sure, the uncertain SAG situation is affecting many of us, and we would like to have the SAG contract situations resolved, but that doesn't make it all trivial. there is plenty of blame to spread all around; kiik at the terrible IATSE contract being shoved down our throats! You figure that if IATSE gives in and takes a sh#tty contract, so should SAG?? even after all the internal shake-up's, the SAG BOD voted pretty decisively not to accept the AMPTP's LBFO. I doubt there is enough popular support for a strike authorization, but there is a lot of support for a better deal. in threads about the IATSE contract, there are a lot of folks urging "NO" votes and demanding a…

On Sunday Oct. 11, the documentary, "Les Paul-Chasing Sound", will be screened at the AES Convention in NYC at 4:30pm. The director, John Paulson, and the soundguy, me, will be there to chat about all the wonderful times we had with Les over the years. Hope to see JW members at this event, where deep secrets of documentary sound will be revealed. Link to event: http://www.aes.org/events/127/specialevents/session.cfm?ID=2173 Ciao, Sully

Smithsonian/Folkways bought Chris Strachwitz's Arhoolie Records. I personally think this is great, and means that all those amazing Arhoolie albums will still be avail in some form after Strachwitz shuffles off (he's in his '80s). This is great approbation for a life's work preserving our musical heritage, well-deserved. They ought to give Chris Strachwitz one of those Presidential medal things for all he's done.

Seems there will be a respite until 2031 in Region 1 at least (Europe, Africa, Middle East and others). The 470 - 694 MHz retains broadcast as a primary user, keeps PMSE (program making and special events, wireless microphones and similar applications in regulatory-speak) as secondary, and while some countries might authorize some mobile activity it would be on a secondary basis if at all. One of the key points of the opinions supporting broadcast and PMSE was regulatory stability, and it seems the next review is scheduled for 2031. So, some peace of mind for now I guess. EBU seems to be happy. https://tech.ebu.ch/news/2023/12/ebu-…

A less sanguine look at the Variety story on the possible SAG/AMPTP break through from Jonathan Handel's "Digital Media Law" SAG and the Studios: The Next Roadblocks http://digitalmedialaw.blogspot.com/2009/04/sag-and-studios-next-roadblocks.html RL Note: I had to correct my own words re: "sanguine" from "more sanguine" to "less". Sanguine means "cheerfully optimistic", which Handel's post is not.

Hello everyone, My name is Thijs and I'm currently studying a film school in the Netherlands called Mediacollege. My dreams are to study sound on the Film academy in Amsterdam but i have to finish my last year here. After the summer i am allowed to do internships in other countries and my question was: How does that generally work. if there are people with experience on here. Ive got a lot of set expierience by doing a dutch TV series and a lot of student film sets, But i still want to expand my expertise and work half a year with a professional for my internship next school year. Any tips would be helpfull! and i love to hear your own experiences with interns…

I've decided to make two of my apps: Open Callsheet and Timecard Buddy completely free to use until December. Both of them are meant to cut down on paper use, so maybe they'll play a small part in keeping people safe. opencallsheet.com timecardbuddy.com Video demonstrations: OpenCS - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3NosM6ZO3I TCBuddy - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxkxMsfPSAU (My apologies for excluding those outside of the US. These apps are designed specifically for film production members in the US and Canada)

Good day folks, I'm currently working on a F1 Doco about the legendary driver Ayrton Senna and I would greatly appreciate the groups help. We need to know if there is anyone who has any quality archive recordings of INTERIOR F1 cars, preferably 1988 Honda engined Mclaren with a view to possibly being used to add dramatic impact to driving sequences in the film. I was recently allowed the great privalige of recording his original 1988 MP4/4 at Silverstone circuit recently I managed to get some great surround FX but sadly as they were protecting the car for the Goodwood Historic Festival of Speed this weekend we only got a few blasts (3 gears) up and down a sho…

http://www.crainsnewyork.com/article/20090330/FREE/903309977 The stalled film and television tax incentive program received a $350 million cash infusion in the new state budget to keep it going for another year. But the stop-gap measure fell short of industry expectations, and could jeopardize New York’s lucrative television business. The new funding will help keep most of the shows that are already produced here, like Ugly Betty and 30 Rock, at least for another year. But the program’s uncertainty in the future is sure to scare away new series, which are budgeted for multi-year runs. “This is very disappointing to us,â€ said Alan Suna, president of Silver…

" to consider what the leadership of this union has wrought upon this business. " which union are you referring to?? The IATSE has given us away in "New Media", and "New Media" is probably going to rule, even episodic TV will qualify, when they preview the shows online before the air date/time! SAG is fighting fiercely for some better terms for "New Media"...
