet and found a set of them. He was about to toss them when he decided to do an ebay search and found sets were going for $600. I remember them costing $70 a pair. Amazing.

Governor Snyder of Michigan announced the F2012 State Budget on Thursday and it includes the elimination of the Film Credit. Despite the claims from the Film Credit supporters that it creates jobs. "A September 2010 Senate Fiscal Agency report, however, found Michigan paid nearly twice as much money in incentives as the industry brought to the state in a two-year period. The state spent $137.5 million to generate $80.6 million in revenue, and the efforts cost taxpayers more than $190,000 to create a single full-time job." http://detnews.com/article/20110218/POLITICS02/102180366/Michigan-would-go-from-Hollywood-star-to-bit-player-under-Snyder-s-budget#ixzz1EKuRspUK

Hi, Amidst the chatter and clatter of what to do when the door closes on the 600MHz band. Here's a reasoned response. Now for all of you still using 700 MHz.......well........you know. http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/site/16505e589e0be6c8/index.html Everyone's situation may be different. How do you see this situation and what's your strategy? Regards, Ty Ford

I saw today a post about fake Sennheiser MKH416, and just for sure checked my MKH 8060, Which was also bought from Ebay (not from China, but from Polen). a little bit shocked, I'm even not sure if it's a real one or a fake. it looks different compare to the picture on Sennheiser's web. As you may see on the pic, there is no Logo and model number on the Mic and on pre-amp, which i could see on every pic from sennheiser's web, there should be logo and model number on the mic. After discover this, i did a test record immediately with my Nomad and did a comparison with some MKH-8060 review on YouTube, It's really hard to tell if it's real or a fake one, because i have ne…

From AP this morning: No more place where you could get emergency resistors and badly made XLRs on a Sunday afternoon? Of course, they haven't really cared about parts for a long time. And I'm sure they found it harder and harder to hire kids who even knew what a resistor is. But I've got fond memories of sending my wife out to pick up a list of parts around the corner (while I stayed home packing the rest of my kit), so I could quickly solder the pad / mute / phantom supply / whatever that I'd need for the gig. On the other hand: So at least there still will be a few places where they don't have that particular resistor or XLR in stock...

Lee had a stroke on Sunday. I'm at a total loss right now. I just wanted those folks who know Lee to be aware. I used to rent sound gear from Lee. Best thing to ever happen to me was meeting Lee. He used to rent me quality gear at a price I could afford. He gave me great advice, he was one of the few true friends I have here in Los Angeles.

Just wanted to invite any mixers or others interested in sound in the Texas, Oklahoma or West Louisiana areas out to our 3rd Annual Lone Star Mixer Mixer this weekend in Dallas. We at Vandelay Sound Exports are hosting it at a local brewery, Texas Ale Project, and our friends at Gotham Sound are sponsoring it. We have lots of great giveaways and demo gear. Reps from Orca, Zaxcom, Lectrosonics and Sound Devices will be in attendance to show you the ins and outs of their products. If you're available, you don't really have an excuse to not come hang out with your compadres. What: Social event for sound mixers and others interested in sound for television and film …

Anyone here who is a r.a.m.p.s. newsgroup participant is painfully aware of the conflicts and controversy that seem to plague that group with regards to participation by equipment manufacturers, dealers and anyone else who could be viewed as having the wrong agenda for our "pure" newsgroup. I have my own personal feelings about all of this but I would like some feedback from members here regarding whether equipment companies (and possibly dealers) should be welcome in this group. None of those people have posted here, yet, but I am considering putting up a section, a board, specifically to invite the participation of equipment companies, vendors and dealers. This would no…

I know this is a sensitive issue for some but a good friend of mine who is presently doing documentary-style work with the Cousteau group needs some guidlines on what mixers are getting paid and what the basic equipment package is going for. My friend had to retire from the regular union boomwork he had done for over 15 years (due to back injuries and a double hip replacement) but has now returned to do some mixing jobs without benefit of a union contract scale wage. The work, however, is what Gary loves to do, explorations, oceanographic adventures and so forth. If anyone here could put forth some numbers it would be greatly appreciated. Maybe just a range of pay per…

Hello All This primarily concerns UK based recordists (or others on channel 38, 606.5-613.500MHz) just had a fascinating chat with Kish Patel, MD of Audio Ltd, who's radio mics many (most?) of us use. He tells me that Audio Ltd found that the Sound Devices 788T emits RF, via input and output cables, which cause interference with (and decreased range to) our 2040 radio kit, and for that matter any other radio mics tuned to certain frequencies. The precise physics I'll leave to him to explain, but suffice it to say, they have produced the following list of frequencies which the SD788T emits in CH38/39/40. Simply put, our audio is at higher risk to 'hits'…

I would like to get into the sound for picture business doing documentary/film/TV work and ENG work as a Sound Recordist and Boom Operator. I've been a sound engineer for 11 years in New York City mostly mixing sound for galas and corporate events. I have a bachelor's degree in recording arts and music production. I have a great set of ears and great personality. How can I get into this business? Who do I call? Where do I go? What should I look for? Where should I start?

"Skip Lievsay is one of the most talented men in Hollywood. He has created audioscapes for Martin Scorsese and is the only ( Post ) sound man the Coen brothers go to. But the key to this work is more than clever effects, it is understanding the human mind" ********************* He’s not about sound by the pound.” Jonathan Demme, who first worked with Lievsay on The Silence of the Lambs, put it more concisely: “He’s a genius.” http://www.theguardian.com/film/2015/jul/22/rain-is-sizzling-bacon-cars-lions-roaring-art-of-sound-in-movies

Background to May Day: In 1884, unions declared that eight hours would constitute a legal day’s work from and after May 1, 1886. When workers went on strike at a factory in Chicago on May 3, 1886, police fired into the peacefully assembled crowd, killing four and wounding many others. The workers movement called for a mass rally the next day in Haymarket Square to protest this brutality. The rally proceeded peacefully until the end when 180 police officers entered the square and ordered the crowd to disperse. At that point, someone threw a bomb, killing one police officer and wounding 70 others. The police responded by firing into the crowd, killing one and injuring many …
