I have been experimenting with a photo routine that provides easy uploading using the links in the sidebar: Gallery of Sound Carts and Show Me Your Bag. Just a short time ago, someone uploaded some photos (pictured below) and I want to try and get things working nicely for these galleries. It is difficult for me to determine how these things work because I am the administrator of all these things so I don't know how it works specifically for members. After an upload (which should be easy), I am notified to approve the image and then it appears. The problem is that I would love to have the person that uploads it be able to identify themselves, the image and what it sh…

Hello, I am working on a travel show that has me going all over the country only spending a day or two in one area. I am using four channels of WisyCom (470 - 640) wireless for talent, two Sennheiser G3 as hops (mono to two cameras), and Comtek 216's. With all of this wireless, I am trying to find the best practice to coordinate frequencies in multiple locations quickly and efficiently. For the first week out it was a lot of receiver scanning in local hotels the night before the shoot and adjusting accordingly on location the next day but I'm sure that I am not doing the right thing. Any advice that anyone could give me would be hugely appreciated. This amo…

http://cms.tvtechnology.com/europe/0104/gsma-calls-on-the-european-commission-to-adopt-vision-for--uhf-spectrum/272146 London — Spectrum-hungry cellular operators are not only found in the U.S. With American telecoms ready to extend their operations into the UHF band that was for decades the domain of television broadcasters, European telecoms don’t want to fall behind the capabilities of the Americans. An association of European telecom operators has requested that the European Commission examine the UHF spectrum above 470 MHz with an eye toward re-allocating large swaths of it for telecom (i.e., cellular) operations. Although the European Commission was alre…

Both Variety and The Hollywood Reporter says that Walt's memorial is at Forest Lawn today, Sept 6th at 12:30, but when I do a search on Forest Lawns website they have no info of it. Can someone confirm that it's still today at Forest Lawn? Thanks Andy

Hey guys. Be safe out there. While some of us have the luxury of production providing setwatch on some jobs we all need to be vigilant when working in questionable locations. I've been on a few low budget jobs in South LA but even with security I was always keeping an eye out for potential thieves. http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2014/09/04/oakland-film-crew-describes-terrifying-armed-robbery-on-the-set/

Some additional feedback given to the FCC regarding the impacts of the spectrum auction in the 600mhz block... And Sennheiser Electronic Corporation, a wireless mic manufacturer, is drawing support for its proposal for the cost of replacing wireless mics to fall to companies that win spectrum in the incentive auction. FCC staff members have recommended auctioning the two channels currently reserved for wireless mics, and a senior FCC official said the staff is also proposing allowing licensed use of wireless microphones by broadcasters in the duplex gap. “I fully agree with Sennheiser's proposal for auction winners to compensate wireless mic owners for any equipment …

This is very important to all of us who have made California our home (and for some of us California is our home state) and for the State which used to be the movie capital of the world. As many know, I am NOT in favor of ANY of the incentive programs that subsidize one of the most profitable industries in the world (and the industry that we have relied on for employment for all these years, those of us with really long careers), but it looks as if it is the only way that we can have jobs come back to our state. ***** Governor Brown agrees to sign AB-1839 ******* This morning Governor Brown has agreed to sign AB-1839 with a annual budget of 330 million for 5 years. N…

It was 17 years ago today, that I lost a friend and Assistant Cameraman, Brent Lon Hershman. "Brent's Rule" was the rallying cry for "12 On, 12 Off". 17 very long years later, we are still waiting. Miss you Brent.

- from New York Times article For 50 years, NFL Films has built its reputation by immersing viewers in a cinematic experience unlike watching games on television. Spiraling footballs, muddy linemen battling at the line of scrimmage, wired coaches, leaping receptions and vapor rising from bald heads looked like Hollywood movies, especially when augmented with martial music and over-the-top narration by baritone voices. - - - - - - - ... But that era is about to end: starting this season, NFL Films will shoot all regular-season and postseason games with digital video cameras. “This is revolutionary,” said Howard Katz, the chief operating officer of NFL Fil…

Top of the Stairs At DuArt, Thousands of Unclaimed Films By JOHN ANDERSON AUG. 20, 2014 Photo Steve Blakely, Richard Peña and Israel Ehrisman of IndieCollect. CreditNicole Bengiveno/The New York Times The Midtown Manhattan building that houses DuArt, the premiere hatchery of American independent cinema for about 70 years, is 12 stories high. The elevator only goes to the 11th floor. To reach DuArt’s rooms of wonder, you need to take the stairs. On the top floor, in one musty, institutional-green room after another, hundreds of film cans are stacked, floor to ceiling, each negative bearing the name of a long-gone production company, an obscure director or …

After a three year semi retirement/hiatus/part time freelance situation I'm back mixing a series for NBC/ITV. I cannot believe how much has changed in TV since I left CSI. The whole directing style, camera use and production expectations of the sound crew has been quite the education for me and I gotta give props to my crew, Kevin Santy and Anna Mayer ( Charlie Wilborn's daughter) for bringing me up to date and getting my head out of the film sand and into the digital media stratosphere. They have enlightened me and expanded my understanding of the "new" approach to sound mixing, but thankfully the "old' way of using your ears and mixing sound to picture hasn't changed. I…

About to start a show for HBO. Haven't seen the equipment rental agreement yet, but the DIT tells me that, essentially, HBO will not cover insurance for owner-operator equipment. Anybody have this experience?

Mr. Pardo was 96; he joined NBC before I was even born! " He began his announcing career at NBC Radio as a war reporter during World War II and remained at the network his entire life.... A member of the Television Academy Hall of Fame, he and Bob Hope are the only people ever awarded a lifetime contract at NBC. He finally retired from NBC in 2004 and considered retiring from SNL too, but Michaels successfully kept him on the show until last season’s finale. Hello, I'm looking for a ride up to the rally in Sacramento on Wednesday. Most people are flying because the rally starts around 10:30 and it is a 5 hour drive. But if you have made plans to drive up and back for whatever reason, and you have space for 1 more please let me know. I can drive, contribute to gas and sing along to a wide variety of music-- or not. Jay 818-916-2958

Here is a possible solution to those looking for the discontinued and very popular Sennheiser HMD 25's. With thanks to Ryan Coomer of Trew Audio Los Angeles. Sennheiser is now only selling newer designs, but those headsets do not have the same acoustic dynamics of the HD 25's rated from 16 - 22,000Hz. I like my HD 25's and just wanted to add a microphone to accomplish my requirements. The solution was AntLion Audio and their ModMic. http://www.modmic.com/ I got the ModMic 2.3 ($33.95) but they will begin selling newer versions 3.0 and 4.0. They are electret microphones and the solution to power it was the Ambient EMP3.5 48V Electret Adapter. The b…
