I am posting this in the Mac section because it is Mac only software. For those who already have a good, easy way to re-size images (for posting here on this Group, for example) this will be of no interest. For those Mac users who have been looking for a really good software utility, I like Easy Crop a lot. You can set whatever size you want (really good for those of you who are trying to post images right out of your camera) and also limit the FILE size. I use this all the time for managing image files for the web, for emailing, etc. http://www.yellowmug.com/easycrop/ Regards, Jeff Wexler

This may have been mentioned before but a new version is out. I do not have any personal experience with this software but it appears to have some interesting functions (including in this new version, better handling of metadata and so forth). http://monkey-tools.com/soundgrinder/ Regards, Jeff Wexler

I wanted to know how others use, transfer and store their data. I've seen posts here and there about this, but I didn't find a thread specifically about it. There's different options to consider here and with the ingenuity in the members of this forum, I'd be interested to hear your solutions, as this is an integral part of our work. If there's one thing I've learned, it's to back-up. Then back-up. Then back-up again. I have a 10 year-old cheap external hard drive that still works, and passes tests. I've also had internal 3.5 drives from reputable manufacturers completely fry on me within 1 year of purchase. With a steadily increasing amount of …

This company is offering a mount for the Mac Mini, designed to mount the computer on the back of an LCD monitor but could also benefit those who want to provide a solid and secure mount for cart use. http://www.sonnettech.com/product/maccuffmini.html Regards, Jeff Wexler

Just a heads up..... It seems like quite a few of us host personal/resume sites on mac.com accounts, so you should all know they will be shut down in June 2012. With iCould becoming a free service in the Fall, they are phasing out MobileMe/iTools/whatever. iWeb won't be updated again, and the one click updating will be gone. In theory the current iWeb should keep running under 10.7, but you would need host it elsewhere. Kind of a bummer! I haven't figured out what I'm going to do yet. I have done hand coded HTML sites, PHP etc but iWeb is so easy to make a clean site that's easy to update. It doesn't get a lot of traffic, but the traffic it does get is often…

All the analysts are focusing on the iPhone 3G as if it is just ONE PRODUCT from Apple. It reminds me of all the discussions, usually riddled with inaccurate figures, about Apple's real success is the iPod, or it's all about the hardware, or there is no money to be made with an Operating System, etc., etc. The undeniable fact is that Apple, Inc. is hugely successful in whatever they do, period. There have been very few mis-steps in the last 10 years and to think, as some analysts have said, that Apple has blown it this time by changing the business model with the iPhone, just do not see the bigger picture. There is a good article that focuses on the new Mobile Me servi…

" Most cameras and video recorders don't instantly attach location data (or geographic coordinates) to photos and videos. But some smartphones, such as the iPhone, automatically embed the user's latitude and longitude in each photo's metadata. It's possible to disable the function, but the researchers said many people don't even realize that they might need to. ... computer security experts in Massachusetts, said they were able to uncover location information in photos uploaded by William Shatner, M.C. Hammer, Weird Al Yankovic, Arnold Schwarzenegger and others. ...most people don't even understand that they are posting this information online... do average people reall…

Current figures for Apple's rise in the sale of music worldwide is truly amazing. The following article appeared in Macworld online: "Apple’s iTunes Store is continuing its rise in popularity as it moves up the list of the most popular places for consumers to purchase music. A recent report from market research firm NPD places iTunes in third place among all music retailers. iTunes rise is even more dramatic when you consider that the report does not just consider online retailers, rather it looks at all retailers including traditional brick and mortar stores. In third place iTunes captured a 9.8 percent share of total music sales, ahead of Amazon, Target, Bord…

So in 2009 I switched both the family computer and my laptop to Mac's. All is well but, I really miss Excell, Word and Outlook at home. I understand that Office for Mac 2011, to be released in October, will finally have Outlook available on it and I am very tempted to go for the best of both worlds with Microsoft Office and my Mac. Does anyone have experience with Office for Mac and, any comments about it? Thanks

Hi guys, My beloved TiG4 550 died recently, I bought a MB Pro 2.2 to replace it, all went well in the transition, except Virtual PC wont work on the new Mac... Bought the latest (v3.0) Parallels... I can't get it to Install Win 98SE, or Win95 for that matter (I know W98 is ancient, but that's what I need to run my accounts software). Anybody out there with experience of this? (I have read on some blogs that Parallels 3.0 is basically a croc, as Bootcamp does not support W98, any alternatives?). I was looking forward to using drag & drop between the two platforms, BW Pro etc. but I really need to Invoice my clients, keep track of possible deadbeats & do my taxes.…

Hi All, I've been looking around to see what's currently available in external Thunderbolt hard drives. I don't see much in the affordable category. I did spot this Thunderbolt hard drive Dock which might pair well with a Solid State Drive: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/985459-REG/highpoint_5212_2_bay_thunderbolt_10gb_s_storage.html I have a similar Vantec dock with firewire which was 1/4 the price and it's served me well. Is anyone using a Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt adaptor and getting good results? When you do use an adaptor do you get Thunderbolt speeds? Thanks for your tips and keep well! Cheers, Dave

I just got a (used) Macbook 2G Intel Core Duo and I'm trying to get LecNet2 to work properly. The Windows / Parallels combo works great (makes me wonder why anyone would buy a PeeCee, but I digress). When I download and install the LecNet2 software, it runs, but won't see the Venue. Parallels sees the "VR" in the USB selection, but not the LecNet software. I've re-installed everything. I'm usually pretty good at figuring this stuff out eventually, but this one has me stumped. I've installed version 4 and then version 5 Parellels I've installed both Windowz XP and then Windowz 7 Latest version of LecNet2 from the Lectro D/L site. Parallels sees the Venue. Ideas…

Ok so I know this has been addressed in lesser forms but I am trying to put together a master list. I have finally come off the fence and become a pad person or rather purchased a couple of iPads for use at home and work. I am looking to populate mine with the relevant apps for sound and camera problem is for every good one there are several that just don't quite work. so what should I look at for sound and camera work. I'm talking slate, logging, equipment inventory, working up quotes, anything else you can think of? Also apps that talk to each other if there are any, a dp had one last year for his dslr slate that if I had my own iPad would have linked to my…

warning: a plug from an enthusiastic user! I have been using WiMAX Internet while in LAS for over a year. First there was Cricket, and then came Clear. In LAS they seem to be fighting it out in every strip mall cell phone store, and on the sides of every bus and/or taxi. What is it? It is WiFi on steroids, basically using the 4G (and 3G) cell phone networks for Internet access. Similar tp what is also available on cards from the Cell Phone companies --for a higher price and , with data limits, like "included minutes" on a cell phone, and excess charges. Cricket and Clear offer unlimited use, 24/7, for a flat fee, and the speed is excellent. Until recently there…

Anyone that knows me well understands that I am a complete apple freak. However, today I ran into a little issue that made me look like a fool on my job. Just so everyone knows, when you flip the "silent" switch on the side of an iPhone, it will mute the phone. However, it does NOT mute SIRI. You must manually turn her down. I had my phone in my back pocket on what I thought was 100% silent mode. I guess my butt cheek activated siri, and it started talking to me saying I don't understand. Just letting everyone know so it doesn't happen to you.

I was upset by Apple dropping Firewire in the new aluminum MacBook since many of us had relied on prior MacBooks and iBooks for our work. What I only just realized is that Apple's currently shipping least expensive portable, the so-called White MacBook, still has Firewire. Even though this is the lowest model going (and probably will be E O L sometime soon), for $900. you can get a pretty decent portable for Boomrecorder, Metacorder, etc. excerpt from MacWorld: "Externally identical to the last white MacBook, the new 2GHz model has the same number of peripheral connections (a pair of USB 2.0 ports and a single FireWire 400 port) and keeps the same mini-DVI port, as opp…

Sorry as I find myself occasionally reminiscing over this or that old piece of computerware this website reminds me of all the pieces of silicon that have passed through my hands. http://www.oldcomputers.net/ None of it is as sexy as the '68 GTO I let go before I knew any better, but...... Has anyone used lockstep by figure 53 to slave the pt transport to Ltc? How reliable was it? Would it ever glitch and cause transport errors? I'm considering it as one possible solution, and I thought I'd get some user feedback before I buy it and try it out . Thanks for your thoughts.

I’m installing a Mac Mini into my cart, and am now faced with the question of monitors. I have dual 7” Marshall video monitors for my camera feeds, but now I need something for the Mac. Currently I am pondering which kind of monitor to be using, how to mount it, and if possible, leave it hooked up but maybe foldable, so that I don’t have to install it every time I want to use it. My current setup has all the “guts” of my cart in a rack mount case. Please share photos, links, and useful information. Thank you!

O.K. iOS users, don't be hatin' on me, but... I'm curious if any Android users out there have any favorite tools/apps for Android based smartphones. Criteria: anywhere between "really useful" to "just fun" Here are a couple to get things started: - Sound Report Writer (Tyler Faison) - Speedy Spectrum Analyzer (Electron Chaos)
